Maria Ewing is the best Carmen ever. I don't know much about music theory...but damn, Maria makes you feel things, makes you dance. She has so much power, it seems she really is Carmen.
She sings very well, although there is something in "Tralala" number four by María Callas that is unique, I don't know if only I believe it. God exists, creation bears witness to it, God loves us, but sin separates us from Him, therefore He sent His Son Christ to live a Holy life, to die on a Cross paying the penalty for our sins, saving us from the condemnation, dark powers and curses, reconciling us with God only by Faith in Jesus and his Sacrifice, Giving us Eternal Life, God bless you
I bought the DVD of this several years ago. Not particularly a huge opera fan but always liked Carmen.I was also unfamiliar with Maria Ewing before watching the DVD. Now, she is my all time favorite Carmen.

This is a 1991 production, staged by Nuria Espert (although she is not responsible for the flamenco choreography). The flamenco dancer is Juan Ortega.
The tempo may be a BIT on the slow side but it is meant to start slow. The opening of the act is Andante and the tempo does not speed up until the second verse, which is exactly what Mehta does here. There is another tempo change later and then a presto at the end but the piece is supposed to start slow.

Agnes Baltsa was excellent too (for me, a bit more than Maria Ewing). But of course, Maria Ewing made a marvellous performance !!
The best carmen ever. I like her very much because her strenght comes from the very inside. She is so powerful, brava María.

This is a fierce Carmen. I think I've found a new favorite singer

Eu prefiro a Agnes Baltsa. Já viu?
e ouvi
I love Maria Ewing! Of all the Carmens I've seen this far, she is by far the most enthusiastic both in voice and appearance!
That's Unique production! Bravo Maria Ewing
Lindíssimo!
I think they slowed it down for the dancers. Flamenco is pretty hard to do to this piece, considering how fast it is.

Que maravilha!!!
Sim💃🌹❤️
beautiful :'( too beautiful :''''''(
Magnifique!
May she rest in peace.
Possuo o DVD.
This was their production in 1991.
Hard to believe it was 30 years ago (17 March 2021 today)
she is doing nothing, and still her expression is so strong!
The best

Italian Opera, Set in Spain, Sung in French & composed by a Frenchman..... go figure....

R.I.P
How is she able to sing like that with a corset?? o.o I assume that's not her natural shape.
Sophie Welsh it’s her natural shape. Just watch Salome’s dance with the seven veils. She’s always been fit and very slim.
Tempi?
Can someone get me the English translations?
the translation is not important at all, believe me. it s music and dance
Go to Google
she looks like carol burnette
LOL ... Yes!!! in Annie

I was thinking the same lol

On est loin de Teresa Bergenza !
🤢🤮🤮🤮
