I’ve actually done significant research into the hardware of the SEGA Genesis, and while its electronic innards are nothing short of stubbornly reliable, there is a very very small number of them (less that 0.1%) afflicted with of Browning Off problem within the entire Morherboard. Of those with this issue it is almost always affecting the visual output (forming a quite odd looking deep brown tone to the images). I have absolutely never seen it affecting the audio output, but I have no doubt that is what’s occurring in this situation - it’s a brown off of the audio.
It's either capacitors going bad or other on-board components with not-so high of a shelf life. Almost certainly something you could figure out with a multimeter, logic probe, and a schematic of the Genesis mainboard.
interesting, do you have any more information about the Browning off problem? It sounds interesting but I tried researching it and couldn't find anything
@darxoonwasser Yes in fact I have multitudes of infofmration about this issue since it is something I have ventured to learn about in significant detail through direct access to the Motherboard of the SEGA hardware circuitry which I have obtained through my lifetime dedicated to comprehensive understanding of what really causes the Genesis Brown Off Syndrome. For starters there is a frequent odor emitted from the Capacitors (as I concur with @TrolleyMC that the Capacitors are a main culprit of this horrible problem). As the odor is suddenly spread at unpredeictable intervals we may also see a vapor which permeates the surrounding Motherboard regions causing a very stubborn stain to appear. In other respects, since this video was posted alerting me to the sound brown off I have been tuning in to the audio components and at this point I can only say that I am stunned by the results and there no longer doubt in my mind that these audio tones are a complete brown off the sound of which I’ve never heard before.
