  • How good is the West Coast on a good day? We hunted some new country exploring up high along some West Coast tops. Sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery New Zealand has to offer and check out this old mine! It's unbelievable people used to work up there, they'd be a tough breed that's for sure... Does anyone know any more about the old mines on the coast? If so leave a comment below, we'd love to learn more!

      @@southislandriflewalkers5545 .17 is getting light unless rabbits etc. Goats can hold their lead at times & while plenty have been shot plenty with a .22 some of them would have preferred a .223 etc. And you might get a surprise encounter a heavier calibre like .223 up will help with there.
      Some stuff has been recorded about the mining there, can't recall the publication (dementia sucks but keep meeting new people...). Seem to recall the gear is for the aerial ropeway that transported the mineral down.

    Epic country, been meaning to get up in that area so awesome to see some good quality footage of it! FYI - serpentine is one of the minerals mined for Asbestos fibers, so if you're ever out near a serpentine mine again, I don't recommend scratching around in it too much (unless you want cancer...). Nice vid :)

    You boy's need a sponsorship from that new plastic case ammo company that's 30% lighter so you can carry that many more rounds per trip for eradication.

    • @johnmead8437
      @johnmead8437 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eradication has a definition. So does control. And then there is rec hunting, which is all good unless where control is being done, for the same reason getting into an area and finding it has been partly shot up can irritate.

      @craigperry7376 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are good practice shooting for the novice hunters.I shot a lot as a young fellow in the 70’s when the intense effort from helicopters in Marlborough, had made seeing a handy deer near on impossible. I used a 303 with open sights so had to learn stalking skills & good shot placement. A plus from any hunt was a huge set of billy goat horns to hang on the wall.

      @@southislandriflewalkers5545 Try doing actual meaningful control, not just shooting a few and educating those too good. They are really sharp once wised up, hence their distribution and persistence, they need re-eradicating far too often..

      @@southislandriflewalkers5545 Nothing wrong with leaving it for fertilizer. Some species it's preferable to get some out, reality is some make a lot of effort for some really rubbish meat. Don't condone wasting major venison due to periodic commercial meat recovery, Other species are otherwise worthless so personal values affect recovery choices.
