🎸🎸🎸Absolutely brilliant playing by this young man came across this today. Saw Eric Johnson a few months ago one of the coolest things he played was something a little bit jazzier on an ES 335. Whole show was amazing. Now, back to young man, if I'm reading correctly, as I just came across him this morning… He has passed away within the last year. That is just horrible news. Not sure if everything I'm reading is accurate. Prayers for him and his family as well… Nothing worse than losing a child. It's obvious he had an extreme passion for what he was doing and really captured Eric's tone with probably about 1/10th The fuss Eric has put into getting there over the years. Don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking Eric's perfection. It's amazing what some of the modern equipment can do. It can get you miles ahead quickly... As far as the crowd… There is always some talkative yenta who can't shut her yapping pointless mouth and has no concept of what she's witnessing/ ignoring Well, she winds up, splattered all over the audio interfering with a performance that is one for the books. God rest his soul, hopefully at some point, Eric gets to see these videos, and the Lord will provide some duct tape for that woman's mouth and anyone like her.
Thank you for your kind comment. It’s frustrating he only started getting this much attention long after he passed (July 2022). I was lucky enough to know him and recognize how amazing he was while he was still around, and encouraged him to post videos. It’s a shame he passed away just as he started to get diligent with making videos. You may be delighted to know he actually got to meet Eric Johnson in 2018. I posted their photos on the community tab on my channel, you might enjoy the read.
This may sound stupid, but discovering Bondi and finding out he's no longer with us has deeply affected me :( Dude seemed like such a cool fella and was incredibly talented. A great loss indeed.
@ yeah i found out his real name. But i cant find how he died. Everyone meeps saying RIP but no one will say how it happened. Its sad though. His videos actually inspired me to learn the 1988 live version of cliffs of dover a couple years ago but I never finished. Now im extra motivated to learn it all the way through
Can't believe this only has 570 views... This is top notch Bondi James. I have seen a butt load of EJ covers and yours are the best. I have been playing for almost 40 years and I am not even close to have reaching the level of nuance you have in your playing. You deserve much more attention.
@@picktheblueone I would rather let his closer friends or family decide whether to share the specifics. But it’s such a shame nonetheless. I was looking forward to how he would develop in the future. I’m glad he started sharing videos on youtube, as I’ve been encouraging him for a long time to start. Such an unfortunate loss…
Thanks so much, Emily! You should check out my newest one; I think you'll really like it, being that the production value (audio and camerawork) is so much better. th-cam.com/video/F-2_kazz5Ns/w-d-xo.html
Unbelievable man! Seriously I’m kind of in awe. If I had my eyes closed and someone told me this was EJ I’d believe them. I’m trying to rationalize getting a Kemper so I can “sound like that.” But I know it’s one thing and one thing only that makes you “sound like that.” TIME ON TASK! Guess I’ll just keep working on the rhythm parts for now lol. Keep it up man. Amazing tone btw too
Thank you so much, Matt! You should totally get a Kemper Stage. It’s awesome. I’ll never need another amp. I made the lead profile myself and I used a fender twin profile for the cleans. It took a while to get the lead tone right but I figured it out with some basic studio wizardry.
Hey Matt, I recently uploaded a much better version of this cover. More well shot, better editing, and better audio/tone as well. I think you'd like it a lot! Check it out when you have a few minutes to spare :) th-cam.com/video/F-2_kazz5Ns/w-d-xo.html

@@bryanpasian Damn. Sorry to hear the news. He was a real talented player. My condolences to anyone who knew him. He most certainly had a lot of music left to share with the world.
I made a video more recently where I really nailed it; the view count vis-a-vis this one says it all, really :p th-cam.com/video/F-2_kazz5Ns/w-d-xo.html
Thanks, Gregg! I made it myself by profiling some VST plugins. I used to use a PC-based rig, and I profiled the sounds I created there when I got my Kemper.
Hard to watch any other covers of cliffs after hearing this tone. Most other covers are just bridge humbuckers with a fuck ton of distortion, but your tone is exactly how its supposed to sound! Hopefully you get to play it louder on a stage someday :)

Adam Tolli LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTS of practice. Lol! Thank you so much Adam! Actually I started listening to him when I was about 15, but before that I practiced a lot of Chris Poland and Megadeth. That’s how I initially developed my chops, Chris Poland is a very unique player with incredibly unique phrasing like Eric, except he does some really crazy legato playing. Really pushed my fretting hand to the limit. And the Megadeth really put my picking hand through its paces. Lots of rapid-fire alternate picking. Poland gave me my taste for Jazz Fusion, and the rest is history. Although when learning Eric’s work, I had to adjust my picking posture for a downward slant whereas I initially used the less common upward pick-slanting. Now I can do both, having developed both techniques with time and practice.
Bondi James well all that practice has paid off man. Your phrasing is so clean. I did a Manhattan cover on my channel but it seems rather comical now after watching your videos.
