Tin ore mining changing the face of Ntungamo

Tucked away somewhere in a remote part of Ruhaama County in Ntungamo district are deposits of tin ore. Now, while local residents are making some money out of the mines, it seems their safety has been left to chance and even the district authorities are not keen on what goes on in the mines since they don’t get any proceeds from there.

👉 Tin is way more rare than most people assume it to be. Out of roughly 78 naturally occurring elements in the Earth's crust, tin is ranked #50 by abundance! It's actually less common than uranium, and significantly less common than copper(2.2 parts per million vs 60ppm in Earth's crust). Some say we may run out of tin in the near future. ☹️
