Best review on these two arms, super relevant and to the point - amazing how much there is to consider with just this one aspect of an audio setup.

Ok finally. THANK YOU! A sober and calm comparison , where the comparison is the overview of the arms, not a lengthy feature review then a quick crappy comparison that completely ignores the pain in the ass the Compass is in positioning and admitting to needing to add weight etc to get the darn thing to behave!!! (just got the Compass last night and now im looking in my storage room for any appropriate weights i can add, the Yeti X mic is still too light and it just wants to stay way too high!!.....)

While i had my Rode PodMic on the Blue Compass it snapped in half overnight. It was only the 7th day having it so I was surprised.

Great video! Had to buy both myself just before I found this video to learn the hard (and expensive) way that Elgato will work much better for me. You should continue making these reviews, I think you could do very well!

Hands down, this was one of the best reviews but you missed showing everyone the extension and the included adapters on the ElGato. Those are critical things. Why did you not mention that? Anyway, the Blue Compass is nice but is intended for someone who will position a microphone and never move it and using a brick as a microphone. ElGato is actually one of the best boom arms I've ever owned. Compared to the Rode PS1, it's just as good, if not better because it has the extension which he did not show. That is a real game changer. I own all three and got rid of the Blue Compass. The PS1 and Wave Arm are the best boom arms for the price and purpose. If you have the Rode SM7B, the Wave Arm is actually designed around it because neither the PS1 nor the Compass allow you to rotate the mic around the stem because of the XLR design. On the Wave Arm, it rotates freely 360 degrees. That is another important fact about it.

    Yup, I'm buying the Elgato
I have a Canon M50 and a Sigma Lens so I need an arm capable of hold the whole thing and allow me to move it freely and easy. I really appreciated your comparation but most important the Elgato limits and possibilities

Have you looked into the elgato arm system meant for cameras?

I originally bought the Blue Compass over a year ago now and using a lighter mic i could never get the arm to articulate at all. Recently upgraded to a rode psa1+ and wish i'd done that orginally. I personally wont be recommending the Blue Compass to anyone I know unless they have a ridiculously heavy mic.

What about the rode psa-1 + compared with elgato, which is better?

I have not had experience with this mic stand but I can say it looks like a big improvement over the non plus model. I unfortunately am getting out of the gear review game as my kids like to eat food lol. What I do know of the Rode products is that they are meant to go with their flagship mics, which are generally MUCH heavier microphones than mics like Wave mics and other USB condenser microphones. This may make it hard to keep a lighter mic down close to your face. For what its worth....I have no idea

Thank you so much for your review. I had serious problems with adjusting and positioning the Blue Compass. After watching your video, I immediately ordered the Wave and got a refund for the Compass.

The tighter you screw the thumb screws the more tension you apply to the joint. The looser the less tension.
The thumb screw isn't a clamping mechanism.
It won't stay because you maxed the tension out.

wrong. the tension screw (only one) is in the bottom near where it sits on the stand. the knobs are all friction screws. source: i bought one and it was so frustrating to use

40 year radio pro here. O C White. It's the standard for pros, and has been since the beginning of radio in the 1920s.. It's a couple hundred dollars, but I've never seen one fail, and I've worked with boom arms from OC White that were over 100 years old that worked perfectly and silently, and had never been maintained. It's one of the great design successes in American history, and 100+ year old OC white light fixtures are so hip they go for thousands of dollars. All of these other boom arms are bad copies with cheap parts -- which means that they don't last. O C White started making telegraph equipment, then work lights. Saying anything else is the best for professionals is either disingenuous, or pretty much shows other professionals, that the sayer isn't a professional.
