    How to make Alex Kidd good:
    1. Make the ring his standard form of attack
    2. Give him a health bar (not even anything crazy, like three hits or something)
    3. Get rid of that bicycle/airplane thing that you have to button-mash to control

    While the graphics were great in the remake, the attack distance and physics were much worse in it compared to the original. Also, I had no idea there was a strategy to the rock paper scissors, and I've had Miracle World since the 80s.

      @evan2902 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One of the nice things about the Sega Ages M2 port is that they've cleverly snuck in the strategy on the border. So long as you don't deviate from it, you'll win every time. (And luckily it all works in the DX version- that was like the first thing I checked for when I got it)

    9:50 Honestly, not at all outside of maybe having pointy ears. Wukong in the Original Text is described plenty of times to have had pointy or forked ears. In Chapter 1, Wukong is also said by his 1st Shifu (Master), Puti Zushi to resemble a Rhesus Monkey in general appearance.
    9:53: Again, not really outside of the surface level fact that he's pretty large & a antagonist, like Niu Mowang (lit, Bull Monster-King) was in the Novel.
    That being said, it would've been cool if Alex Kidd really was Sega's own Son Goku (Japanese for Sun Wukong & lit, Monkey Awake-Void) in a way, kind of like Nintendo's Goku from Yuyuki or Capcom's Goku from 1984's Son Son. Like imagine (as a way to contrast with Alex being a Fist-Fighting Martial Artist) Stella (Alex's friend from The Lost Stars) being a pole wielder like Wukong was in the Novel, having her own Nyoi Kinso Bo (Japanese for Ruyi Jingu Bang & lit, Compliant Golden-Hooped Rod) to fight! Man, that would be sick!

    • @NovaZoneTV
      @NovaZoneTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not a super close similarity like where Alex is actually based on him like Goku in the start of DB or SonSon in his game. Moreso a case where you can feel the slight similarity dripped from being a repurpose of a character that was based upon him. The Monkey King's texture is still there, if even slightly. To an extent where I think it's worth noting, but not enough to delve deep into. I've seen one or two people say Alex Kidd the game is "loosely based on JttW" and that's not something I'd ever argue. It pretty much ends at Alex and Janken's loose design concepts. And there's a crap ton of Asian characters that take light elements from the Monkey King and Ox King.
      It's even more noticeable if you compare Alex and Janken to the versions Tezuka designed for the manga "My Son Goku" and even closer to the anime film Saiyuki (1960). One of the more popular Japanese variants that's palpable for children. The version a Japanese game designer would likely think of in the 80s if he had to repurpose a game with a "Son Goku" in it.

      @@NovaZoneTV Oh, Don't Get me wrong I wasn't saying Alex was directly based on Wukong, I was saying how cool it would've been IF Alex took more notes from him, given the sheer amount of good material the Original Xiyouji (lit, West Journey Record) 1592 Novel has. Honestly, it still kind of pisses me off how little Toriyama actually took from the Novel beyond the surface level, despite Dragon Ball initially being a Saiyuki Parody. Oh & yes, I did give Some of the OG Dragon Ball Anime a watch a few years back because of JttW (You can thank OSP & Uproar in Heaven 1961-64 for making me a Xiyouji fan & deciding to read Most of Anthony C. Yu's Translation of the Original Novel) and I'll just say I somehow both DID & DIDN'T Regret It! Though it did at least get considerably better as it's own thing after the 1st Arc. I'm NEVER watching Z though!
      On a Sidenote: It feels so nice seeing someone acknowledge Japanese Adaptations of the Novel that AREN'T the 1st Arc of Dragon Ball. Like have you watched Tezuka's Boku no Son Goku (2003), it's pretty good & it's on TH-cam with English Subs!

    • @NovaZoneTV

      I got really into JttW lately after my trip to Vietnam, so I'm engaging with a lot of versions lately. I'm about a quarter through reading the text, been pretty busy lately so it's tough to set aside reading time.
      When working on a different video I made recently I went through a lot of Tezuka's JttW related work, including the 03 film in my off time. It was only ever so slightly related to the video so it's not actually all in the video, but I ended up comparing and contrasting his versions + "Princess Iron Fan" (1941) just on my own.
      I'd also like to get around to the 1986 Chinese TV series. It's very low budget by the standard of what it needed, but for what I saw (first 2 episodes) it was surprisingly accurate. A few people in Vietnam told me about it because it's received reruns for decades. Even young kids I talked to knew about that one.

  • @raphaelmartins6529

    Yes, there is a pattern to the blocks. If you get a block that has a "ghost" on it (I am sorry, but I've always seen a ghost) and you survive, in the next block you'll get a life. If you don't get the block that have a ghost, next time you'll get the ghost instead of the life. I don't see a problem with that because are not mandatory, they are like things to test your greed haha.
    I like Alex Kidd, the original game and the sequel. I don't like the spin-offs, though, none of them. The games are extremely difficult, but that was the standard back then. Other games like Megaman were also extremely difficult. I think Alex Kidd for the Master System looks and sounds better than Mario for the NES. The music is really catchy.
    Well, I think for an Alex Kidd game to work in the modern industry they would have to do some adjustments, like a more balanced difficult, and so on. But that doesn't mean the original games were bad because of that. Again, most games were like that back in the 8bits era. I think the issue with this remake is that it didn't update the gameplay. It's still the same gameplay, but with more detailed visuals.

  • @evan2902
    @evan2902 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I definitely enjoy Miracle World, Shinobi World and Enchanted Castle...but I'm definitely not one of those people who thinks he's better than Mario (yes, they actually exist). I do think Miracle World had better atmosphere and world building going on than the original SMB, but level design wise it just doesn't inspire the same sense of curiousity outside of the first level and the two dungeons. If you haven't, I'd suggest giving the original (as in SMS version or the Sega AGES port by m2) a go as the controls are *much* better than the DX remake. The biggest problem with it is that it suffers from a bad case of what I call "N Sane syndrome" (game is made harder for the sake of it/controls are messed up). Alex is far less loose to handle and while it's not perfect it'll make for a less frustrating experience.

    Alex Kidd is crazy to me. He was an attempt at a Sega mascot, and he's like... the one Sega series I actually dislike, as a massive Sega fan. I have some nostalgia for the Mega Drive game I played growing up, and I can appreciate a piece of Sega history, but the only thing that would get me to play any of his games is sick curiosity. This really makes me wonder why sega is trying to bring him back? I mean, by God, his games seem to be worse than bubsy because as much as I hate that obnoxious hairball, his games are consistent in the genre. Hell, even Sonic is consistent in the platforming genre because, while yes, he changes it up a bit, his games are still platformers.

    • @NovaZoneTV
      @NovaZoneTV  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Like I said a bit in the video, I appreciate them trying. I'm glad that they gave it a go. Especially because it's clear that the team who made it loved the original game. Even if I did not.
      Sega was very cautious with these revivals in the late 2010s early 2020s, and I can't help but assume the mixed reception of these revivals has a hand in how up front they've been with marketing the new batch they announced. Plus Sonic Frontiers financial success, which they already said was the big catalyst for going forward with them.

    • @kamengamer5372
      @kamengamer5372 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @NovaZoneTV Still, if they want the next alex kidd game to be a success, they have to do something that makes him stand out from the competition. In a world of indie platformers such as shovel knight and, of course, triple a platformers like Mario and Sonic. Alex kidd is going to look generic compared to the competition. I honestly don't see why they decided to bring him back with the recent trademark confirming that sega is making a new alex kidd. Legit, I'm more excited for the new kid chameleon than I am alex kidd. And I don't even like kid chameleon that much either. But who knows, maybe this new alex kidd will be the next Sonic Mania for alex kidd fans. Only one thing to do but wait and see

    • @NovaZoneTV
      @NovaZoneTV  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kamengamer5372 A few of those trademarks were more likely than not just to make sure they don't lose the name. They've retradmarked all their series + potential names periodically for the past forever. A new trademark doesn't guarantee a new game, just that they don't want to lose the name. See the whole Shazam/Captain Marvel thing for what happens if you don't keep the trademarks.
      Unless all their other upcoming stuff are big hits, I doubt Alex is that early in line for another game. Given that this one isn't that old. Honestly I was shocked that they announced a new Streets of Rage when 4 was not too long ago, but I guess that was the most popular of their recent stuff.
      Like, I agree, Alex needs something to stand apart from other 2D platformers, but I also just don't think they're gonna bother. And honestly hope they do something else I'd much rather see ENG translations of Sakura Wars or remaster of Skies of Arcadia if the new stuff is THAT big of a hit.

      @NovaZoneTV I would like to see a new after burner and outrun. But I do agree that some of them could just be sega holding on to their ips. I still want a new after burner though
