I love this piece and I am not an orchestral music pro, but am I wrong thinking this execution was barely satisfactory? The percussionists sound hesitant and there is something odd in the brass sections

I agree with your analysis. But keep in mind this is a student orchestra, not full-time professionals. Such loud brass are a nightmare to make sound right, it requires perfect muscular control, so the piece is very demanding. Still a very good amateur performance.
