In this video I have covered the second most popular setup black could choose against the London System: the King’s Indian Defense setup with Nf6, g6 and Bg7, in which black plays as if he were playing against the main line d4, c4 white openings.
I have tried to explain the two main approaches white could opt for against this - the aggressive approach with 3. Nc3, going for opposite side castling and a kingside attack, and the more conservative 3. e3, most likely leading to both sides castling kingside.
The latter is more in the nature of the London System, whereas playing Nc3 is going to resemble Pirc or Sicilian positions more.

Absolutely killer series. The videos are long and deserve a paper and pen to take notes. Pausing the video here and there to play some blitz games in between for practice while memorizing the lines. Reviewing the blitz games and then coming back to this series and comparing has helped tremendously with internalizing the patterns and ideas.
Thank you again for this content. Good luck on your journey towards becoming a GM.

I'm a long time KIA player and a recently begun King's Indian Defence player and I have encountered both this 'Jobava' system and a similar sort of positional early e4 system (this one starting from a Colle) against my King's Indian before. However, this one makes me more afraid. I will have to study this theory in depth and decide on a plan- I'm not letting lazy Londoners best me! Thank you for this video. It's scary the kinds of positional systems white can set up and force onto black.

Nice video! Thanks a lot. I play KID set-up myself and in Nc3 variation I don't how what the engine says but main line looks deadly but Bg7 instad of d5 I realy enjoy. And in e3 variation there is one interesting line instad of Qb6 after c3 play Be6 first to avoid Qb3 and force Qc1 after Qb6 in next move (typical for reti when white plays it). I am looking forward to next videos.

13:41 : what means "wedge in whites camp"?
I heard the term "wedge" before, but it usually it means a a triangle pawn formation. So what dose mr. Hanging Pawns mean by this? Looks like he's referring to some standard pattern.

I'm literally in the exact position at 33:10 from the black perspective in a correspondence match against a player 600 elo points higher than me.
I was playing mostly logical moves in terms of remaining solid. Beyond that I know very little about what to do in the KID setup lol. I'm sort of experimenting with it.
Glad to hear my d6, b6 and Bb7 moves have essentially removed both of white's main plans with e4 or Ne5. I was only thinking about developing the lightsquare bishop and keeping a solid pawn triangle presence of my own to try and contend with White's London triangle.

At around 6 minutes, you talked about exchanging black's bishop on g7, the main defender of his king, by lining up the queen and bishop and then bringing the bishop to h6. However, black can bring his h pawn to h7, so that the square is defended with both the bishop and rook, foiling the exchange plan. The square loses the rook defense as soon as black castles, but before castling black can advance the g-pawn forward, further preventing taking the g7 bishop. Should white give up on exchanging the bishop in this case? Or is there some way to continue the attack on the g7 bishop?

  • @mumblernumber7213
    @mumblernumber7213 3 ปีที่แล้ว

After white sets up the battery planning to move the white bishop to h6, why is black doing h6 a bad move?

  • @JoelSchnall

How do you deal with c5 KID lines, where black plays Be6 before Qb6, preventing white from responding with Qb3, rather than attacking it after?

The problem I have with these videos (which are excellent! But . . . ) is that to get anything out of them you need to have a good mental map of the board with all the numbers and letters. It's like if you're a guitar player taking about playing the guitar and you say "So now you play A13 add 9 to Bm9 to Csus4." It's pretty much gibberish to anyone who doesn't know it and while I've been playing chess for a long time-over 40 years, easily-it's always been on a casual basis with other players who barely know "Okay, develop, then castle early." Indeed they deride all the gambits and systems as "All that theoretical bullshit" and so I remain trapped in a Chess Gulag where nobody actually plays classic chess.
Then, with no human player I play with the computer; I've played with the computer since the first computer boards (I don't remember the names, but they were things like Chess Cenius where you pushed your piece down on your starting square and then your ending square, and the computer lit up her starting square and ending square.
All very fun, but nowhere was there any need to learn the positions in terms of letters and numbers . . .(*crying loudly*) . . . so what do I do? Try to memorize the board when the people and machines I play with never mention chess positions, let alone follow gambits and systems?
*Sigh* it's like music where if you don't learn to read you can still play but you'll never get into the big leagues, let alone the little leagues.
