Its all for marketing sake. 90% of driving in these will be about driving kids around and do grocery shopping. Buyers who buy these buy it because of name and exclusivity not because of power or how sporty it is. Same rule applies to G class, Bentayga, Cullinan, RR and others, they are never pushed or driven for what they are made but bought as a luxury status.
@@OmgiamsotriggeredWell unlike those cars, this isn't actually all that comfortable to drive. And bmw seems to be more fixed towards the performance marketing rather than the luxury.
BMW woudnt make it 3 tons if they cared about performance that much. They are pushing performance paper numbers, which is what sells the car. How many times u seen G63 amg being pushed to its limits? Its a hot soccer mom vehicle for getgo grocery shopping lmao, this will be no different.@@your-neighbor
The engineers who tuned the suspension and ride must've groaned when the designers put 23' wheels on it.

Am I the only one shocked at the price of new cars. 1/2 million drive away for an unreliable German that will depreciate at the rate of a Sydney house deposit in 1 year.

Yet some Japanese cars which everyone even hyped shitboxes to death, still getting silly unreliable problems.
BMWs nowadays are more reliable than korean cars and all except two Japanese makers. You also lied on the cost price.

13:40 $300k and no button or lever to drop the second row from the boot area? 😳This is unforgivable at this price point. An epic own goal if I have ever seen one.
Is it adaptive dampers with coil springs or air suspension I don’t recall Paul specifying?
Good review as always, I have been told the sound system in the IX and it I7 has way more speakers and meant to be way better, be good to do a comparison when the Model 3 Highland Long range drops, it has 17 speakers and is meant to be a step above the old one.

I have seen a number of these around the streets, made me realise I might be the only one facing economic pressure. Seems there are quite a number of people thriving out there and buying these. Other than that it’s a fantastic car, and you did a great job reviewing it Paul. I do wish physical manual temperature nobs would come back on bmw.
They haven’t sold many of these so it’s unusual to even see one. It does look similar to the popular electric ix though.

$300,000 is genuinely just too excessive for an suv. And it doesn't even have the most healthy performance suv numbers either.
Trying to figure out whether the Ssangyong Stavic or this is uglier 😂
The fact that it's an M-only vehicle, but it's slower than the X5M that it gets its engine and platform from despite the addition of the hybrid system and the accompanying power boost, is an absolute disgrace to the M badge. That's to say nothing of the frankly hideous exterior styling either, luckily they seem to be selling quite poorly because I am yet to see one outside of a BMW dealership. The lovely interior seems almost wasted on that exterior too.
It's over 300kg heavier because of the plug in hybrid system 😂
Aesthetics wise is clear that is focused to sell well in other markets like China

I love this. Anyone who doesn't understand that this competes with the Bentayga and Urus is missing the point. It's meant to be slightly crazy. It's the Balenciaga bag of cars.
This is probably the best review I’ve seen on this video. I was already starting to like the front end and love the interior but I now actually like the vehicle and would consider it. Not at the sticker price though! 😂

I know one owner who switched the rims out for BMW 21" rims. The ride is still firm but way more comfortable than the original 23" wheels.

I love this car, everyime I see it I don't keep my eyes away from it till it disappears. I would like to take it off road so I would like it fitted with 19 or 20 inch tyres and spare wheel on the roof.

I was all set to buy one until I found out it only does 34 km an hour in reverse. Such a shame.

As nice as it sounds I have to say a Holden 6L V8 with an aftermarket aftermarket exhaust still sounds better, maybe I’m just biased.

I think you’d find a Cayenne GT would be usefully quicker and would absolutely smoke it when you get to a corner and I the a Bentayga W12 would give it a run for it’s money in a straight line and probably not disgraced in the corners given it’s more luxury orientated truck. Bottom line I personally think it’s been left in the oven too long and the are better solutions to sports/luxury super SUV’s out there.. plus it’s super fugly.

I saw one of these in the dealership the other day and it just looked sinister in black. I cannot understand why anyone would buy one and spending that much , I don't think they would be thinking of economy because it's a hybrid. Just does not make sense. You can be sure that nobody will let you into traffic.
Embarrassing price point, if you told the average punter you spent $300k on a BMW SUV they would laugh. I don’t hate the styling from an SUV point of view but that’s not turning heads in the wild and its value will half in a couple of years. I don’t get it but people must buy them so what do I know.
I love BMW and I don’t get this vehicle. A bmw x5 M comp is faster both in a straight line and on track… for half the price. And it’s not like someone will tell you cheaped out for having an x5 M comp. Yeah just confused by this move.
22" wheels won't transform the XM from uncomfortable to comfortable. If it is trying to attract the extroverted fashion forward among us then the ride should be comfortable. If XM is made for gear heads then don't give us Harry Styles styling.

Like it's chuckiness. But too many unnecessary angles in body panels. Gold trimmings are out right ugly. BMW can only play catch up with it's current interior design. Even some Asian makes looks nicer inside

An x5 m comp is faster… both in a straight line and on a track… I just don’t understand. But I love BMW and will Stan them forever but I’d just get the x5 m comp for half the price? Which at no point will someone say I cheaped out 😅
When we talk about M suv, it’s just about M car feeling SUV. Or I would say a family car for M car driver. No one will take a X5/6M to track, I never saw it on track, so I believe it make no sense to compare track performance between M SUV’s. XM is just a perfectly balanced M Suv solution. It feels like a M on road, good interior style, good V8 sound and good pure electric range.
@@seattle0099 I’ve driven them, the x5 m comp is literally… LITERALLY a second and a half faster and rides much smoother because for some odd reasons the XM doesn’t have air suspension? Yeah I stand by what I said. Get an x5 m comp or hell get an x5 m60i that’s like perfect and STILL FASTER THAN THIS?!😅 makes no sense.

@@LafemmebearMusic as you’ve compared which is faster in straight or track, my point is when you compare the performance, why not simply get a proper M car instead of SUV. The M SUV is just a balance of performance and life, so that’s reason why I see X5m has no advantage over XM. I know someone takes X5m to track as well, but does it really make any sense if X5m is 2 seconds faster than XM? The buyer of XM owner could be either no track needs or has separate track car.

The price is a joke for an extremely unreliable car.
That’s not the point. Also BMW is not top ten reliability brand… really go check, they have actually really gotten their act together. Last 7 years they have steadily moved up the reliability level. But just a reminder you buy an expensive car , it has expensive parts to repair. Even my Lexus while it’s very reliable, the brakes are still 1100 like, yeah that’s maintenance cost not reliability costs, I just hope we understand the difference ✌🏾☺️

That XM is an abomination. I don’t know what’s happening to Bmw’ designs lately. After being a bmw owner all my life, and an X-series owner of 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations, I’m leaning to Mercedes for my next replacement.
