@@ron.hertzberg You're right when you say Kevin Costner destroyed the role of Jonathon Kent. Or more accurately, the disgraceful writing and directing absolutely destroyed that character in every way as it couldn't have been further from who Jonathon Kent is and always has been. He was more like a Bizarro Jonathon Kent. It's no wonder that ''Clark'' was so fucked up and lacking in any heroic qualities.

Jonathan Kent’s character was acted out so well John Schneiender is the goat. Smallville is such an amazing series they sure don’t make shows like they did back in them days. Game of Thugs- I agree with you. I think John Schneider gave class to the Show like Alec Guiness gave class to Star Wars. I think the Father/Son relationship as well as the Husband/Wife Relationship was very good in Smallville. I just think he played Jonathan Kent is a Working Class Everyman who had to deal with the fact that his son was different and had extraordinary powers. ONce, he left the show, lost interest in it andI basically stopped watching it.

Jonathan Kent was the first role I saw John Schneider play, and I became a huge fan of his after that! Jonathan was my favourite character in the show. I liked all the other characters too, but I found him to be so inspirational. My favourite episode with him in it was S03E02, when he took on Clark's powers to save Clark from the dark side... even if that was when Jonathan developed his heart condition.

Whether it was called Metropolis or Superman (where they let Tom Welling wear the cape etc)
The whole “blur” storyline was overplayed and it felt like such a different show - BUT a show that was held back by “Smallville.”

Jonathan in most media is very surface level giving platitudes about how great clark is and what he means to the world. In smallville he's a real person with questions and faults and a strict idea of what makes a man a man. It didn't matter in smallville that clark was the most powerful person on the planet. Jonathan treated him just like a normal kid. When clark got in trouble he got a scolding. When clark did good he was praised. And when clark needed to get his ass kicked Jonathan had no hesitation giving him an asskicking! Jonathan is a man from the heartland. He understood working hard and he instilled that in clark early on making clarks journey to be this beacon of hope believable

I'm definitely one of those "what's going to happen now" types, and I definitely need to stop. I've been this way my whole life. For awhile, trying to deal with lifelong depression in new ways, I tried to just tell myself "it doesn't matter" when something didn't go right. I didn't expect it to sink in the way it did, but that sort of reinforcement absolutely does. There's a chemical component I can't really do much about (antidepressants have made it so much worse across my life), but he's right. There's a mental component, too, and we are (I am) responsible for how choose to see and interact with the world.

the chris reeve superman movies are great, but he might be right when he says smallville might be the best part of the mythos (at least on screen.), it's at least not something i have arguments against without pulling animation into it

I watched Smallville with my kids & recently introduced my grandkids to it. My granddaughter comes home from school wanting to watch the next episode. Good lessons for this crazy time.

John Schneider did a good job playing Clark Kent's adopted father from the Smallville series

Do you fans see the similarities between Bo & Uncle Jesse / Clark & Johnathan.. Many of the other actors on Dukes have said Uncle Jesse held the show together... Johnathan did the same thing 😂

John turned down offers to be on Smallville but accepted a role as a porn star on Nip and Tuck. I think I'd rather play Lex Luthor that play a porn star. Imagine the horrifying things vivid dreaming kids will dream about that! I am glad John took the role. He was a great Jonathon Kent. Smallville amplified the Superman Legend. Bigtime. And Johns positive attitude towards life is VERY inspiring a so true. Michael too.
