one thing i learned about using zip ties, if you leave any exposed trailer not cut off flush, and especially ones that were angled cut, beware, those edges are like a razor blade. my advice is to clip them flush to the lock, then sand it down so it feels smooth.
Yes! I use a flush-cut wire cutter as you do on circuit board components that drop through holes and then get soldered in place. It is a cheap way to cut these!
I've got a deep 4-inch cut in my arm from the sharp cut-off. I did melt it down with a cigarette lighter, but obviously not enough, so be careful of that. This is a great video and great tips. I'm going to use a lot of them, thank you❤
Rather than using scissors or even side cutters to cut off the excess, (which leaves a nasty edge) try fingernail or toenail clippers. Put the cutting edge right up against the clutch and clip. The result is amazingly smooth. The larger toenail clippers work even better. I keep one in with my Zip Ties.
So great I'm going to reseal my pack and cut a hole in the side instead. (Of course the manufacturers could just sell zip ties in a zip lock bag, but that would be too easy)
Some good ideas; others are stretching it a bit; some are not so great. A zip tie is too slick to use as a drill stop. I use shrink wrap tubing for repeating depth drilling. Also, there are velcro bundle ties that will work well and are reusable, instead of zip ties.
Wow, your zip tie hacks are next-level! I love how you explained the one for organizing cables-super helpful. I'm just starting my own DIY channel and am feeling so inspired by creators like you. Thanks for sharing such amazing ideas
some of these are great tips, others not so much... ONE MAJOR thing to know, if anyone doesn't know already, YOU WANT A CLEAN CUT FOR ZIP TIES, bc those sharp ends will CUT YOU!! AND I PROMISE, YOU'LL BLEED! also another good tip is knowing why the zip tie has an angle at the end, the upwards end is how a technician knows by feeling, which way the zip tie are needed to be closed without having to redo, turn it, or whatever... no one should ever keep a lighter lit for longer than a few seconds at a time.. they will explode... some of your other tips, some made no sense to me, but maybe helpful to others... tks for sharing the ideas!
*Never, NEVER, **_NEVER_** cut a zip tie with anything but a zip-tie gun. If not cut flush, it leaves a super sharp edge that WILL slit your (or the next guy’s) wrist when reaching into the cable bundle!*
If you twist the remainder of the zip tie with a pair of Lineman Pliers you will get a flush smooth end. Simply place the Lineman pliers up to the locking head of the zip and turn in a circular motion, rotating till the remaining unwanted portion of tie breaks off
Um... I just twist it with my fingers till it comes off. No tools. Great for camping. Made mini Saw-blade when camping. Used rock to make notches -- sharp, but not much draw. Used it to "split" openings in bigger pieces of wood -- makes them start burning deep sooner, also make fire faggots when no long grass or reeds. Desert camping is odd.
On using a Zip Tie on a Tape Roll as a means of Tape Tearing: My SO and I think it possible to probable that moving the end of the Zip Tie around to the back or side of the roll is more likely to help create a cleaner tear.
Definitely sum cool ones. One I have use b4 Is I’ve ran out of weed eater line when I was almost done and didn’t want to run to Lowe’s or Home Depot when I only had about 15 min left so I have used zip ties as weed eater line and let me tell u it work just as good if not better.
I have a commercial zip tie gun. You adjust the pressure from 1 of 5 settings then it pulls every tie to the same tension and pulls the end off leaving a safe edge.
I love how he showed the tape roll hack and then later on actually using tape fromn a roll and used pair of scissors to cut it instead of the tape roll hack he JUST showed us lol.
I also used zip ties to hold foam padding on the top of my extension ladder to protect my hands. When I need longer sections I pull a number of zip ties together.
From experience if you tie a wire loom with a zip tie and pull it too tight the wire will short out where the zip tie has been pulled too tight 47 years being a mechanic the zip ties have brought a whole new realm better than tie wire the main thing is is cutting off the end and hoping nobody gets cut with that and have a nice day God bless America
41 years as a mechanic when when i was a 1st year apprentice my journeymen showed me how to take it off clean with the side cutters. just twist it with the head of the pliers it breaks off clean. he then said to me nobody will get their arm ripped open
One of the best idea videos I've seen! Think I will use the stick tape one. 😂😂BUT, when the cat came on 45/70, I laughed til I cried wondering whether the cat would be central to 46/70 in some ghastly way😂😂. Also, I love the macrame jeans joke😂! The tree protection comments ARE important though, SERIOUSLY 😑!
Lots of good ideas but there were many where I had NO idea what you were doing. Would just a little explanation, either oral or written be too much to ask? But for the ones I got, cool!
Def love the soap dispenser idea cuz so much comes out esp too much for kids. But i guess if you dilute it like i do with water, you won't have to worry lol
I commonly will use zip ties on mechanic work. I hung a transmission cooler in an area to get the wind and still be protected from road debris and used zip ties to hold it in place. Often to keep lines and electric in place under the hood or on other projects on my vehicles I use zip ties.
We fish colored zip ties through the jaws of the fish we 3:16 catch when a group of us go deep water fishing. Each person has their own color, so we know how to separate our catches when we get to the dock.
Cool trick- stagger them around drill bit and u can use ur drill and bit as a miniature weed eater for ur wife’s garden or flower bed where a weed eater would shred everything.
@jamiemichael4190 Thank you, I was looking for that exact hint!! I will be using this out in my flower beds and also to help me get out some of the weed roots. 🤗
Many of these tips are useful - but WHY does your demonstration person use Scissors to cut zip ties - when you SHOULD use flush-cutting side cutters to avoid sharp corners prodruding and injuring others..? STAY SAFE - CUT IT FLUSH...!
I have used the zip ties on tape and it works great 😊

great tip!!!
THANK YOU @williamdavis4542, Fantastic idea‼ I would add to that a quick melt of the end, (with a lighter), makes it even smoother and more permanent.
Good suggestion 👍
@@JessieI nice final touch on the already great tip....like whipped cream on top!
brill idea, thank you! I will use them more now, as I always hated the hazz. edge it creates once they are cut
I majored in Zip-Tie Studies in college and find this to be extremely helpful.
😆🤣 Thank you @keefr128 for today's laughter!
Hahaha
You are a certified zip tie technician. Thanks for the great ideas.

Number 1 is my favourite. The times I've picked up my top opened pack the wrong way, and they all fall out. Grrrrr. The side opening is a great idea.

@@fdabelstein most of my zip ties DO come in a zip lock bag! lol but i agree, if they dont #1 is GREAT
I had the same problem as you 😂 This video helped me solve it
I also had the same problem haha, it was very messy and annoying every time I rearranged it
@@fdabelstein yeah, but I'd forget, or it wouldn't seal properly, and the final result would still = spills 🤣.

Amazing work.

I love the sound of zip ties!
Genial in its simplicity! From OR, Sardinia, Italy

A zip tie is too slick to use as a drill stop. I use shrink wrap tubing for repeating depth drilling.

More than once I thought "And if you use velcro strip you can untie it afterwards without any tools".
A bag of mixed zip ties and a roll of duct tape and you can conquer the world. Great video,
If I can't fix it with a zip tie or duct tape, it can't be fixed.
Exactly what I was thinking.
settle down, macgyver
With the added benefit of fire and water
BEST hack/DIY video I've seen to date and I watch tons!!! wish all were like this, almost everything very useful imo and no wasted time! great work!!!

Thanks for the tip in case I want to hurt someone 👍🏽🤗
flush cuts only.
OR cut flush and use one of these great lighter tips to melt the raw edge down smooth. Lol

Great tips thanks. Also a cautionary tip, disposable lighters can explode causing serious injury💥 They should only be lit for a few seconds⏰️
And leave black soot behind.

You can avoid the sharp edges left by cutting off the excess tie, by merely twisting it a couple times with pliers. Leaves smooth edge.
Great for “sewing” hemming/joining shade cloth for that extra 10C° or more cooler temps in summer at windows or in the courtyard! Quick & easy😃
