I love how Maul calls Savage “brother” when he’s concerned for his safety. The whole thing about Savage just being his “apprentice” and his apprentice only, is just a facade he puts up because as a Sith Lord, he doesn’t really know how to convey emotions very well. He genuinely cares about his brother but he doesn’t want to show it.
Also when Obi-Wan cut Savages arm off, Maul is overwhelmed with emotion and even ignores Obi-Wan to care for his bro. If Obi-Wan was a darker he could have executed Maul then and there while he was distracted. You have to give him credit here considering that Maul had executed Satine the last time they met. If Anakin was in his position (with Maul killing Padme) he'd try to mow down everyone in the room. Sidenote, Sidious' also allowed Maul to care for his brother, but solely to inflict pain on him in the same way Maul did with Obi-Wan and Satine. These tangential parallels are very interesting, and both reinforce the difference in characters and also present a theme of actions having consequences.
Something that has always stood out to me in this fight is how Palpatine is animated. There's this unnatural fluidity to the way he moves, flipping, ducking and bending in ways that just don't look quite right. A lot of the time when he's moving, he looks less like he's running and more like he's just floating along the ground like some kind of wraith. It makes him seem all the more inhuman, like he's not so much moving normally as he is simply puppetting his own body with the force. It's a great effect and makes Palpatine seem all the more unnatural and unimaginably powerful.
I would watch a remastered version of the fact with a more crisp animation and better refresh rate for modern screens so hard. Disney should really remaster all the best animated fights like that (don't change them; just improve the color quality and refresh rate and stuff) and package them into a light saber dueling special.
Another thing this shows is Palpatine's strengths and weaknesses. Mainly how his smirk breaks only a few times during this fight as if he's thinking "Really, I need to put effort in?" While it also shows how he only uses lightsabers as an egotistical exercise as there are moments where he just wildly swings. Also I really like Witwer's performance as Maul. Massively looking forward to his performance in Season 7.
That is one of the best part of TCW the animators were amazing at duels in the later seasons not only are they amazing looking but they are all more than just duels in this one you can tell that Savage is totally outmatched the entire time and both maul and palpatine are not really going all out palpatine is just toying with them and maul is just fighting normally but after Savage dies maul goes full force and palpatine stops smiling so much and starts snarling palpatine still wins but it's harder for him it's one of my favorite episodes in the entire series

@BattleEmpoleon true very under appreciated, maybe the most under appreciated, i love what a genius dooku is putting them into their weak lightsaber forms, anakin on the defensive and obi wan on the offensive
I would honestly love to see an alternate timeline where Sidious just goes "sure you can be my apprentice again, you just have to get rid of the current one" because a Dooku vs Maul battle would be fantastic. We see quite a few battles from Dooku but he always seems untouchable. He never seems to be threatened by anyone who challenges him, so it would be interesting to see him battle someone who is around his level.
Going by lore and rep, Dooku would completely annihilate Maul. Maul had good fighting skills, but that was abou it. It's why Sidious acquired him "on the side" to use for assassinations. And he did this while he was still an apprentice under Darth Plagueis too. Maul was never really a full sith apprentice, more like a side project. Dooku on the other hand was jedi trained by Yoda and was supposedly just as good with a saber. I mean Dooku and Yoda dueled in the 2nd movie and it was pretty close. Matching Yoda swing for swing is no small feat. Dooku would likely beat Maul just about as easily as Sidious did.
One slight correction. I guess Maul was a full apprentice after Sidious killed Plaguis and before he picked up Dooku. (I'm actually not fully up on when Dooku joined him. I haven't read that book). Like in The Phantom Menace. But he was never in Sidious long term plans.
@@TheRayfield77 I'm pretty sure maul was originally meant to be sidious' long term apprentice. But once he assumed maul was dead and discovered Anakin's great power in the force, his plans changed to make him his apprentice, and when maul showed up again, he decided not to bother with taking him back because he knew Anakin had more potential
The funny thing is Palpy in a really Twisted way has a genuine "Fatherly" "affection" for Maul and Vader 'note the quotes' unlike poor Dooku who he never saw as a viable successor but just a pawn in the game to be thrown away.
I mean, it was pretty clear he was playing with his food from the first move. When he was able to pin both of them down with the force- with them unable to break free. He dropped them so he could see what they've got.
I hope that the Darth Maul Son of Dathomir comics are adapted back into episodes! I really want to see Sidious, Maul, Dooku, and Grievous on screen together!
i love how my boy Shev turns off the lighsabers in the middle of the fight, even though the opponent is literally attacking him at the exact moment as seen in 5:46, he is so confident in his own ability that even though the opponent has a weapon that can rip off a limb with a simple movement and its only form of defense is the lighsaber, it keeps it off because it knows it doesn't need it.
My fave moment in the fight is when sidious just glides out the way of savage’s strikes. He’s having such a laugh while savage just gets more angry and unbalanced
One of the things that surprised me the most is that Filoni stated in an interview that Savage did better against Sidious than the Jedi (the ones that accompanied Windu: Tiin, Fisto, and Kolar). Which only goes to show how superior Sidious is to other Force users, save Yoda, Vapaad amped Windu and full potential Anakin and *sighs* All the Jedi aka Rey
Okay remember the lego darth maul singing awesome TH-cam First ad: Maul 2 blades TH-cam Second ad: Maul 4 blades This video is sponsored by Raid Shadow Legends: Maul 6 blades
One thing I appreciated aside from the fight itself is the background mural of the Mandalorians gunning down Jedi, portrayed as deformed monsters. Really shows the relationship between the two way back then, a good example of show don't tell.
I always love how Sidious laughs pretty much the whole time, man's genuinely enjoying himself. Like when you're 25 and you're 10yr old cousin gets boxing gloves so thinks they're tough af 🥊😂
Thats false. Sidious always laughs to intimidate his opponents which is why he also laughed against yoda and mace even though he was loosing so you could basically say he laughs when he is serious
@@FullFatVideosHi! There is an extended scene in this sidious vs maul duel where maul force chokes sidious and pins him to the wall. Is that scene canon? Because Matt Martin stated that in a tweet. What do you know of this?
"He just shot lightning," as a jab at The Rise of Skywalker. In response, I present to you Return of the Jedi, where the only thing he does is shoot lightning until he is physically picked up and carried.
But Revenge of the Sith he get shocked by his own lightning, but at least be started the fight using a Lightsaber and only converted to his Force Lightning was beacuse he was disarmed
Different circumstance. In Return of the Jedi he was just trying to torture Luke to death. In Rise of Skywalker he keeps shooting lighting at Rey even though she keeps bouncing it back until he is destroyed. If there ever was a time for Sidious to use his lightsaber instead, it was then.
A little detail I love is when Sidious has the two against those windows. They were cracking and with what would probably minimal effort he could have sent them flying likely to their deaths. Instead he lets them go, showing he was indeed playing with his food
"I have plans for you" Since the series was cancelled I thought we'd never see what those plans are but the new trailer for the end of clone wars has given me hope!
Maul was put in prison by Sidious and escaped. The sith then launched an attack on Dathomir killing all but one of the Night sisters. This new season takes place after Maul is saved from Dathomir by Death Watch and brought back to Mandalore
The clone wars is by far my favourite star wars media. Every season was great and the lightsaber fights were even better. I so cant wait for season 7 and see what it gives us.
7:54 fun fact he wasn't begging for his life he was begging for a quick end. Because if you've seen the comics and know palps well, you know there are far worse things than death, quoted from the grand inquisiter.
I think it's interesting to note is that when the sabers get ignited. Maul enters Obi-Wan's defensive pose for the first and only time ever on screen. He's so scared shitless that he instinctively moved to self preservation mode.
0:20 - ahahahaha. That reaction 🤣🤣🤣🤣 6:24 - Damm, that laugh. You can feel every emotion from Palpatine : joy, fun, anger etc. But the one emotion that strikes into every viewer is fear. Cause you see how effortlessly and casually Palpatine made it. Simply toying with them. Now that's scary.
When Savage Oppress dies and Maul and Palpatine Figth you can see that Maul and Palpatine are in relative levels of dueling until Sidious use the force which is his stronger apptitude
It wasn't intended to stay ambiguous, there would have been more arcs with him if the show hadn't been cancelled (we got Maul escaping as a comic: Son of Dathomir)
"Who are you?" "I'm Rey" "Rey who?" *Looks to Full Fat Videos* "Rey'D SHADOW LEGENDS IS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR RPG GAMES SET IN A DARK FANTASY WORLD..."
This is my second favorite duel in the franchise, just behind Maul vs Obi Wan in Rebels. Dave Filoni really goes above and beyond for us every chance he gets
i loved this duel for the intensity in everything going on and how Savage seemed to know he was out of his league but still stuck by his brother's side anyway
Also take note that at 5:03 maul takes the form 3 soresu combat stance which is the most defensive lightsaber combat style, this should indicate how much he feared sidious
Something I personally like is, at the end, Maul really starts to stand up to Palpatine. They start to break even in the duel, trading the same blows, blocking perfectly. I think that in a straight saber duel, no directly using the force with no pushes and lightning, Palpatine vs Maul at that point is a 50-50. But Palpatine is smart, he knows damn well he can out-do Maul in the force easily, and just goes to finish the duel before there's any chance for that. It displays the skill of two true sith lords, but still shows that the strongest one comes out on top, no matter where that strength comes from.
Canonically, Windu defeated Palpatine not because he was a superior dualist, but because he used a fighting style that absorbs the strength of dark side force users. Since Palpatine's fighting style relied heavily on the force to work, he could no longer perform many, if not most, of his moves in his arsenal, handicapping his performance.
Palpatine walks in, killing two mandalorians without moving a muscle, he doesn't even look at them. He just walks through, smiling, as they are suffocated behind him
Talking about the Windu and sidious fight. I agree I think he felt Anakin coming so he threw the fight. Also he was only using 1 lightsaber so he wasn't fighting with his full ability. Like he planned the whole thing after Anakin said he will turn him into the Jedi counsel.
8:07 actually, anakin was supposed to beg to be saved, but it was cut due to the scene becoming too long. In fact, you can see him reaching his hand out and mouth the words "help me" they just muted it and cut Obi Wan's dialogue.
It was comfirmed by Lucas that mace won because of his vaapad lightsaber style forged to use the darkside within his enemy and himself to win the battle especially against darkside users
Well yes, but part of it may have been because he needed to lose for Anakin to take pity on him and join the dark side. He had a winning scenario whether or not he won or lost the duel.
Though vapaad is very strong and can be a logical explanation for windu winning the fight , it’s believed that was anakins final straw before becoming Vader . George Lucas is the creator of Star Wars but I’ve read he doesn’t know what is going on half of the tine
Another cool detail about this fight is the mural depicting the mandolorians fighting the Jedi. The mural just adds another layer of depth to this fight.

Savage + Maul vs Obi Wan on Florrum
Dooku vs Obi Wan + Anakin (Obi Diah).
Ahsoka Vs Maul lol "Your lucky my master didn't show up.... the way your fighting you wouldnt have lasted long.."
@BattleEmpoleon what battle you talking about
@@chaos_kid-_-9147 I LOVE THAT BATTLE SO MUCH
@BattleEmpoleon true very under appreciated, maybe the most under appreciated, i love what a genius dooku is putting them into their weak lightsaber forms, anakin on the defensive and obi wan on the offensive

Maul definitely got a bit of revenge on obi wan. He freaking killed his gf.

Darth Maul's Failure could have led to one hell of a Redemption story.
I really hope the new season includes fights like this
Ashoka vs Maul fo sure
ray parks came back to mo-cap the fight that maul is gonna have with ahsoka
Filoni said during Star Wars Celebration that he he considers the Maul-Ahsoka duel is their finest work. A paraphrase but in essence of what he said.
I really hope they show Palpatine's full power since Rise of Skywalker only brought him back to be one shotted before he could show us everything.
Ahsoka vs Maul is gonna be lit af
I hope that the Darth Maul Son of Dathomir comics are adapted back into episodes! I really want to see Sidious, Maul, Dooku, and Grievous on screen together!
i love how my boy Shev turns off the lighsabers in the middle of the fight, even though the opponent is literally attacking him at the exact moment as seen in 5:46, he is so confident in his own ability that even though the opponent has a weapon that can rip off a limb with a simple movement and its only form of defense is the lighsaber, it keeps it off because it knows it doesn't need it.
Dude, the Son of Dathomir comic was the only thing aside from the main movies/clone wars to remain canon in the Disney purchase.
It is meant to be apart of TCW which they said from the beginning would stay canon.
Psychonis glad to hear that
My fave moment in the fight is when sidious just glides out the way of savage’s strikes. He’s having such a laugh while savage just gets more angry and unbalanced
5:40 The way Palpatine was kicked off by Savage, then backflips and force pulls both him and Maul whilst momentarily floating is incredible.
If rey could defeat kylo with 2minutes of swinging lightsaber practice, imagine what she would with 10 minutes of swinging.
@@paulwalker9608 Do you want reality to be shattered as the center of the galaxy is swallowed up by a black hole after one swing???
This was my favorite arc. Palpatine actually coming out of his ivory tower to become Sidious and slap Maul down was tremendous
7:03 Heh I like how the "brother" is synchronized with the clip
Okay remember the lego darth maul singing awesome

Can’t wait to see what his opinion of the Ashoka vs Maul fight is like
4:49 This line reminds me heavily of the “I have been every voice you have ever heard inside your head” quote
One thing I appreciated aside from the fight itself is the background mural of the Mandalorians gunning down Jedi, portrayed as deformed monsters. Really shows the relationship between the two way back then, a good example of show don't tell.
At least we know Maul is coming back in the final season of Clone Wars.
And so he did, THE SIEGE OF MANDALORE AND ORDER 66 ARC IS *THE BEST PIECE OF STAR WARS MEDIA SINCE TESB*
@picklerick3588, I don't see why it can't be both my guy
I was promised an analysis of the Grievous fight in his first appearance in Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars in 2 weeks...3 weeks ago. I am disappoint.
It's out next week! :)
@@FullFatVideos I am looking at you with suspicion xD
@@FullFatVideosHi! There is an extended scene in this sidious vs maul duel where maul force chokes sidious and pins him to the wall. Is that scene canon? Because Matt Martin stated that in a tweet. What do you know of this?
And the fact they all use juyo makes the duel so raw and so brutal
"He just shot lightning," as a jab at The Rise of Skywalker. In response, I present to you Return of the Jedi, where the only thing he does is shoot lightning until he is physically picked up and carried.
That's fair
But Revenge of the Sith he get shocked by his own lightning, but at least be started the fight using a Lightsaber and only converted to his Force Lightning was beacuse he was disarmed
It doesn't make both of this scenes less stupid🤷
Different circumstance. In Return of the Jedi he was just trying to torture Luke to death. In Rise of Skywalker he keeps shooting lighting at Rey even though she keeps bouncing it back until he is destroyed. If there ever was a time for Sidious to use his lightsaber instead, it was then.
@@Darthpsychonis he was hooked up to a machine (presumably keeping him alive) and without a lightsaber.
Isaac Whittaker-Dakin I don’t think we’ll be seeing them in the new series. But we did get to see them in the Son of Dathomir comic

The clone wars is by far my favourite star wars media. Every season was great and the lightsaber fights were even better. I so cant wait for season 7 and see what it gives us.
You can also notice that Palpatine only really tries after he kill Savage, before then he seams to just toy with them.
7:54 fun fact he wasn't begging for his life he was begging for a quick end. Because if you've seen the comics and know palps well, you know there are far worse things than death, quoted from the grand inquisiter.
I loved this video but the peep show moment was the icing on the cake.
Chance would be a fine thing!
@@FullFatVideos Is that a thing people say?
i've never noticed that Maul is like obi wan in this fight
Good music choice man. I've been listening to Samuels music every day when I do my homework.
Darth Sidious moves like he’s in his 20s or 30s. Just shows how powerful he is in the force, truly an amazing villain and one of my favorite Sith.
THIS is the best lightsaber duel ever. Period.
The thing I love is that the lightsaber combat is that its also mixed in with plenty of martial arts, kicks, punches, etc.
The Dolby Atmos sound in this fight was really great. Hopefully we get more duels in the new season.
RaId ShAdOw LeGeNdS
I think it's interesting to note is that when the sabers get ignited. Maul enters Obi-Wan's defensive pose for the first and only time ever on screen. He's so scared shitless that he instinctively moved to self preservation mode.
0:20 - ahahahaha. That reaction 🤣🤣🤣🤣
6:24 - Damm, that laugh. You can feel every emotion from Palpatine : joy, fun, anger etc. But the one emotion that strikes into every viewer is fear. Cause you see how effortlessly and casually Palpatine made it. Simply toying with them. Now that's scary.

Btw,that wasn't me in RoS,that was my twin bro

This is getting out of hand, now there are two of them!
The coolest moment of this fight for me was when Sidious was pushed off that balcony but uses the force to pull both Savage and Maul with him... !!!
I'm Rey.

REYD SHADOW LEGENDS
This is one of the best "Rey who?" jokes I've ever seen
@@DMan-ev2rx yep
When Savage Oppress dies and Maul and Palpatine Figth you can see that Maul and Palpatine are in relative levels of dueling until Sidious use the force which is his stronger apptitude

i loved this duel for the intensity in everything going on and how Savage seemed to know he was out of his league but still stuck by his brother's side anyway
7:29 because the high ground always wins
I know maul can keep up with sidious just like dooku can with yoda but eventually the apprentices will loose
I also love the deeper hum of Sidious's sabers.
Makes him all the more menacing.
I love the way he says "the graphics are amazing"
Wait is that Doctor Who music playing while you talk about your sponsor
Palpatine walks in, killing two mandalorians without moving a muscle, he doesn't even look at them. He just walks through, smiling, as they are suffocated behind him
8:07 that’s not entirely true. He yelled, “SAVE ME” but it was cut in the end, although you can see his lips moving.
this is my favorite lightsaber duel with obi wan vs maul in rebels being my second favorite.
When full fat videos are sponsored: "a surprise to be sure but a welcome one"
When it's sponsored by Raid: Shadow Legends: *audible groan*
Talking about the Windu and sidious fight. I agree I think he felt Anakin coming so he threw the fight. Also he was only using 1 lightsaber so he wasn't fighting with his full ability. Like he planned the whole thing after Anakin said he will turn him into the Jedi counsel.
7:53 I felt so bad for Maul even though he’s one of the most powerful sith ever lol
Love the music they use for palpatine. It’s dark and eerie almost scary.
When you finally find a video whose comments haven’t been deactivated
8:07 actually, anakin was supposed to beg to be saved, but it was cut due to the scene becoming too long. In fact, you can see him reaching his hand out and mouth the words "help me" they just muted it and cut Obi Wan's dialogue.
Raid got you too, huh?
They didn't leave it ambiguous. That's where the Son of Dathomir comic comes in.
Palpatine didn’t sit in that office for over a decade to get offed by one Jedi. He manipulated that entire situation.
Though vapaad is very strong and can be a logical explanation for windu winning the fight , it’s believed that was anakins final straw before becoming Vader . George Lucas is the creator of Star Wars but I’ve read he doesn’t know what is going on half of the tine
The way Palpatine went in on Maul & Sauvage...I honestly didnt expect that level of BEAST. New found respect for Palps.
“This video is sponsored and approved by RAID: Shadow Legends”

Another cool detail about this fight is the mural depicting the mandolorians fighting the Jedi. The mural just adds another layer of depth to this fight.
