Thanks for taking the time to post your informational video on adapters for the 18V Dewalts new battery system. I wish Dewalt just left a compatible platform in place instead of changing the whole archetecture. I bought two 18V drill/drivers at a thrift store for $10. But now I'm having to sort out the battery & charging issue. Your video has helped with that piece of the puzzle. Thanks.

Thanks for the video. I had one adapter catch fire while I was using it with my circular saw and it even destroyed the battery. It was the Dewalt model. I took it apart and it contained all the electronics. The newer li-ion tools have the battery protection electronics built into the handle that manage the battery. When you use an adapter on an old style tool, the adapter has to have the circuitry. If you look at the connection on the adapter to the li-ion battery, the protection circuit uses the two additional smaller pins in the center. I just received a couple of cheaper adapters I ordered from China and they don't have the electronics, they just have the two connections passing thru. (don't know what I was thinking when I ordered them). I have two of the true Dewalt adapters and I use them all the time, they're great. I thought about the small current drain and wondered that it must also exist when a standard li-ion battery is attached to a newer tool. I leave mine on all the time and haven't noticed any problems. Maybe it's from the USB charger port, I don't have that on any of mine. I also bought a new li-ion circular saw now and don't use the old one. It was a big expense when the adapter and the battery burned up, I don't need to repeat that. I wondered if it might have pulled too much current for the adapter maybe. Everything is good now though. had the red one when using the sawzall it would pop out, the usb port will let you drain the battery dead to the point it kills it. also dropped my drill 2 feet with it on and it broke, have replaced it with dewalt adapter
I watched one of your other videos where you commented that the DeWalt adapter was not compatible with the DCS370 bandsaw. Did the adapter not fit in the bandsaw? Are any of the other adapters compatible with the bandsaw? I have the DCS370 and was trying to avoid buying more nicad batteries, this seemed like a great alternative.
According to the information I had when making the video it specifically stated that the adapter would not work with your bandsaw. I do not own that tool, so I cannot verify the statement, but since it was coming from Dewalt, I believe it to be correct. It did not give a reason why. I checked the buyer comments on Amazon for the adapter and saw one person said it does work. Don't know whether to believe it or not. If you end up trying it, let us know. Thanks.
@@FixItDepot thank you for the quick response. I saw the same video on Amazon for the gentleman said he had to modify the external tabs to make it fit in the band saw. I am going to order a third party adapter that fits in the DeWalt tools but allows you to use Makita lithium ion batteries. Once I have tried it, I will post my results. Thanks again
I beg to differ on charging the slide batteries on the old post type charger, it does work, I've done a few, FYI it did a 6 amp in an hour and a half, when full the charger showed it was full with a solid red light, also FYI,all the slide batteries actually have a circuit inside to charge the batteries, the only thing is that the heat sensor won't work, so keep an eye out while charging on an old type charge, Lithium can catch on fire, always keep the charger on a concrete floor with nothing close to it, and do this AT YOUR WON RISK.
I mentioned in the video the Waitley and Dewalt adapters will not fit into the old charger. This is because they do not recommend charging the 20 volt lithium battery on the old Ni-cad charger. The other adapter was a Biswaye and it does fit into the old charger and will charge the battery, but again shouldn't be used because of the fire risk. Sounds like you understand the risk and are willing to use it. I am assuming that if you have a 20 volt lithium battery, you probably have the charger for it too. i would just use the 20 volt Lithium charger and avoid the fire risk. You are correct, Lithium fires are not good. Thanks for watching and sharing the info.
@@FixItDepot for starters you are correct that you shouldn't charge Lithiums on any ni-cad or ni-mh batteries, but I can say as I do electronics for over 25 years that ALL lithium-ion batteries have a special charging circuit inside them, I've also charge them on a variable power supply and it works, kind regards.
@@courierton9217 Okay, so let me tell you my experience, I do charge milwalkee batteries on a special charger, they don't always work, it's because of the charging circuit. Now you should be able to as all lithium batteries as far as I know have a built in charging circuit, BUT I must tell you, they also have a temperature sensor which is connected and detected by the charger, this is very important. do this at your own risk, you can charge it but stay next to it at ALL times and keep feeling the battery so it's not getting over heated, I didn't have any problems with overheating on mine.
If you're only using the 20v batteries, why would you want to remove the adapter each time, leave the adapter in the drill, and just remove the battery? Simply.
Oh, and I've also opened one up and there is no circuit in there for the cheap chinese one so not sure about the others, it had just straight wires, FYI, if you buy a really cheap one with thin wires they might melt and burn, I don't know why they ahve a warning label to say do not leave the battery on the adapter on my chinese one.
The reason for the warning mentioned was because some adapters have a monitoring circuit and will drain the battery if left on the adapter. If there was no monitoring circuit in the charger then the label doesn't make sense. Maybe they want us to think we are getting a better adapter than we are. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
I bought the DeWalt adapter. Total fail. I can't get the adapter off the grinder and I can't get the battery off. All 3 stuck together. Even had a more muscular guy try. Think they are permanently bonded together.
Most of us donate our time to make videos to help people. We are not professional filmmakers and don’t have a lot of special equipment. You probably don’t realize the amount of work and editing that is done to streamline the material too. It is frustrating to get a negative feedback because you expect perfection. Call Netflix and see if they will make your next video for you.

I have old style DeWalt lithium ion 18v battery charger. Can I charge the new 18v DeWalt lithium ion battery on that charger with the adapter?

Milwaukee batteries can be used in the red adapter along with 20 volt dewalt batteries

The PLA used in the adapter makes it swell! Over time I've had to hit certain points with my dremel.

That is the main complaint I had about their adapter. Try twisting it a little. Desalt needs to do better and fix the design of it.
Unless you're in a hurry, remove the battery from the Dewalt adapter first and the adapter removes easily from the tool.
