When I chose a UK surgeon, I went to a private clinic in Harley Street, and my Doctor is a sculptor, its not just about getting the lipo fat out, but leaving you with a good shape as well. I have had cankles since puberty. I've always been underweight, always had extra small clothes, but I always still tried to lose weight, because only thing that I saw was fat knees and fat ankles. I always knew that it is not normal. I didn't knew about lipedema until this year. Everyone said to me 'it's just genes, you just have that type of legs', 'you are too young to have health issues', 'you just need to be sporty then your legs will change'. It isn't true. I've always been active. My shame of my legs changed my personality. My mom is 2 times heavier than me, but she has 2 times slimmer ankles. My sister isn't sporty, but she haven't bulky legs. Never seen my ankle bone, just a dip in my fat around that area. I'm starting to feel hopeful about future. Feel blessed to know that there are doctors in the world that can help me.

I've had lipedema since I was in middle school. I'm 51 now. My legs looked totally normal as a child but then started to just look different from "normal" people. I hated gym class and never tried out for cheer or pom-pom squad because i just couldn't imagine wearing a skirt in front of others. As i got older and had kids my legs just continued to swell. I haven't seen my knees since i was probably 16 or 17. In my 30s my arms started to become affected, from my wrists all the way to my shoulders. My upper arms are extremely painful to touch. Getting my blood pressure checked is excruciating. I was diagnosed first with lymphedema but my massage therapist said she was sure i actually had lipedema. That was in 2003. I've been trying compression with mixed success. Some is just too painful to wear. I'd love to have a consultation for surgery. I really wish it could be covered by insurance. I hope to do a consultation soon.

I am so very worried about this, now that I’ve heard of lipedemia. -I am having several areas liposuctioned with a revision tummy tuck as well, so I definitely expect to be swollen in many regions for several months, no doubt. Most insurance in vUSA will not pay for this. I spoke to a lawyer in California where it is covered. He said his firm had lawyers working on this in other states. I have heard of 1 lady in NY who fought with her insurance Co and eventually they paid for her surgery. There are other complications with lipedema, it is a systematic disease and should be covered for women with this.

Short answer is yes. Research lympedema. A poorly functioning lymphatic system can cause swelling and fluid retention. Lipedema is diseased fat. Excess fluid leads to further inflammation. If left untreated, the inflammation turns fibrous which leads to more severe swelling.
Jennifer Gilmore for some reason I can’t read the read more part of your answer. I just saw a vascular surgeon this week and he thinks I have Lymphedema but he doesn’t think lipo is a good idea. He said it could make it worse and I have to wear compression stocking max strength the rest of my life!!😭
