The root file manager shortcut is for Thunar instead of PCManFM probably because PCManFM doesn't have the 'run as root' option anymore. You can manually add it back, but I guess the devs found it too big a hassle.

Thanks for giving Archcraft OS another look. I haven't really been a big fan of openbox. Not a detractor either, just always felt kinda "meh" obout it. It's right in the middle -- like either too much or too little -- if that makes sense. Archcraft got this right, IMO. This is THE best 'out of the box' openbox setup I've ever seen. There's really nothing I'd change aside from typical installing packages. I'm keeping this on on the machine for a while.

@DistroTube I'm still on the fence - I've followed your video step by step as well as following along with the official docs and installing in a Virtualbox VM on Windows 10 is giving me major issues on 5/30/2021. New user isn't created after using Calamare install. Terminal (Allacritty) won't launch in default user session because it isn't installed. "Expert" installer won't launch from openbox WM in liveuser session. I'm really anxious to give this a shot but I'm still not sold. I've tried 4 fresh ISO downloads and have attempted to install this coming up on 7 times now. There's always a real chance it's something I'm doing, but at this point I'm pretty positive it's not me. I'm really not sure what I could be doing wrong.

I have wanted to try bspwm for a while. Good to know that there is a preconfigured distro, because normaly you have to install separate keyboard deamon to listen to your keybindings so it can be channeled to bcspw client program.

The calamares installer is a big upgrade from the ncurses one. Super+c for close window? I bet I'd hit that by mistake when Ctrl+c to copy.

    • @GreyDeathVaccine
      @GreyDeathVaccine 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I use i3wm tiling window manager exclusively. Default keybinding for closing window is Win+Shift+Q. I changed for Win+Q because lots of applications applications have long had the Ctrl + Q keybinding. So both Win + Q and Ctrl + Q are really close each other and it doesn't conflict too much with my muscle memory :-)

It's there a way to modify the folder based system which is used for finding end running programs? When I click the right button I would like the apps which I commonly use to be displayed and Below those have the folders showing all available apps. Even better I would like to have icons for each of the commonly used apps to be displayed upon clicking the right Mouse button and then have an option to go into a folder system for all apps which would be similar to Windows 10.

First time running Windows i got too distracted playing minesweeper and solitaire. Having a personalized look drew me into enjoying my work environment and i got more accomplished (after the customization was finished that is 😏)

One question is about description, where you list software that you use.

8:45 minor pedantic note: It doesn't set your 'dt' user and the sudo user's password to the same thing - sudo makes you use your user's password. What that checkmark does is set the 'root' user (logged in by with `su`) to the same one you set there.

Well, I have Midori installed (as well as badwoolf (AUR)). And yes my main browser is firefox, but if I don't have it opened and I just want to very quickly search the meaning of something and close the browser, I would launch any of the two aforementioned. Because in my (very) old core2duo laptop, even with SSD, firefox takes about 5-6 seconds to launch (at least). So, for a lightweight distro based on openbox, it could make sense.
The thing I hate about midori... is that "quickview" on new tabs that can't be removed 😤😤😤, that shows where you have browsed before. I really hate that, and thats why usually I would go to badwolf to just search something really quick

I hope the creator of Archcraft read these lines here since I was not able to message him directly on his webpage. Choosing BTRFS as default file system is a brave move however many normal users still prefer EXT4 due to simplicity. BTRFS is hell complex and it has various uses on production workstations and servers, for a normal user setup I believe there is still no need for such a complex filesystem, EXT4 can do the job well. Probably he can add EXT4 to installation process for one to choose. However, his BTRFS setup disables swap. I wish he could fix this as well. I was not able to add a minimal swap to fstab. thanks.

    • @keilmillerjr9701

The only true "lightweight" distros that I can actually use day-to-day on my crappy laptop are Debian and arch, both installed from scratch
On Arch right now, 150Megs of ram used at boot and no CPU usage, or 190Megs and a tiny bit of CPU if I want everything I could want (animated wallpaper, background apps like a graphical clipboard manager, screenshot utility, compositor, polyckit agent), with nice, light and fast dmenu (fully POSIX-compliant and ran with dash) scripts to access programs, settings, musics, wallpapers, power menu, animated wallpapers, power saving, a one-click full desktop-theming based on the current wallpaper, screen recording, etc...., a well-configured window manager (Qtile) started without any login manager, etc
Very light, very fast, very usable, very customizable, no bloat, and the setup is the exact same on Debian, tho with some changes to some configs
Other super-lightweight Linux distros (mostly based on already existing ones) don't fit my needs, and I learned the hard way that if I wanted something to fit my needs, I'll need to make it myself
Which was easier than I thought...

@@bjronthompson1438 ah it failed. Such a classic. I never installed distro without errors and ended up wasting hours upon hours mixing weird shit and somehow fucked by grub

DT, i think you're too harsh on the developer. Midori is a nice distro-specific customization, even though he coule have installed firefox in parallel

I do believe zsh is pronounced "zish"... or have I been wrong all along?
    I need dev friends.
