The lead singer for New Birth is Leslie Wilson. He is a beast of a singer. They have another jam called "Been Such A Long Time". They took this old song to soulville the vocals and the arrangement is just on point.
This is not a old country song, and the arrangement is exactly the same as the original (the only difference is the extension of the song on the end). Donnie Gerard's original vocal is soulful and smooth, great voice. The original is considered by many to the beginning (first) power ballad.
@@shottut You are correct the song was originally recorded by the Skylark. The first time I heard it was by a country artist and I fell in love with New Birth's version. My bad
70's music was the TRUTH. So much passion, so much talent, great bands, great vocalists, great perfomances, and live music was off the charts. It is without question once of the best eras for music ever, if not THE best!
New Birth was the TRUTH! Fronted by the great Leslie Wilson! Great vocals and unmatched musicianship! They SURELY don't make music like this anymore! Try their remake of the Bobby Womack classic "Can You Understand It"!
Yeah, Jamie is aware of the "classic" jams of the past!...New Birth also have a very "funky/soulful" track titled: "I Can Understand It" that's ("a real biggon that you gon' be diggin'"), as Soul Train host "Don Cornelius" would say! It's 6:23 seconds of upbeat soul to get your blood pumpin'!....Good reaction!
I'm 61 baby... That man could have lied, cheated , stayed out all night... Along with the " I'm sorry, bro put this song on, 😮 girrrlll,,, instant baby..😂😂

Oh Ashley...Ashley you have no idea how much we got down back in the day!😂😂 We'd party have the night away with songs like this. Got a couple of The New Birth albums along with many others from back then and still enjoy them. Check out their song I Can Understand It. You'll love it! Another group from back then you'll love is The Ohio Players. Songs like Skin Tight, Love Rollercoaster, Sweet Sticky Thing, Heaven Must be Like This, and Fire. Really enjoying you enjoying all this old school music🤗

She thought she was ready for dat GROWN FOLKS SHHT...but, of course...she was NOT. SOOOOOO many babies was made from this song. The absolute BEST music was made from 1970 to 1988...no disrespect to this present generation. New Birth was pure soul music at its FINEST...ya dig ?? 💎💎💎💎💎💎
"ya dig" go on with your bad self, jive turkey! My goodness in my mid 60's now, I feel so honored to have experienced that era. Retired to the tropics now but every morning I work out in my backyard while singing along with the music of my youth.
Great group of singers and musicians! Had the pleasure of hanging out with the Wilson brothers (Leslie and Melvin) and Londee after their gig in ‘74. The Album It’s Been A Long Time is one of my fav.
I first heard this song...the original version, by a group called 'Skylark' David Fosters group. The lead singer was Donnie Jerrard (sp?) out of Canada. The Ojays thought that he was a white dude trying to sound black and they hated it. So more Black groups did a remake adding 'more' soul to make it a bigger hit than what it was. But I for one just LOVED the black guy Donnie's from Skylarks version more.
Welcome to my childhood. I was born in 85, but learned what this was as early as i could remember. This song is straight 🔥. The INSTRUMENTS! The VOCALS ❤❤❤❤
Same here. I was born in 83 and was raised by music from the 60's & 70's from parents, aunts, and uncles. Hip-Hop played a big part of my childhood too but Soul/R&B holds a special place in my heart.
Love this song then and Love it even more today 💗 It reminds me of my beautiful Mother who has since passed on.😢😢 She had one of the most genuine souls that God has ever create🙏🏽 Nothing but beautiful thoughts of her when I listen too song as she was my Flower 🌹🌹
This one was so “dangerous”, it was in the stack of albums that we kids weren’t allowed to listen to. But we heard it anyway, because every time her girlfriends came over, they played it!
I remember watching soul train back in the 70s. I was a very young child, but I didn't realize what I had back then in that music. The times, and music has changed tremendously, and most of my loved ones from then had either died or are nolonger in my life anymore. But part of me really misses those more simpler days. My home i had,my family i had, the music i loved, ...part of me really misses them all. Whatever.

Hi Ash. Would love to see your reaction to the original version of Wildflower. It was written by Doug Edwards in 1972. Doug was a Canadian musician, composer and multi-instrumentalist best known for co-creating the hit song "Wildflower" for the pop/rock band Skylark that he was a member of. New Birth's rendition features enhancements to the original melody, including a more instrumentally complex introduction, later directly sampled in Jamie Foxx's hit song "Unpredictable," and a spoken monologue from lead singer Leslie Wilson during the bridge.
I attended Fla A and M in.Tallahassee, saw them there the got off stage band stop playing and dude just eas blowing no music everybody in the gym went wild, good show
