Australasian crested grebes are wonderful birds, that with their bizarre, but nonetheless elegant displays, their knack for carrying their young on their backs, as well as their intriguing anatomy, are surely some of New Zealand's most distinctive waterbirds. I hope you enjoy.

@@HenrythePaleoGuy I'm getting a bit suspicious too :P It's not an actual separate species, but a subspecies of Crested Grebe - i.e. Podiceps cristatus australis - or, just a Crested Grebe you could call it. Present all over, European, Asian and African continents too However I like your channel. But you would enjoy a subscription to something like BirdsoftheWorld.org - they have species accounts of all 10.700 species and their subspecies, most in good detail. Warm regards-

Very nice! The great crested grebe is a common bird in the Netherlands with over 10.000 pairs if I'm right. You can't really miss it if you know the waters. They look very similar and the young have the typical black and white stripes also. They look and move beautifully but they do keep their distance, unlike the ducks who are not opposed to jumping into your boat if you have some bread.
