Layers of Meaning: It is Joy of Urdu’s honour to have eminent people such as Kamil Khan Mumtaz, architect, author, educationist, as an Advisor. In this very interesting brief talk, he had the following observations about the nature of storytelling, of language and communication, of sacred texts, and our bilingual book launched at Jashne Rekhta Dubai and Faiz Festival 2024.

An interesting aspect of our connection is that founder Zarminae’s journey to Joy of Urdu has had a number of significant moment discussed multiple times, but her journey to publishing began with the attempt to get her master’s thesis at @mit published as a monograph on Kamil Sahab’s work.

Nice talk. Urdu language is there because of Islam and Persian language/culture. It is just a Persianized & Islamized form of Hindi (or Hindavi) language, with some borrowings from Arabic.

This is a slightly reductive and simplistic opinion. Please do read more books and papers on the sociolinguistic history of Urdu to further understand.

Recently I read this paper by Prof. Tariq Rahman, which partially supports the claim that Urdu is the language of Indian or South Asian Islam.
'Urdu as an Islamic Language'
'In short, Urdu became the language of Islam in South Asia because
of: the high number of translations and exegeses of the Qurʾān available
in it (Khān 1987, 18; Naqvī 1992); its association with teaching in the
madrasas; the Urdu elegies commemorating the martyrdom of Ḥusain
which is central to the Shīʿa faith; and the Urdu writings of revivalists and
Islamic pressure groups in Pakistan and India.'
