Aaron Crowley: Those "reverse teardrop" hood scoop with the true cowl induction were the "hot" item back in their day and much sought after. I had a fiberglass hood with that scoop on my '63 Ford Fairlane with a 289 when I was in high school. Had to install it with the four pin setup though as they weren't renforced enough to be able to take the abuse that hood hinges and latches would have subjected them to. The pins with the slide on clips looked "cool though". Or so I thought at the age of 17. Then again, metalflake red steering wheels were "cool" too. Go figure.
Yeah, I have one of those fiberglass teardrops on my 64 Caliente; it looks really bitchin' on that little red car, an A/FX touch. Has a 302 in it but the hood makes it look like it might be a 427. My hood is really sturdy and takes the hinges at back and pins up front!!

Firstly they're persistently grouping this car in with the FordThunderbolt,, well,, it's really cool but anything close to Thunderbolt is it being a '64 Fairlane and the fiberglass fenders and glass bubble hood. Many of us are suspect of these guys doing a job like this under such rediculous time constraints. From a quick drive by this one looks really cool, but just how good can it be when slammed thru Barrys shop so quickly. Don't think they ever made a hardtop Thunderbolt. They were two door post. And no they were not all grandma's car. The little 289 High Performance surprised a lot of people. This guy is a clown. I gota go puke!
The T Bolt was the baddest car to ever hit the streets. Any fool dumb enough to actually believe they had a chance got taught real quick YOU DON,T MESS WITH THE 427 T BOLT.
in the late 70s i looked at a real 427 t bolt for 600$ the heads and intake were gone. probley the original motor you could see the domed pistons. my wife at the time said no way it doesn't even run.
so they fit engines off to one side screwing up the balance of the car, all due to a steering box?. why not do something really clever like fit a steering rack?.
As a matter of fact he happens to be correct aly nichols (doubter). I owned a body shop for years and NEVER once found any engine in any American or foreign car mounted dead center in the front.
@Dave Micolichek right, behind the engine is a transmission thingy and then a drive shaft, and a diff at the end. Don't want that stuff going all cattywampus do we!! :D

I think Barry should have not put his clone Thunderbolt in the Auction, and just sold it to Tony for $50 Grand, Tony would have been happy and Barry would have still made $7 Grand profit. With all the cars Barry has made money on it wouldn't have killed him to let Tony buy it! Some bosses are just pricks!
DAVE LYTLE - NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A CLONE!!! This is a hardtop - ALL Thunderbolts were sedans - with the post and tall roof. NO Thunderbolt was the low-roof hardtop. There were 100 originals, some white and some maroon. Hardtops were too heavy. Let's just call it what it is - a modified Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe.
I was very disappointed to see that the front coils were cut instead of new ones wound with an increased spring rate to handle the increased weight of the new engine without sacrificing the already medicore handling. That's the sort of crap we used to do to those same era cars when we wanted to slam the front end and didn't really care about the handling. Sort of like flipping the rear shackles to increase the rear end ride highth. Alright until you took a corner hard and the shackle filled. I expected better.
The description says nothing less than a Thunderbolt, but should say nothing close to one. No Thunderbolts were that loud ass orange toner color. They were mostly a sublime candy like maroon color. No Thunderbolts were street legal either. Real Thunderbolts even had a body panel fitment disclaimer inside the glovebox door because they were race only vehicles.
Making it street is understandable, it's obviously not original Thunderbolt. but they went the cheap way with the engine. SOHC 427's are about $40,000. I think an aftermarket BOSS 9 motor would have been more appropriate. Who ever heard of a brand x 521 C.I. with square valve covers. Thunderbolt themed with brand x what?
Johnnyc drums - The 521 isn't what I would call a brand X engine - it's actually a 460 Ford-based stroker and with the right heads, would easily eat the BBC's lunch. In fact the Boss 429 was derived from the same 429/460 sisters as this stroker...it just had the trick heads added and a super performance rotating assembly.
lol why would anyone want to deal with rust. you don't get that money back for rust repair . good thing you don't fix cars for living cuz you wouldn't last long
Ron Schlorff been waiting on a fiberglass bumper from them I ordered in February they still have no eta I found Steele rubber. I’m avoiding Macs at all cost now.
If you put a Chevy engine in it.. then for sure it will never be a thunderbolt.. don't be cheap spend a couple dollars and put the right motor in their.. you get what you pay for.😮
It would have been a little more realistic if they had shown the parts guys asking certain questions like if it was a four-wheel-drive when all they wanted was a set of headlights
The only thing I haven't seen on any shows so far is a fucking torque wrench??? Whoever buys these cars will be probably tighten loose bolts for years to come especially the fact that they hurry up and don't even test anything very much
having a hard time finding a 64 fairlane? did you look in arizona? i know about 4 or 5 that are for sale under 7k< shit id even sell my 64 fairlane for 5k and i have ALL the trim.
Yup, lots of "dry" old cars here in AZ, but beware of the snakes and scorpions while crawling under them, for a look see, at the wrecking yards, or even (especially) while they are parked in your drive way!! ;D
In no way is that car a Thunderbolt. Not even a good clone. Nice car but no Thunderbolt. And they made more than fifty. Counting the ones Dick Brannon built there were 127. Dearborn Steel Tubing built 100 Thunderbolts; 41 four-speed and 59 automatics. That is a beautiful car they built.
anyone else notice cheap call on the exhaust? going into the trunk. cheap straight would have done better! restoring an old car, and doing some shit like that. -1

Let's see ... I can do some basic math, which these TV shows can't. They said he had spent $42k on parts and and 340 shop hours. In CA (where this clown is), shop time is pretty much $100/hour. 340 hours @ $100/hour = $34k in labor. They conveniently ALWAYS leave that part out of these shows! FAKE. $42k in parts + $34k in labor = 76k [True cost to build this car], but he sold it for $65k. He LOST $11k. Well, at least he lost "less" than the Cougar from the last episode. Guess he's making progress. Sure wish I had a budget that worked like that, lol.
though the price of paint etc kind of damn overpriced for been just the price of the materials itself so guess some of those thing are including work, but they should have been really more clear on stuff like that. and on most builds they straight out adds on prices on parts that's retail prices, if you got a company as this i doubt you are not without discounts on parts and paint... a lot of it... then is what they earn from been broadcasted as a reality show and for finishing of a car on the time limit because of the TV...
No mention of real Thunderbolt's being 2 door sedans ,and not pillarless sports coupes as this one is. And why orange? ,Thunderbolt's were white or maroon.

@@2429scj Dyno Don, wow brings me back to drags in L.A., in 60's,!!! I now have 2 Mercs cuz of his inspiration: 67 Cyclone and 64 Caliente!! :D
This was a great event for hot rodding.
Always a fake deadline in all of these car build shows? Always!😏
You are a genius!! Uh its television. Its all fake.
@@FYMASMD Right, 'specially most of the "news"!! ;D
Barry s face always has a hint of nervousness
I love this car
Why cant u start early.?
Always a strict deadline ...😏
Damm it man . Can somebody throw the frisbee?
Would love a job like this, but Damn i HATE seeing Shifters (Adjustable wrenches) No real car nut would use them so damn often!!!
Not a gell filled battery, its a spiral wrapped absorbed glass mat... Optima...
Yup, got one in my 64 Ranchero, which sits a long time in hot AZ sun, but still starts first time, every time, even after weeks of "no love" for my car!!
"My wife would kill me, but i could live with that..." 38:32 erm...what?!
more money than brains, builder...
Yep! He's lame.
I like the Fairlane with the 351 Cleveland with 9in rear end. 15in 60 with raise white letters. American Mag. Me paint it Blk n White all the chrome trimming. One bad Ford Fairlane.
@Dave Micolichek Maybe now but "period" if you like that sort of thing. I had Firestone bias ply Wide Ovals on my 67 Cyclone in 66-67. On my new one, I built in 05-010, I have BF g's T a's, look good with stock wheel covers that only true Cyclones have. ;D Had a 351 Cleveland in my '70 "Stang coupe, man what a mover it was!!!! Sold to a guy in England; he "terrorizes" his little village neighborhood now!! :D
Getting tired of all these build it in a rush shows. Other than that, it's fun to watch.
Agreed, It's like the producers think cars are boring so they have to make it exciting in other ways - artificial deadlines, the money etc. I'm guessing most people actually watch it for the cars though.
Agreed fun to watch. 2006 though, getting old. Would love to watch it in better quality. 360p just doesn't cut it these days.
You have a choice. Change the channel. Even a moron could figure that out. LOL
@@user-s1o3nr532 Yeah, and those producers are geeks that drive Prius' and other electric crap, not real car guys. Well, at least Barry doesn't do that stupid (and really "dangerous" if it were to me) of pranking and taking some guy's ride away unbenounced to him! And his shop guys aren't all "tatted up" freaks, like on most other shows!!
Muscle cars rods muscle cars rods 🤮🤮 🤮 like everyone is a middle age man from the south or west, with too much money. How many of these muscle rod car build shows do we really need?
Can they throw any more twigs...branches on the car to make it look even more staged
How lucky were they with no dents in the roof 🤣
william mise .l
I like the ones where the find a tree growing up through the engine compartment!
I think this is the best car they built IMO
.
I wanna see a build slamming gears🤔
I wanna see one about 5 years after it's been bought to see if these "fast builds" are really quality.. i.e. no bubling paint, no cheap engine, suspension work, no problems, etc..
A week ago I seen 2 of them at thr shredder in great shape nice chrome and everything
I saw them too. They were there for their new calendar. Did you think they were going to shred them.
@@harveywesley5978 yes they are going to shred them I will send pictures on my phone that I have of them crushed I took pictures of one of them
@@harveywesley5978 what's your Gmail I will send you a picture of them one of them was already gone but the other one was in the pile with the roof ripped off of it but I will show you what that I'm really talk about this is really true
@Dave Micolichek if you dont beleive I will send pics to your gmail I took pics
Looks great
Don't think they ever made a hardtop Thunderbolt. They were two door post. And no they were not all grandma's car. The little 289 High Performance surprised a lot of people. This guy is a clown. I gota go puke!
Also do3snt know shit about manual transmissions, not everyone wants auto.i prefer a manual trans
Its not a thunder bolt , thats for sure
The T Bolt was the baddest car to ever hit the streets. Any fool dumb enough to actually believe they had a chance got taught real quick YOU DON,T MESS WITH THE 427 T BOLT.
Oeeeeh that blue GTX
Buddy ...is garbage
in the late 70s i looked at a real 427 t bolt for 600$ the heads and intake were gone. probley the original motor you could see the domed pistons. my wife at the time said no way it doesn't even run.
They could put some bigger beef on the back. The actual drag cars did. Steve
so they fit engines off to one side screwing up the balance of the car, all due to a steering box?.
why not do something really clever like fit a steering rack?.
As a matter of fact he happens to be correct aly nichols (doubter). I owned a body shop for years and NEVER once found any engine in any American or foreign car mounted dead center in the front.
That’s why they are pros and you are not
@Dave Micolichek I referred specifically to front wheel drive cars. i did upper echelon imports as a specialty
@Dave Micolichek right, behind the engine is a transmission thingy and then a drive shaft, and a diff at the end. Don't want that stuff going all cattywampus do we!! :D
@@Snowtruckdriver You can't do burn outs in front wheel cars, it looks too stupid, thus they are not the cars we are talking about here, no matter how upper echelon they are! When Mustangs and Corvettes go front wheel and electric that's when I'll buy a helicopter!! ;D LOL.
These guys are cake decorating and installing parts they get so pissy when a 41 year old car has any rust and by the way that not a thunderbolt
THEY MADE A CLONE MAN.
yeah mate, they are a joke
DAVE LYTLE - NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A CLONE!!! This is a hardtop - ALL Thunderbolts were sedans - with the post and tall roof. NO Thunderbolt was the low-roof hardtop. There were 100 originals, some white and some maroon. Hardtops were too heavy. Let's just call it what it is - a modified Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe.
They are making a living doing what they love.So who is the joke?
it should have had the 427 with the 4 speed
If you're so damn worried about getting the car done on time, quit with the crazy deadlines?
That's all drama that makes for good TV.
Sorry Tony that u lost outon buying the car but for Barry it all about the money no Loyalty did not even care u lost ou !
LOL @ this guy, 38:20
I was very disappointed to see that the front coils were cut instead of new ones wound with an increased spring rate to handle the increased weight of the new engine without sacrificing the already medicore handling. That's the sort of crap we used to do to those same era cars when we wanted to slam the front end and didn't really care about the handling. Sort of like flipping the rear shackles to increase the rear end ride highth. Alright until you took a corner hard and the shackle filled. I expected better.
He should have gone with fiberglass doors and trunk lid, too.
Kids car cartoon
MOST OF THE ORIG T BOLTS WERE PLAIN WHITE
YOU GOT THIS RIGHT MY MAN IT WAS A COOL PLAQUARD IN OR ONTHE GLOVE BOX. WITH A FORD QUALITY DISCLAIMER ON FIT N FINISH. NIT WAS A TRUE RACE CAR.
All Tony want is a 45 year old rust free car! He doesn't want to do rust repair! Just polish it!
lol why would anyone want to deal with rust. you don't get that money back for rust repair . good thing you don't fix cars for living cuz you wouldn't last long
Any tips on where to find front & rear window seals.
Mac's auto has good stuff, and search internet on Ebay auto, lots of stuff for any old car there.
Ron Schlorff been waiting on a fiberglass bumper from them I ordered in February they still have no eta I found Steele rubber. I’m avoiding Macs at all cost now.
@@6ford9 I have had no problem "pre-virus", things may have changed now, thanks for the tip!
If you put a Chevy engine in it.. then for sure it will never be a thunderbolt.. don't be cheap spend a couple dollars and put the right motor in their.. you get what you pay for.😮
Beautiful but why do they always out automatics in these tribute rides?
It would have been a little more realistic if they had shown the parts guys asking certain questions like if it was a four-wheel-drive when all they wanted was a set of headlights
You are wrong about only 50 made. Ford had to build 100 Thunderbolts for the cars to be eligible to run stock.
THAT T.BOLT IS THE CAR THAT STEVE MCQUEEN WOULD OF LOVE TO PUT A BID ON.... NOT TO MENTION ME, YES I DO PREFER MANUALS TO AUTO, IT IS WHAT WE DRIVE HIRE IN EUROPE......SHAME ABOUT THE FIBERGLASS PANELS ...LOVE THE BORDER COLLIE 🐦
Sure wish I had a budget that worked like that, lol.
though the price of paint etc kind of damn overpriced for been just the price of the materials itself so guess some of those thing are including work, but they should have been really more clear on stuff like that.
and on most builds they straight out adds on prices on parts that's retail prices, if you got a company as this i doubt you are not without discounts on parts and paint... a lot of it...
then is what they earn from been broadcasted as a reality show and for finishing of a car on the time limit because of the TV...
i often wonder if mr white e mailed a pic of that car to the former owner. to show what it looks like now.
Don't understand why you wouldn't start the new project right after you sold the last to give you time ?
You can literally rebuild any vehicle from a rusted-out shell, but in most cases: it's just not cost effective.
The old guy that sold his car to buy it screwed himself.
No mention of real Thunderbolt's being 2 door sedans ,and not pillarless sports coupes as this one is. And why orange? ,Thunderbolt's were white or maroon.
Very very good
Why didn't Barry White ever do a convertible resto?
