    *Budget tips for anyone who don't have the time to actually meal prep*
    I don't have consistent work hours, which means there's very little routine in my life - and that I don't have the possibility to meal prep each week or go around to different stores to get the best deals on food. So what I do is this:
    1. Find a store with a great returns/points program and good weekly discounts and shop there. Also, find a farm-to-shelf-farmers'-market-outdoors-self-serve-type place to buy produce, and compare prices.
    2. Shop first, plan later. I will go to the store, find the deals on produce, meats, dairy, etc. And then plan my menu around that. Cheap chicken? I'm getting two for roasting. Good deal on broccoli and bell pepper? Wok for dinner, then.
    3. I live alone, but I almost never cook just one serving. If I'm taking the time to cook food, then I'm cooking 4-8 servings of that meal, and freeze it in ready-to-go containers. This allows me to buy larger quantities of what's affordable, AND to have lunches on hand for work, so I don't eat out six times a week.
    4. I will REFUSE to throw away anything that's edible. Anything that's "left over" goes in the freezer for a different day. Even if we're talking about three broccoli florets that I didn't manage to eat, I'll freeze them and grab them on a night when I'm short on time and need a quick dinner.
    5. This means I will also plan my menu around what's about to expire in my fridge.
    6. Bike, don't drive. I live in a rather small university town, and I realise this is impossible if you're shopping for more than one, or if you live in a place with long distances between shops. But since I DO live alone, I will bike to wherever I need to shop. This ensures I don't save $2 on the item I'm buying in a different store but simultaneously spend $3 on the gas to get there.

    I sauteed my green beans with onion, sea salt, pepper and a little garlic. Yummy! I also put together my overnight oats (minus the liguid) in some jars. I put my liquid in and microwave it when I get to work.

    Fab meal prep with a lot of meals that I make myself quite a lot. I just did a week's worth of meals, snacks and desserts yesterday in two hours. I don't know what I'd do without meal prep, to be honest, considering my work hours!

    Those potatoes look SO GOOD!! Where did you get your salt and pepper container? I really like that it has a lid, most salt containers like that are open and I always worry that stuff will get in it.

    Hi! May I ask for the breakfast egg muffins, for the remaining egg muffins for the rest of the remaining days, do we place it in the refrigerator and heat it up again in a microwave again? And how long can the egg muffin remain fresh? Thanks! :)

      patty 8873 Hi I've read that it's best to cook rice by the pasta method. Rice when it grows absorbs arsenic and the best to get rid of most of it to cook it that way.

    Great video, thanks a lot for sharing your ideas and tips ! Why do you prefer frozen vegetables over canned ones ? Is there a health reason or is it just more practical ? Thanks :)

    • @shelby9569
      @shelby9569 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheHappynouille frozen vegetables are flash frozen at peak ripeness with optimal nutrients. Also canned vegetables usually are stored in a syrup with added salt which isn't good for you. Some cans also leach bpa into the food as well. These are the usual reasons that frozen veggies are better.

    • @paolacevallos9106
      @paolacevallos9106 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Eileen Lai Nope. She explains it in the video and my dietitian says the same thing. Frozen veggies are actually ripe when harvested meaning they're more rich in nutrients than fresh produce.

    • @wdbreezy
      @wdbreezy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eileen Lai. pre-packaged foods are unhealthy, but that wouldn't apply to veggies that are quick frozen without additives.

    • @02ladydamned
      @02ladydamned 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      frozen fruit and veg can actually be healthier than fresh sometimes. Freezing soon after harvesting will lock in the nutrients. But fresh veg is harvested, transported and then kept in the open air on displays - in all that extra time the nutrients are breaking down. It really depends on the brand and when they freeze though

    • @jamiecee4960
      @jamiecee4960 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eileen Lai Nope. They are more fresh. And sometimes more nutricous. They take the veggies from the farm to wash. Then freeze.
