How To Make A DIY Modern Platform Bed | Shape And Explore

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 8 ก.พ. 2025
- Today on Shape And Explore I’m making a Modern Platform Bed using dimensional lumber from my local home centre. The idea behind this project was to create a bed that emphasizes the low horizontal lines within my bedroom, to help distract from the low ceilings in my basement apartment. The design features clean straight lines, and is versatile enough to pair well with multiple bedroom layouts and styles.
MATERIALS USED:
2”x12” x10’ X2
2”x6” x8’ X2
2”x8” x10’
2”x4” x8’ X4
1”x3” x8’ x24

WoW Absolutely BEAUTIFUL
I also love simple design like this.
Things made with their own hands are much more pleasant than factory ones.
Great job. I like it.
kvadrat132 Thank you! I agree, making an object or furniture piece that you can use everyday is extremely satisfying!
As they say in my homeland. Things made by the hands of the master are made with a soul and are full of the warmth of his hands.
kvadrat132 That's an awesome saying! I definitely do not consider myself a master, but I hope my pieces still have some warmth and soul in them haha.
Very nice.. Simple and elegant

Andy Thurlow haha, you can't please everyone. I appreciate the support!
I may do this to make a Queen size bed. Or even a king size.
does it weaken the screw holes when he removed for sanding/staining then screw it back together?
Muy bello el trabajo..mi pregunta es la base se ase depende el colchón
Danilo antonio Torres Báez yes, this base was designed specifically for a double sized mattress without a boxspring
nice I like it.
Thank you!
Love the bed. Do you have plans and hardware specs?
I'm currently looking at designs preparing for my own build. I quite like yours minus the headboard.
Wade Wilson Great to hear that you're getting ready for your own build! Haha the low-slung design isn't for everyone, but you can always draw inspiration from several sources and combine the design elects to make something new!
Great vid and love the frame!
Hooter Bear Thank you!
nice work, bro
Max Kazakoff Thanks a lot!
Bro thank you. I will be building this
Moises Aguirre That's so awesome to hear! Good luck with the build, I'd love to see how it goes!
Hi, I like the bed very nice...
Would it be possible to put feet on the bed, would that be structurally sound. If so how many feet would be needed. Cheers
Cool, boy, real cool. Love the credits, too, with rose petals coming down on the pooch;)
Marc Yamaguchi Thanks Marc, just trying to keep things interesting for those who watch until the end!
I really enjoyed your work
Show 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏✌🇧🇷
I just learned about 5 or 6 great tips in this short amount of video 😀👌
You originally had the length at 80” but cut a piece of so it can sit flush. What was the final length? 77.5?
Great job! To hold the headboard are two pieces of 2x4?
Ronny López Thank you! And that’s right, just some 2x4s, that way you can customize the headboard height to suit your needs.
@@ShapeAndExplore yes thanks I get it. I have 1x4s and I was thinking to use them to hold my headboard which is 1x18.. :-o
Great job mate. New subscriber here.👍🏻🇦🇺
BILL MARTIN Thanks for the support 🤙
Cama linda!
Can you list the size of screws you used?
Love it. But can i add height to it ?
frik smith Thanks, this bed was designed specifically with proportions that emphasize the horizontal plane, creating a low / wide piece. If you're looking for a taller bed I would suggest choosing another design.
yes.
Bravo
Сарид Джахангир Thank you!
How are you going to remove the dust from under the bed?
this is so impressive !! looks sick ryan! watch out ikea
Caroline Sierra Thanks Caro! Haha I'm coming for them.
Why do you choose not to over tighten the bolts? Is there a reason for it having to do with the frame being from softwood? Asking because I just made a bed frame my self.
Moises Ramirez Yes, that's exactly why! I found that because I was using a softer wood the washer would just keep pressing into the wood if I tightened the nut too much. I also wanted to leave some room for the wood to expand / contract in different seasons. Hope this helps with your bed build!
@@ShapeAndExplore thank you so much!
Great work mate. New subscription added!
Zamani Shamase Thanks a lot for the support!
I'm putting a farmhouse headboard on it. How to send pics?
Rhonda Bernard That’s awesome, I’d love to see your build! You can send pics to shapeandexplore@gmail.com 👌
Subscribed dude
Ur work is awesome ✌️
wish all Thanks a lot for the support 🤙
I wonder what type of wood is this using?
This is great. I’ve been watching many bed videos. I think this is the one I’ll build.
What was the rough material cost?
What size pocket hole screws should I use for this?
B R A V O .!!!!!!
Admin Admin Thank you!
رائع
How can I get all the list of measurements and materials needed for a king size bet
👍
Nice build brother, tell me i noticed you used pocket holes screws for the corners assembly .......does the bed wobble or rock around or any creeks?
Nature King Thank you! Yes I used pocket hole screws and wood glue for most of the joints, and I haven't experienced any warping or creaking in the joints.
great! thank you again..............
2:27 into the video...How many inches below the rail line did you nail the 2X4's into the side rails?
What is the cost?
I want this bed but I don’t want to make it 😆
Missjen Maybe you could find someone to make it for you haha.
Is there somewhere that I can purchase the step by step instructions from you? I know a few DIY guys on TH-cam have places you can go for something like that. Wasn’t sure if you had anything or not
Unfortunately right now I don't have any plans or step by step instructions available for my projects, but that's something I would like to include in the future! I am working on building a website, and will definitely look at including plans for each project once that is up and running.
Nice..
Is it soft wood.. What kind of wood you use for this project.
Hilal S Yes, I used soft wood for this project. I purchased the wood at my local Home Depot, and it is hard to tell the exact species sometimes, but it is most likely Douglas Fir.
Shape And Explore Thanks for your reply. Actually I like your way.. With this project.
Subscribe because your great job and detail information Mr Ryan, can you tell me tool that you use at 1:06, tq
I have pics of our bed build. How to send?
What did you spend?
just_a_Human I spent about $150 CAD on materials for this project
It may not be elegant but it's crude.
hi sir, I'm also planning to make my own bed when i go back to mycm country.. Can you please tell me what kind of wood you've been using in this project?
thank you!
Nil and Eden I used dimensional lumber from my local Home Depot. Sometimes it's hard to tell exactly what species they stock, but I'm pretty sure I used Douglas Fir for this bed.
i need inf about king size bed ,dimenssion
How much it cost you??
DIKSHANT KAMBLE the total cost of materials for this bed frame was approximately $200 CAD.
@@ShapeAndExplore you could buy one for 150
How can I accomodate the measurements for a queensized bed?
kraziiegurlxz I built this for a Full mattress (54" x 75"). To use this design on a Queen mattress (60" x 80") you could increase the length of the major components. I also added an extra 1.5" around the perimeter of the mattress to give room for bulky sheets.
