It has always weird me out how almost all the content related to the pokemon tcg is collecting and selling cards instead of the game itself, im so glad that this year has seen a huge amount of content talking about past formats and how the game evolved
@@ripedroxx it’s really unfortunate, even though we have such thriving communities for competitive, the whole collector and *shudders* investor community overshadow them in the mainstream. I think the recent strides in deck accessibility TPCI has made has really helped bring people in. If you’re interested in another great channel for PTCG breakdowns TheDexLogs has a similar long format presentation style (mind you, PTCG isn’t their main card game). Also, don’t forget to share this video!!!!!
@@ripedroxxI’m a huge fan of magic and play a lot of different formats, well I have a son in the way and hope to eventually get him into the game, but I feel like teaching him something like Pokémon first would be a lot better because of how complex magic is, but I feel it’s so hard to find channels of a good quality to learn the game and strategy and things like that. It’s a bummer, especially since when I was a kid in gen 1 I actually played the card game and didn’t care about the collecting and value. It was a tcg for me not a ccg
Also one other rec is maybe filling up that black screen at the start. Some people have very low attention spans, so it would be cool to have a silhouette of the Pokémon to break up the initial void
Starting the video and immediately get blasted with Poképark music is an instant subscribe. Though considering I already watched the other videos, I’m shocked I hadn’t already.
When I was 16 and played the TCG for the first time properly on the online game I made the gengar/trevenant deck with great success. So glad to hear younger me was onto something there. even threw in a mewtwo ex despite not knowing the meta. This is the first time I've heard someone mention this deck, thank you for the nostalgia! Your videos are incredibly high quality!
Killer video homie. I never knew that I needed this type of content in my life and I love it. Side note: there's a weird formatting issue at 16:36 when you're trying to show off the tournament standings for the Gengar lv.X decks and it gets covered behind the cards. Regardless, great job man!!
Loved seeing the improvements in this video from the last legacy video, great job cutting out the blank spaces. Looking forward to more, you’re killing it 🔥
I’ve never played or cared about the poketcg, but I like playing card games so I decided to watch you’re garchomp video and it was so well done it got me into the poketcg. You’re content is so good
This video couldnt make me happier. My fav pokemon is Haunter, but we all know middle evolutions dont get that much attention anyways. I recently decided I'd be collecting Pokemon cards related to this evolution line and will be using this video as a guide on which set they appear. Thank you so much for ur great work there
Just a quick note: Hisuian Zoroark VSTAR’s attack doesn’t require the damage be on benched pokemon, so it caps at 300 and 450 damage without and with sky field in play, respectively Either way loved the video 😊
And even then you technically dont need to run sky field, as with wally in expanded you can easily hit stuff for 300 on your first turn, gapejaw bog has better utility in most cases
Yesssssss more of this! If I may suggest a next topic, how about the legacy of any of the gen 1 starters? I'm sure you'd have more than enough material for any of them individually.
I would also like to mention Gengar VMax was used at a regional with Arceus VStar in the first north american regional post COVID. In combination with Choice Belt it was able to win the mirror thanks to its bulk and ability to check Mew VMax.
I am stunned how good your videos are considering y'all just started a few months ago. These are super informative and SUPER well-edited. Fantastic work, and Happy Halloween!
Really a great video! I’m waiting for more videos like this (specially the Mewtwo and Mew histories). Great content, really good editing and narration. You got a new subscriber :)
I really like this! It's like False Swipe Gaming's "How GOOD was X ACTUALLY" series, but for the Pokémon's competitive history in the TCG. I'd love to see more!
Breakthrough Gengar was a favorite of mine ^_^ there was a brief season where Noivern from an earlier set wasn't rotated out yet and could deal 30 damage to each pokemon on your opponent's bench, after a couple turns of setup it was pratty fun getting to set up multiple turns of knockouts back in XY era
One of my favourite decks back in the old gameboy games was using Fossil Gengar along with Fossil Raichu (the one that had Gigashock for 30 damage + 10 damage on up to three benched Pokemon.) It was clunky as all hell and never would've worked in real life, but it was real satisfying to watch the AI squirm as they tried to prevent knockouts.
It's also worth noting that the HGSS Gastly was also contributed to Gengar's success at the time, as it was a basic pokemon that also trainer-locked an opponent.
Vilegar was hands down my favorite deck in any TCG I've ever played, the format right before black and white base was so much fun! If they didn't early rotate right before nationals Vilegar easily would have been one of the best decks at nats and worlds.
Fainting spell gengar would also use unown G to ensure that gengar wasn't knocked out by effect of attack so its ability would be guaranteed to trigger as pokemon like storefront dusknoir could knock it out by just placing damage counters getting around fainting spell
Sadly, the new Gengar ex that was just revealed has an ability that is a reprint of the Crimson Invasions Gengar, with an attack that isn’t strong enough to compensate for being a stage 2. It will probably see no play
Hello, it was great ! Also how do you make gengar from breaktrough viable in glc ? I’ve tried in a psychic spread list but it just doesn’t really fit. I would be glad to know how you achieve it. Thanks !
I’ve barely played the TCG, just goofed off with some starter decks really. Had no idea some of these mechanics and strategies even existed. That HGSS lost zone deck in particular seems super cool, messing with your opponents hand and forcing discards before cards are even played, not to mention an entirely different win condition. So sick.
Actually, you can clock in at a daunting 300 damage if all 6 of you pokemon have damage when using ticking curse. 280 if using double turbo but it's still nuts
The sinister fog and creep show gengar used to be one of my favorite decks to play, it was so fun to use yet being a bit hard to pull off but it was absolutely awesome and had a good payoff
I visit a friend house with a crazy collection and we couldnt notice at one point how rare gengar cards are jeez my fav pokemon and its very uncommon to find
Modern day Ghost Pokemon are so complex, you got a Minecraft chest, a chandelier, and a couple old dolls. But why cant we just go back to when they used to be purple blobs with a face 😭😭😭
I feel like you kinda undersold Gengar Vmax. At the first regional after Covid, Gengar Vmax was in 3 out of the top 8 decks. It won the regional in combination with Arceus, and Single Strike Gengar made both top 4 and top 8. Although the card did basically nothing for the rest of its release, I feel like a mention towards its domination of a tournament was warranted
Wait hold up. Toxic gas from Muk disables pokemon powers, just like Neutralizing gas on Galarian Weezing disables abilities. I wonder if that ability is a reference to this card
I'll be honest: Gengar from 151 has got to have the WORST artwork I've ever seen on a pokemon card that wasnt like, one of those weird japanese exclusive cards. I dont see how people like it, it looks terrible!
This channel is what the PTCG needs to build a stronger competitive community akin to Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh.

Unironically GOATed level of quality content for someone that’s just starting
True
facts..
One thing I’d like is just one frame that shows every single Gengar card ever, meta relevant or not. Would scratch my brain real good
Also one other rec is maybe filling up that black screen at the start. Some people have very low attention spans, so it would be cool to have a silhouette of the Pokémon to break up the initial void
I've literally been hoping for a series exactly like this for a long time. Please keep up the good work!

This is a great resource for Pokémon cube building. They all have good synergy together with the placement of damage counters.
Another spectacular video, please make more and become the False Swipe Gaming of the Pokemon tcg
I would personally be interested in seeing a history or meta history video on the Gym Leader Challenge format!
Can’t wait for more content on Pokémon TCG history! I’ll be watching
Love your videos!

Gengar Expedition is also playable in 2004, being a part of niche cradily and shedinja lock decks
Great vid, I hope you cover even more Pokémon in the future!

gengar VMAX won a regional tournament in the US with Arceus VStar as it's partner, just in case
Best pokemon tcg channel!!
Gardevoir should be next. It’s arguably one of the most competitive pokemon ever. All Gardevoir cards seem to be good.
