Brother, why don't you buy a trickel charger. You have to maintain your bike's battery when it is parked. I use a "Battery Tender", I hook them up with my bikes if I am not using them.

Next time if you have to change battery, unplug negative first then positive (which you did alright) and plug back in reverse order (means positive first and then negative), you attached negative first.
