Moral of the story, when you are in the Philippines always make sure you are aware of where the closest good private hospital is to where you are staying. That way in an emergency you can just go directly to a good hospital or medical centre and not the local hospital that caters to the poor.
It's sad but this is the standard of healthcare that that the average Filipino gets.

Because of our age and medical history, we decided not to retire in the philippines. Although the philippines is one of the countries that sends nurses and other medically skilled workers around the globe and the philippines is left of underpaid nurses...sad but it's the truth.
    They are also understaffed.
Try to go to bigger hospital and well known hospital, you may have to pay more just to be sure.

That's not true. I have an excellent doctor at Manila Doctors Hospital. My last doctor was also excellent. I have been here a few years now and I have gotten better care than I did in the US and it is a much better price. The bottom line: It cheaper than the USA and the care is BETTER. my grandmother died in one of those family clinics they gave her sedatives when she was having aneurism then when we transferred her hours later to a bigger hospital in capitol medical hospital in quezon city it was already too late. the number 1, absolutely you can't do is put someone having aneurism attack is put them to sleep! she died at age 64 she wasn't that old i was just a kid she can still run and can even carry 25 kilos of rice which is what we always buy every month. i also got operated on one of those clinics and it healed bad because of bad stitching and got infected and my body have a high resistance from infections the only time in my life i got infected and i must've had more than 6 surgeries in my life and all of them are really invasive except that minor surgery from that clinic i actually had my 4th surgery last month which was a result of a motorcycle accident 2 years ago. never got infected i probably need atleast 3 to 4 months before i can walk both my legs suffered multiple fractures. it's hell on earth.

Living in Australia, having access to the best medical treatment you could ask for, that is one thing I worry about when it comes to travelling to or living in the Philippines. The plan was I live there with my Girl who is from Southern Leyte but I would rather be very close to a hospital that is properly equipped and has educated doctors. Man, what a worry.

We get good healthcare in Thailand in a rural area; I think one of the commentors also said this. Its not free though as we pay health insurance to the local government every year and it only covers so much (think of it as basic/emergency cover) and anything medically expensive you have to pay, which is fair. Like anywhere the health system needs to be funded properly and in Thailand there is government support, but its limited and you need to either have additional insurance or cover the costs yourself.

You seem fairly young and active! I would be willing to bet your experiencing bad case of indigestion and heartburn that can simulate heart attack symptoms. Also if you have any anxiety issues that can sometimes cause symptoms. I know this because I've gone through this for years. I went to hospital several times when i was younger with chest pains in left side and sometimes slight numbness in arm. Have had many tests done and I have always had bouts of anxiety but my diet was poor so i was dealing with acid reflux issues and indigestion often and those can all tie together. I'm not a doctor but any means so I would recommend being safe and getting further checked out. I'm just giving you my experience that can cause those same symptoms so maybe can help you out a little too ease mind a little and not think of the worst case scenario. Either way I hope you get better and try to eat more better foods and less spicy foods also. 😊

I was in Cabanatuan, getting a routine physical. In the "ER" room getting a EKG.. they rush in some guy who was in a motorcycle accident and throw him on the bed next to me. A doctor uses a hand pump over his face to induce oxogen and keep his heart moving (atleast chest up and down movement). The doctor looks at the guys family or friends and says who will pay the bill, is there any insurance? no response, so the doctor stops the hand pump and that was it.. guy was gone. If you get outside of Manila or Cebu, most of the clinics and small hospitals are just like that. My dad passed away in one of those small hospitals in malolos 2 years ago. I am sure you miss the great health care here in Thailand now.. One of my good friends is the senior Anesthesiologist at St. Lukes Makati there in the Philippines.

    St. Luke’s hospital BGC.
    4. medical city
This is in no particular order but we personally has been in Asian Hospital and me once in Makati Med for my leg X-ray when I fell from the stairs in my previous condo. This is the best to go to for whatever in the Philippines.

Tommy . You gotta lay off all the high salt high sugar stuff mate . Filipinos go to hospital with hypertension ( high salt) diabetes ( high sugar) and liver disease ( junk foods and high salt and msg ) . Kidney disease is very high all over the country.
Hopefully you have your eye on all the food and stuff in Filipino salt diet .

Crikey. Vermin scuttling under the bed on top of their poor care. How the hell does a hospital run out of stocks??? As others have said it’s lucky Lay was with you.Take care of yourself young lad.
This should be a wake up call for all those guys who sing the praises of the Philippines. Generally the healthcare is below par.

To me Tom. That hospital was going to keep you in no matter what. I was admitted to a hospital in Mandaue back in June 2019 when i dislocated my left shoulder n the hospital room not that clean and soo close to the traffic. I had to travel from Camotes Island to Danao City Emergency hospital n transfer to the city. Lucky Liza n her parents and sister Edebeth come with me. Such a nightmare Tom n doctors put my shoulder back in following day but did more damage inside the shoulder. I was operated on last year in February.

    Hi Tom,
Very happy that you are okay now. I have worked in healthcare for over 30 years here in the US. I don’t think at your age it was your heart. With the low blood pressure I think you were dehydrated or had an illness from something you ate.?.?
I would get checked out and get a full physical and heart exam at a good facility. Better to be cautious. Every city has good and bad health care facilities. I would learn where the good ones are in any city I live in. That goes double if you are 60 years old or older. You don’t want to try to figure out what hospital is good or bad once you are sick. Know ahead of time.

Hello young shipmate Tom. Listen buddy get yourself to a 'good' hospital and get a full professional check-up ok. That is number one. It will be a little expensive, but your mind will rest a lot easier for it. If you have anything going on it is best to catch it early. Number two -- go to church and give thanks that you have Lay with you -- it seems like she really cares for you amigo. Get better young man. I have enjoyed and do enjoy watching your videos.

Healthcare quality can vary big time in the Philippine. Makati medical center is western standard for the most part, efforts should be made to find a good private hospital…Too many vloggers are show casing the best hospitals in the country, you experienced a middle of the road clinic. Far from the worst, the worst don’t have equipment…Your young for ischemia…smoking? History of bad habits may be catching up. It should be a wake up call.

Lay saved your life. Tom you are young and need to find out what is happening to your heart. I am planning a trip to the Philippines and know which hospital and insurance to purchase. I couldn't believe they didn't give you an EKG.
I am very happy you are going to another hospital. Your clips look like you are in storage room and not a hospital.
The new blood pressure devices go with your index finger inside a clip and goes on your hand. What a nightmare.
