    Very cool. Finally, a good use for all this AR stuff. It's an early version of the Star Trek universal translator.

      They probably just want to make the translator but don't want to sound too geeky

    As an international student living in a foreign language-speaking country, I really want this transcript feature for helping me know more precisely about the instructor's talking. Can't wait to see the VR glasses on the market.

    Pretty convenient that we didn't get a look at the lense as it was translating.

    How about subtitles for hard of hearing for a start, in the same language. That would be pretty helpful, full stop. Providing you don't decide to change what's said because you disagree or something.

      If I’m understanding this comment correctly, there was a person in the video that used ASL and was able to read English that popped up on the glasses. I’m sure it could be used with a similar purpose for people hard of hearing.

    These things are cool but I've been hearing this for years now. The world of AR/VR seems to always be the same utopias shifting a few more years once we get to the previously predicted timeline. Everything is always 'coming soon' or 'in the next couple of years'...... But I've been hearing this for a long time now.

    • @WindFireAllThatKindOfThing
      @WindFireAllThatKindOfThing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The reason why so many things that could have come out never do is precisely because of the attitude you are bringing to the table right now. And you're not alone.
      People today would rather have a thing they can complain about than a thing that helps them.
      Complaining is more entertaining. And that's all people chase anymore. Entertainment. By b*tching.

    • @leaper1981
      @leaper1981 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WindFireAllThatKindOfThing I'm sure that may be true if you weren't talking to someone with 3 VR HMD's lol. If I said I was going to give you a car next year would you not complain when it never arrived? That's how it feels to be in this world right now. I've literally spent about 3 years being told......."next year apple will release their HMD" My point is this doesn't excite me in anyway because especially with google they're great at showing products.........but even better at dropping them.

    • @WindFireAllThatKindOfThing
      @WindFireAllThatKindOfThing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@leaper1981 As am I. Q2, Index, and still got a closet full of old headsets from the DK1 to the OG rift and Q1.
      But that's the thing with your car analogy: every year, new models with new features come out, and no one whines about that.
      When newer versions of a headset come out, people who own the last one would _literally_ rather it didn't so they could feel (emphasis on the feelings, in this case upgrade jealousy) like _theirs_ is the top version rather than have new sh*t available for them to upgrade to.
      Not particularly germaine to Google watching Glass fizzle because A. The tech wasn't there yet, B. Pundits and consumers got more of a kick hating it than hoping it would be able to do cool things.
      I'm simply saying people are miserable asses who don't want things to succeed anymore..not when they could jump on a populist negativity bandwagon instead.

    • @leaper1981
      @leaper1981 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WindFireAllThatKindOfThing I agree, I hate that people don't want newer upgraded versions due to a lot of the reasons you described. I mentioned having HMD's so u knew I wasn't one of the many people kicking something they haven't even tried. I love VR & new tech in general, a lot of my frustration is a lack of impatience made worse by the fact that I'm left defending the medium to others & saying 'just wait and see..... It will get there' only to be left looking like an idiot as its progress is nowhere near the dreams I'm sold. I think anyone really into VR/AR knows this feeling. I've grown tired of the put downs that I don't bother mentioning these future things anymore.

      @@leaper1981 Yeah I knew, and I apologise for pointing the finger at you. That was undeserved and misdirected because I was just salty at the ne'er do wells who spend their efforts trying to make sure we can't have nice things because they get off on it.
