This is a story about Polish defense of Wizna. Polish defenders had somewhere between 350 - 700 soldiers, 20 officers, 2 anti-tank guns, 6 light guns, 18 machine pistols, and 24 heavy machine guns. Germans had 42,000 soldiers (yes, this is the correct number of 0s), 350 tanks, 657 heavy cannons, and Luftwaffe support. Polish defenders lasted 3 days. So, Polish defenders were outnumbered 40:1. This battle is called "Polish Thermopylae."

France was supposed to be the best land army in the world at the start of WW2, they also had Belgian and British help and..... They lasted almost as long as Poland who fought alone and we're being attacked by not just Germany but Russia as well. Tragic but fucking inspiring they were able to hold on as long as they did.

The really sad part is it was really the French officers that ruined everything if they had been more competent they likely could have held out for far longer the French wanted to fight but they could never get a good plan going.

The armies, the men on the ground, that is, were fine. The French and British leadership *sucked.* Not as bad as they sucked in WWI, but I also get the impression that a lot of the higher ranking officers pointedly ignored a lot of the lessons from WWI.

Thank you for your great reaction! Have you noticed 40:1 Sabaton History : number 001 (!) Nice, yeh?
I've heard about this battle for the first time from this song. They just taught us about the beginning of wwII at Westerplatte, about the heroic resistence there and then about the September campaigne in the whole, without the details. Polish soldiers fought brave but surrender because of the lack of amunission and the fact Rus..ns attacked from the back and catch and killed over 20 000 Polish officers -about this we didn't learn in afterwar time, the truth was forbidden, To this day Rus..ns call Polish patriots - naz..ts and fas..ts as they can't stand our independance. This Sabaton song 40:1and Uprising were like something refreshing for the real patriots here in Poland, as we still have the legacy of this system in the government.
It would be great to see your reaction on 40: 1 during the concert in Woodstock Poland 2012, and to see something unexpecting. as for the album I would recommend you react to both the english and swedish versions at the same time. the swedish versions are from the perspective of the swedish army and the english version is from a 3rd person perspective so the lyrics change some between the versions. for what order to do them in I would just go in the order of the album, they tend to be in a somewhat cronological order.

I tend to overthink videos by Sabaton, they tend to mean exactly what they say but 40:1 they (Poland) would have lost even at 35:1 meaning I thought they were trying to say something different. But them (Sabaton) saying 40:1 was just a play on the pride of Poland and how it took 40:1 odds to defeat them
