Asks foreman who favorite race driver is. Answer: Parnelli Jones. Goes to meet Parnelli Jones next week. Takes office boy instead of foreman. Go figure.
As of March 2023 this car is listed on Hemmings Motor News for $48,900. You couldn't buy all those parts for that price today. Then add all the skilled labor involved in the project. Somebody is getting a heck of a deal.
Car looks great..I have a 66 mustang gt with a z460 Ford racing engine..so I can tell you they are beasts...mr.Jones seemed liked such a classy guy..I'd love to hang out with him and hear his stories
The show is interesting, but at the end of the day what do you have? You have a rebuilt car from the late 60's for example in 2020. It'll require upkeep and parts and servicing will be a pain. I don't think I'd want one.
One could speculate a couple of different reasons. Fatigue, biggest factor for mistakes. Add that to "oh, I thought you did that..." and you get a good environment for the simplest mistakes. Do something right and no one can remember it. Do something wrong and no one can forget it.
His cars always look nice, but you wonder how much of it is for show. They painted the car before they had cleaned it underneath, and he never does anything for the handling, especially since they have stuck in that big power engine, and they have kept the cart springs at the back. I guess no one is ever going to really drive it let alone race it, it's just for the odd burn out straight line blast and most of all for looking at.
diecast jam I couldn't believe they painted it before cleaning it. Shitty job I'd say but then it seems that was the way they did all of the cars in the episodes I've seen.
If you say you want $45,000 up to $50,000+ then don't take your gold to cheap auctions!!!! I mean??? seen the effort the sweat you and your team put into these builds specially when is a collectible and rare cars or where they only made just a few world wide!!!!
You can spend $100,000 on a build.. But- if you rush it into 4 weeks-- You end up with a piece of crap, that isnt worth 10 percent, of that 100K.. I wouldnt buy anything off these guys !!
You are 100% correct! Had that same conversation with my body man last week! This thing is gonna be problems left and right for the next owner, what a night mare!
He's claiming 280 hrs labor @ $100 an hour, which is what he'd bill a customer. His costs would be more like $20/hr. And a lot of his parts would also be marked up. So more like $6k in labor, $3-4k in parts and his rent and other costs. So, $20k tops.
Did they drive an unknown, untested car with drum brakes and no reg/insurance when they could have simply trailered it? Cleaning it after paint makes no sense, unless they slipped it into the paint booth only when they had a chance. Paint guy has an excuse for everything, not much of a self-starter. Great for a micro manager boss, but who else needs a hand-holder? Considering the car drove in, just cleaning the FE drivetrain and throwing on chrome dress up with an Edelbrock head/cam/intake setup would have done perfectly fine and saved time/money--and looked period-correct. You want to get a car flipped in 3 weeks? Always buy a Chevy and put in a 350 or an LS--everything you need, practically sits on an auto parts store shelf somewhere, ready to go. Paint it resale red and slap on chrome rims with a loud exhaust, you can practically toss it together with stuff cheap off eBay or FB marketplace and it still will sell any day of the week.
NO. They would've used a bucket, but nothing like what a modern NASCAR uses. NOBODY raced on a bench seat by 1964, save maybe your local 3/8 mile dirt bullring.
their aint nothing that will beat a big block ford they are the best engines built .and I should know I have a f-250 that just turned 450,000 and has never been apart .
Yeah it was interesting when these cars were back in the NASCAR races now these days people are watching NASCAR just to hope there's a wreck and that it's coo
@@giggidygiggidy4884 : I've now watched most of this series and you're right. But technically... Chris is the parts boy. I mean, one of his responsibilities is ordering parts for the cars. In any case, they could treat him better but @Peter Wild summed it up the best.
Wheels look like crap. If you're going to build a tribute stock car, the wheels should be the first thing that looks right. And that 385 series engine (429-460) was a dumb move, found that out when nothing fit. You took out a FE, why not doll it up a little and put it back in? Car will never be raced anyway and if it was, not hard to make serious hp from a FE, just ask Parnelli.
I cant believe that this garage just does not have a 4 post lift, all of the guys are scrambeling around on the floor, its unsafe and just dam awquard getting stuff on and off the cars.
A number of reasons. It makes good TV. (The proof? We're all here watching it and talking about it.) As cliff pointed out... It's the drama. Everyone loves a good 'will they, won't they' thing going on. That and it makes the team look better. Really, they're just a bunch of standard mechanics doing a job. Add a little suspense and drama though and boom, mechanic geniuses doing what no others can... Again, it makes 'feel good TV'. When you stop and think about it, of course it's stupid; every piece of TV programming apart from factual documentaries ARE stupid, but they pass the time which is all they're designed to do. That and to keep your eyes glued to the screen for long enough that the sneaky advertising companies might just be able to stuff an add or two down your throat while you're 'zoned out'. It works... And the industry generates billions...
I wonder just how much money chris has cost berry by getting the wrong parts finding parts for a car is not rocket science chris just seems to make it way harder than it should be.
this shows alot off bs. like theyd leave buying a shell the last minute every episode. its a tv show, the cars should allready be lined up for each episode. they use the same bs excuse for dramatic effect. and its alays the same type of build. boring and lame.
If your such a great car maker & custom designer & build. Everyone knows you fucking do not paint a car before doing all the mechanical work done first. Not the other way around. I know this from taking paint & body work in high school for 3 years. Plus I've owned my own custome body & paint for car shows for over 20 years. I've done car shows. And that also tells me that Barry is not who he says he is. Its all bull shit and no one does a high dollar auctions without painting the frame first. But here it shows that's not done. Cause if it were then the front suspension would not be ripped apart after the fucming car has been painted.
RIP to Parnelli, as soon as I heard the news I had to rewatch this episode
What a cracking car. That 460 sounds awesome; nice deep growl. Love it
Chris never manage to get parts on time and always design same wheel for every car ohhh man.... he is so consistent isn't he.
This Mercury is absolutely beautiful, and it has something no chevy will ever have: soul....

Man needs to go to a Barret Jackson auction. REAL money is there.
Too many fees at Barrett
That was a Fun Build... Thanks for Sharing
pet peve DO NOT put 20 or 22 inch wheels on any old classic cars that came with 14 or 15 inch wheels. looks so out of place sick.
yes,tacky
I drove a 1977 Oldsmobile Cutless in the 80s, you can't find one with the original tire size. Totally sick looking.
I think it looks like crap on all cars.

Yes, I would like to purchase a windshield please.
Ok, what color is the car?
Red,white and Blue
Led Zeppelin couldn't have said it better "Communication Breakdown",Barry!
At 31:23 the narrator said build cost was up to $33k. But at 42:32 Barry said he was hoping to get $30k+ for the car. I think the build cost is wrong.
fake show
This whole show is wrong.
I noticed that as well. I got the impression that they filmed things out of sequence so they guessed at the cost or used part of a different episode.
How do these guys not have Hollander or Mitchell interchange manuals? Probably the most valuable tool they could have.
Car looks great..I have a 66 mustang gt with a z460 Ford racing engine..so I can tell you they are beasts...mr.Jones seemed liked such a classy guy..I'd love to hang out with him and hear his stories
Gee, I like this show..
Wish I had the dollars to buy one.
Watching from Australia.

Damn that car sounds nice.
Wait, they painted the car and then steam cleaned it?
When he took photos of that car I was like WOW I haven't seen a digital camera like that in forever.
They need to check with Detroit Steel Wheel Company
Or Stockton Wheel Service. They will build anything custom for you regarding wheels.
How is it a "Professional" Speed Shop doesn't know which way to hook up a solenoid?
One could speculate a couple of different reasons. Fatigue, biggest factor for mistakes. Add that to "oh, I thought you did that..." and you get a good environment for the simplest mistakes. Do something right and no one can remember it. Do something wrong and no one can forget it.
its just for entertainment purposes. for the episode
You're right. They obviously have no idea how to build cars.
I just enjoy to watch other ppl work;-))
First car they could drive back to the shop
His cars always look nice, but you wonder how much of it is for show. IT WILL WORK THE WINDSHIELD IS THE SAME FOR BOTH MODELS

Yes it is.

Nice paint and under the paint is , Bondo.!
They never say if they put alarms on them in any of these kind of programs. I would think that would be essential.

If you pay attention, there is only a couple of scenes that last longer than 2 seconds... Holy shit
holy shit...now I cant stop noticing.
Ah....where did the cars go? All I see is a '64 mercury being transformed into a tribute race car.
Dasyat teamnya👍👍👍
Too much modern stuff in there for me, nice job though. Also, would those seats be correct for a race car?
+turboslag yea correct seats.
NO. They would've used a bucket, but nothing like what a modern NASCAR uses. NOBODY raced on a bench seat by 1964, save maybe your local 3/8 mile dirt bullring.
It was built to be a Street- Driven Tribute..
keep up the good work!
Lol....that old school camera
13:20 lol this women just said she likes getting her hands dirty!
their aint nothing that will beat a big block ford they are the best engines built .and I should know I have a f-250 that just turned 450,000 and has never been apart .
What is the cost of hours ?
2000 dollars for decals ? seriously ?
+EvLSkillz was thinking the same.
EvLSkillz even worse they used truck manifolds on that built engine. Everything seems half assed.
I even paused and went down looking for this comment, how on earth you spend 2k on decals
Those GAY ASSED wheels ruin the entire project...
i could have saved him $1000 or so on the decals easy!!!!!
Spray paint
Hay Barry white,s Are you,s going to more videos like theses one at all
1964 Mercury Marauder
33:54 Before and After 1964 Mercury Marauder
At 3:17 that front passenger wheel didn't look to good. 😁
Yeah it was interesting when these cars were back in the NASCAR races now these days people are watching NASCAR just to hope there's a wreck and that it's coo
What happened to the 71 Ford Gran Torino
It was better before they messed with it. They should have put that motor in it the way it was.
Shouldn't have a automatic
Nope.. 3 speed stick, with 2nd and high only..
Pretty common back then, for circle track, and strip..
Only Street Cars had 4 speeds..
1964 Mercury Marauder
Parts are Hard to Find
Very very nice Very nice good job
Bondo Heaven, I wouldn't Buy a car with Bondo in it you learned that in the 60's not to get a Dealer special Bondo Bomb.
Those cars are older than you. You really expect 0 bondo? Get real. Lot of em had bondo new. Cars were built like shit back then
Biuld a 67 gtx as nice as u did that dart I would buy it before u were done
nice job
the old paint dude is a whiner
why didnt you let Jones drive the car?
Those wheels are hideous.
agreed
Barry and his team bust there ass
Why does everyone treat Chris like shit😂 he seems like a great worker
Sam Nice I agree. He's the designer, why the hell do they act like he's the parts boy? They treat him like total shit.
coz for good drama u need a bad guy (Barry) and a good guy(Chris).....^^

Auto trans in a mock NASCAR ?

i could have made the manafold tune why im that good
Automatic in Nascar ?
So close to perfect and then they put wheels and tires on it that look like ass.
Why do they always leave it to buy car to build just before auctions..?Typical American bs
M E I guess the producers of the show think that car guys like the drama? ?
the entire premise of the show is poor time management

best country in the world lmao more like soon to be another muslim country in the world ha!
wouldn't mind seeing a 1971 Camaro 2nd gen
Nascars today are just a tube frame with an aluminum body put on top of it and painted to look stock.
Who is your favorite NASCAR driver
Racing car
Tribute- to a Race Car.
L
THE CAR’S STILL NOT COMPLETE!! WHERE THE FUCK IS THE PASSENGER SIDE VIEW MIRROR??
I wonder just how much money chris has cost berry by getting the wrong parts finding parts for a car is not rocket science chris just seems to make it way harder than it should be.
Oh do fair play karman ghia or hudson hornet
Well dine
Cool broh,,
"Who's your favorite racer?" Terrible writing and even worse acting.
Newbie here from pinas
Seems like they do things ass backwards they paint the car and then they clean it and break it down and makes no sense.
What are those wheels? They ruin the look.
36k in parts plus 280hrs of paid labor.
The numbers don't add up, big financial loss for Barry.
this shows alot off bs. like theyd leave buying a shell the last minute every episode. its a tv show, the cars should allready be lined up for each episode. they use the same bs excuse for dramatic effect. and its alays the same type of build. boring and lame.

Such an Scripted BS
He needs to stop with these 3 - 4 week projects.
This narrator makes at least one mistake each episode.
David Pearson. Oh Yeh !!

Parts and time drama and picking on someone is really getting old. STAGED OF COURSE , THEY ARE DOING THAT WHILE THEY ARE FILMING HERE. PURE BULLSHIT.
