I have a beautiful weaving on my living room wall, the artist raises her alpacas, shears, cleans, dyes, spins and weaves beautiful wall hangings. They are very expensive to buy, she makes a great living. I hope you find or they find you so your fleece doesn’t go to waste. You can even save it up till you think you have enough to sell.

Thank you for bring back Wonderful Memories for me. My Grandpa Nielsen was a Sheep Sheerer for his whole life. He traveled with a Sheering Crew all over Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Northern California. He passed away in 1995. He was born in 1907 . Growing up I would go with my Grandma and Grandpa to different Farms every weekend. He called the sheep Cockeyed Knuckleheads. Seeing the clippers brought back a rush of wonderful memories. Thank you

So ya cute guys u do know that they make a shearing table for them. Lol even though I like watching u guys wrangle them much more comical

Shearing tables and tying their legs is actually the humane way to shear them, they can't move around and accidentally get cut by the shearing blade. This was hard to watch, as an alpaca lover and spinner/knitter.

@@johnneal1102 understood, but Alpaca fleece is a commodity, and especially a CRIA fleece. The neck and blanket are the best part, I'd make sure that I had a professional do it the first time and not ruin a fleece. If you spend the $$ on the animals, you should have the job done properly. It's so sad to see good fleece sheared so carelessly. A Cria blanket can go for over $100 raw.

I believe she will b more mindful of the fiber on the next round. There's a learning curve on all new ventures.
This was all so new to her. I'm sure she is & has been doing research on all things paca & fiber. A blanket on Dolly will keep her fiber snowy white.

Now I see why you call them donkey poodles ! When one would rejoin the group, they did not recognize each other. They had to use their sense of smell to fin out who they were ! That was so funny when one sneezed !

I have friends that have an alpaca farm of about 30 females and 15 males. I love going there to watch them in their pen and interacting with them. My daughter has spent a couple summers out there with them and even delivered a cria (baby) when one of the mommas was in trouble. We've picked through and sorted and bagged up their fibre many-a-time and I've seen a lot of creative hair cuts. I just want to tell you that your dad, DeeJay did an awesome job. When I've seen alpaca's sheered in the past, they've been on a table. I think your method was awesome and far less stressful to the animal than wrangling them up onto a table and then having to "flip" them over to do the other side, haha. Great job on the sheering!!! They look adorable. It's always so surprising to see how small they really are once they've had their haircuts, haha. xo Heather🇨🇦

The safest way - for both the animal and the handlers - is to stretch them out. (aragonalpacas has great pictures) The first year I had alpacas I helped a sheep shearer at another farm. The gal didn't want them scared (!) and sheared standing. One of them freaked and she almost lost an eye.
Shear on a piece of plywood and/or tarp and you can save the fleece.

First off, big props to your father-in-law...great job at shearing!
@11:16, Rufus and his facial hair, looked like what Abe Lincoln would have looked like if he was a donkey poodle!
