Couple Reduces Cost of Living by Converting an Airstream Camper Into a Tiny House

- Allison and James bought a 1968 Airstream Overlander camper trailer for $8,000 CAD and gave it a complete overhaul, converting it into a lovely and functional home on wheels that's just 26 feet long and 6.5 feet wide. Perfect for two minimalist nomads :)
The couple has been living in it full-time for 18 months and we're excited that they took the time to share their experience renovating the Airstream, give us a tour, and tell us about some of the pros and cons of living this way.

For people with no carpentry experience you guys did a very good job on something that is not at all easy
I would have pitched a tent on pallets to use for sleeping when working on the camper or when sleeping hours are an issue. Must be nice to have so many talents to pull it all together. I'm impressed
I'm so into tents since I watched an episode in another YT channel of a family of 4 living in a big tent in the woods.

@@miranda_miranda I saw one also where a couple and their two youngish boys live in a large tent - with a bit of an addition added - out on space they rent. The place they have is large by 'normal' standards, but some of that visually facilitated by lots of trees & bushes. It makes it feel like they live acres away from anyone one else. In reality they have water by way of a hose from the main house, plus they have a solar power set-up. They have made it work.
My Dad used to pitch a huge army tent for us all to sleep in during the hot summer time. We lived in a tiny mobile home with 6 of us so the tent felt so huge. I really enjoyed that.😊
This is probably the most beautiful trailer conversion I have ever seen. I would love it!
I just do not understand how someone who does not have any building experience built such a cozy tiny house on wheel.

Converted airstreams make beautiful tiny homes on wheels. I've found that the new ones are nice but aren't always conducive for full time living (not to mention the astronomical costs for a new one). So beautiful to see what Allison and James have built!
If it’s on wheels it probably doesn’t come up to Code, I just watched a Canadian womans video last night, she had a tiny home on wheels built, rents her place to put it, she just found out it doesn’t come up to code so she has to move it.
Some neighbour reported her.
She spent around $130,000 on her build, now she’s in a nightmare.
I’m English and want land in America for a Cabin build but No way would I have anything built Unless I own the land, and Everything comes up to building code because if ya do you could screw ya self.
These guys here are on exactly the same Island, ……Vancouver Island, hope & pray they don’t run into the same issues as she has.
Some of my happiest memories are living in a 31 ft Trailer HOUSE ( camper as some call them ) VERY NICE , LOVE the openness and white color of the walls ! Very soothing to the SPIRT !

Having built our van in 5 months, their process was the first one I've seen that looked very similar to ours. So fun to see a very realistic build, and the result is stunning!

I think what makes all the difference in the world with a house like this is where you park it. Some spots could be downright depressing, or amazing.

Beautiful realization! A lot of work but also a lot of satisfaction. Very well organized space. The arrangement for water and electricity is smart and seem to work well for them. Many hour of work though! But a definite succès. Love the space organization. Jalous.

This is beautiful, well done. We live in northern Canada and are looking to live here in spring/summer/fall and then to BC for the winter months where we can live in an RV and stay warm. So was happy to see someone living year round in an rv in BC.

Beautiful build… so comfortable.🐾 I have a 1972 land yacht in my backyard, which I am restoring…. my intention is to put it on a permanent spot surrounded by a deck with an outside shower and a 10 x 20‘ full bathroom with washer and dryer… right now. It’s in my backyard I use it as my Zen meditation, safe spot. You guys seem to have figured life out and that’s wonderful.👀💕🙏
I’m new to your channel. I just bought land and built my own tiny home and had to stay here during the process to save money and I am alone snd got time of myself. So I can’t image being together. If you can do that it shows how strong of a couple you are and learn to respect each other. I agree my okay is a 8x16 and everything has to have a home if two things are out of place it looks like a huge mess. Plus yes on the bugs. But I love it and my cost gave cut 75% and now I’m learning to garden so that will help even more.
I really like what they did. I also like how they presented their build and the inside. Just to the point.

What a beautiful trailer, couple, story. Very few couples could manage this small space together. Their ability to work togeether as a couple is even more remarkable than their remodel of the air stream. For me, someone who collects art from all over the world when I travel, I need a much larger space. I also need space for my clothes :). In a small space there is no room for clothes, art, etc. So, I imagine that this life style is not livable for "forever," especially if kids are desired. But, who cares, for a few years, great!

I wish people in america were more honest this kind of living is popular more now than ever due to the housing crisis and lack of work, as well as the massive amount of debt we find ourselves in due to student loans etc.
