If you get a chance I'd be curious to hear what you sound on a Marmaduke large chamber which is what I'm currently playing. Gives me a big warm vintage sound.
I would have guessed you like the Drake NY resin, Okutsu and Gerber! Sounded like you could easily play all day on the Drake NY! Fantastic play test and beautiful sound on all pieces! The Sakshima Shorty was a wonderful surprise :)
This is a fantastic video, Henrik! You have a real nice tone and are skilled with your phrasing I play a Drake NY 8 with the metal Brass Resonance Chamber. I've always wondered how it compared to the standard hard rubber version and the fully metal version. This video helps me understand that it's tonally in the middle of those two pieces. I also like this video because it shows that mouthpieces with similar characteristics (e.g. medium rollover baffle, large chamber, 110 tip opening) sound quite similar, despite being made by different manufacturers
Think they all sounded great, there's a common factor...A great player with super tonal concept. Important lesson that these factors are super important.
Great review. I love your playing and tonal concept and you have proven that the player creates most of the sound. We start changing reeds and air stream to get the sound in our head to be as close to the sound coming out as possible. You did say you kept the same reed for all and of course ligatures had to fit the mouthpiece. I started on clarinet then went to tenor at 16 years of age so I prefer the feel of metal as well. I have tried other pieces but keep going back to my Otto Links 7* metal and hard rubber, as Dexter was one of my influences for sure. Thanks and once again you sound amazing. Cheers and Merry Christmas to you and your family. Regards Robin Habermehl from Ontario Canada ( Kitchener which is about an hour west of Toronto and two hours northeast of Detroit.
The best ones are those with the thickest sounds that still sounded full and had sufficient volume. My rankings as such: 1. Rafael Navarro Bop Boy 2. Gerbert Vintage Slant 3. Drake Reso The others were either thinner sounding and/or had more buzz than the above. I like a touch of buzz but not too much.
I don’t think that there is any “best” mouthpiece. The best is the one that fits me. This is a “trying out” product. I don’t think there is any relationship between price and performance either. But great playing on all of them.
Great demonstration, these are all great straight ahead pieces. In my personal opinion you sounded best and most at ease on the Drake NY Jazz metal, the Drake reso chamber and the Sakshama Shorty ( Custom Z not far behind). I was wondering if you could comment on the mouthpiece feedback you experienced from the player's perspective in an acoustic setting -without listening to yourself through headphone monitors? I find that some mouthpiece have that intangible "fun factor" where you just hear yourself play, without having to resort to monitors or an acoustic reflector.
Thank you. Yes, that would have been great to add next time I do a comparison. Right now I can’t really remember the feedback other then some had more resistance then other and some felt more free blowing. For me I could easily play any of the mouthpieces in the clip. They are all great but my favorites are Gerber, Drake and Sakshama. All the best/Henrik
The best mouthpiece demos on the web by a wonderful tenor player. Thank You
Thank you for your kind words. All the best, Henrik
Morgan Fry reso 8 .110" was incredible sound!!!!!
Love these videos. They're the best mouthpiece comparisons I have ever seen. Thank you.
Thank you 🙂
"It Could Happen To You" chord changes on "Fried Bananas" key of Concert Eb
i loved all the 3 slant mouthpieces with 110 facings

That Gottzu smoked em all
They all sound good, but the Gottsu just sounds a lot fuller than the rest.

Tack så mycket!
You sound great - I liked the drake metal best.
liked the gerber supreme of the drakes best
What mic are you using to record?
@@ViewFromTheBoat it’s a German high end microphone, Microtech-gefell M930
The metal NY Jazz is not listed on Drakes website
It was there before, maybe you have to special order it now.
WOW!!!
Plays concert Bb scale
on Bb tenor the scale a regular C scale.
Dude you need to check the transcript 7.48 in....
