- Route guide to Ranger Bivouac in the Arthurs Pass region of the Southern Alps of New Zealand; welcome to Backcountry Bivs. We set off on a weekend hunt up to Ranger Biv above the Poulter River.
New Zealand is home to a unique network of public huts and bivouacs scattered across our large amount of public land. Some of these huts are very popular, seeing plenty of outdoors enthusiasts keen to explore and enjoy our beautiful backcountry. But some of these huts and bivs are a bit harder to reach - they don't see many people and require a well planned trip and a few days to reach. The purpose of this series is to explore into these hidden gems, showing you how to get there, what issues you might encounter and how long you'll need to make the trip. As well as showcasing our adventures along the way. Sit back and enjoy, and please consider subscribing if you enjoy the content.

GIVEAWAY details:
In this episode we are giving away a Ledlenser HF6R core headtorch. A good headtorch is a game changer in the mountains. More often than not we end up late back to camp as we want to squeeze all the daylight we can out of an evening hunt. Ledlensers give us the confidence to stay out longer knowing we'll be able to find our way home.
To get in the draw spot the codeword during the video and head over to our social media accounts linked below and comment the codeword on the giveaway post from Monday the 29th of January. You'll see a photo of the headtorch in the post.
From there, like or follow our page and LedlenserNZ and you're in the draw to win!

Done good fella's.Enjoying this series. The wee biv was a classic but by no means the worst I've seen in or the worst you blokes will encounter.Keep up the great workðð
Thanks mate! Such a cool spot, sounds like it's had a bit of work since
Another great video guys, thanks for sharing!
Loving the new series, guys! Its definitely making me jealous. As a cantab who grew up doing this, it makes me homesick for sure!
I see you had a couple of guests with you in the biv AFTERDARK. ð·ïļðļïļ. Another awesome vid boys!
I really enjoy all your Videos , you guys are inspirational. Hope to see you on the hill someday
Cheers mate!
This one has been on the list for a wee while, good to see what the access is like :)
That one jumped right out it's skin haha! Also 3 more deer than I've seen on public land in tasman area so far haha keep smashing ðŠ
Love the idea/series lads!
Wicked lads this is awesome, love ya work!!
love it that 1st deer was me a lot lol to me thanks guys
A great spot by the looks
A wee bit of TLC on the biv, and it'd be a home away from home .... until then a warehouse tarp draped over the roof when in residence haha
It's an OK height for Raddy (and me lol)
Love the mix of hunting, nature, scenery, info and tips, you guys load into your vids top stuff boys ...... aww yeah, and the bloopers are a crack up
Yeah I'd say it would end up being a pretty big job to get it back in good nick, bloody mint spot though. Cheers Bob, glad you're still enjoying them!
Blooper reels ð
How good is this!
Just found your channel this last week. I'm a fair bit older than you lads but hoping to get out there (Canterbury) with my little fella nonetheless, if my knee holds up (skydiving injury). Totally jealous of your exploits! You may have mentioned in a previous video that maybe I haven't yet found, but what rifle, caliber, scope and ammo are you using? I'm just in the process of applying for a FAL and will be hopefully hunting in a year or two. Got a whole heap to learn. Good work lads, keep 'em coming, and thank you.
Hey mate, we've all owned and used a .308 (two of us have a Tikka t3 and one sako a7). Been shooting 150g game heads on those, great for all our big game out to about 300 meters. Had a Leopold 3x9 on it, but recently upgraded to a vortex 3x15.
We also have a Hardy Rifles .300 prc for longer range hunting, very nice gun ð
please please do the stoney creek hut in otago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That new Casey hut is flash and in a better spot, went in for a look a couple winters ago, the old one was a nice Lockwood until it burnt down, those old bivs are cool, be good if the backcountry trust or DOC would give it a tidy up, be worth spending a couple days looking around up there in Feb
Yeah it's a nice hut! We spoke to DoC about it, sounds like they don't have the funding to maintain all of the old deer cullers huts. They've handed a lot of it over to groups like permolat, backcountry trust and any local groups that want to look after them. Shows the value that these groups offer ð
great videos
Didnn't think you legends would be scared of bush, after dark ðð
Hahaha that's when bigfoot starts roaming ð Been lost after dark in similar bush to that a couple of times, pretty easy to get disorientated ð
I'm keen on the headlight competition but don't have Facebook or social media accounts. Any other way of participating?
We'll chuck your comment in the draw ðŧ
Jeez you guys aren't scared of carrying big packs...
Cleeter!!!
