Hi, I want to make a comment on what you said in the discussion about “equality in wealth”. From a glance it might seem appropriate to have everyone maintain an equal level of wealth but the idea is fundamentally flawed. Reason: 1. People do not put in the same amount of work and effort for them to be making the same thing as someone who does less. 2. People (by nature) tend to not want to put in the work when everything is handed to them (do you get where I’m going with this?) 3. When these two factors come into play, it’ll cause an imbalance and the crumble of a functioning society. The only thing that motivates people to work is a need to provide or survive and when this factor has been removed, society grinds to a halt. For instance, if you’re given answers to an exam, what’s the purpose of the examination? You’ll no longer see a reason to study. Same thing applies here. What should be given to people is equity (a fair chance to the less privileged to stand on their own feet through government programs and the likes) not equality. The only way the society you were talking about can work without crumbling is through government totalitarian power (where everyone’s work output is monitored) this takes away free will, privacy and freedom. Communism might seem innocent and humane on the surface but it’s way worse than capitalism. I’d advise to do some more research on this (preferably through twitter, google and most platforms are censored and manipulated) Capitalism >>> communism

5:28 he actually started hot. I love how he talked about people's zeal being dead. They were saying some of the "poor" side are being religious, they are actually acting like a lot religious people. You can't be talking about anything without any space for consideration of emotions. Many of us still have passion, personally I'm struggling to keep my passion alive everyday in this country. People have worked and struggled until they stop one day without knowing that they've even stopped because it's become so hard. 9:11 I'm poor right now, it's definitely not my choice. When it comes to begging, I can't even beg someone who owes me for my money. I don't like to have to ask for things, it's either I deserve it or I don't and in either case I feel it's on the person to do the right thing. I shouldn't have to beg for what is mine, same for what isn't mine, the owner will choose to give me 🤷🏾♀️. Some people have better mindset, yet they don't have much more than me either. They've forgotten that Nigeria steals the fire in many people's eyes.

Funny enough, I'm poor and because of Chris, I think I espouse that whole poverty is a choice axiom simply because I've not done as much work as he's most probably done only to end up with nothing to show for it. I'm still young. I have more years ahead of me. So I think I'll rather be humbler from henceforth. Poverty is a choice but not in all cases ❤

And if you decide not to choose, that's also a choice. Life would choose for you and you may not like what it gives you. It's better to take accountability and work one's life out to the top.
@ISRAELFAMOYIN I live a privileged life, that's why I said what I said. Many Nigerians, especially those from poor homes, lack the support ppl need to actually build wealth. I know a lot of my acquaintances who not only have to support themselves from a very young age but also have to support their parents and their siblings. At the end of the day, any income they get is consumed and not even enough, talk more of having money enough to set aside to make certain investments that would improve their economic status. Poverty is not about mindset or mentality or anything like that, If you don't have support, it's very hard to be rich. Especially as a young, hustling Nigerian. if you don't have adequate support and your parents know nobody wealthy, you are going to be poor for a long time. Are there things poor ppl can do to slightly improve their economic status? Yes But moving from being poor to being rich is not very attainable. Nigeria is a very stifling country for poor ppl.

Very interesting conversation. Poverty can be a choice, but I think it's a more complex situation. Circumstances of birth, exposure to opportunities, political factors etc matter. The guy whose friend didn't help him out when he needed money for his forex course is v understanding. Sometimes people are just cruel.
Having the right mindset is the best thing one can ever have and the funny thing about mindsets is that you have to keep updating it and checking yourself to be sure you are not just existing.
Noah’s mindset might keep him down for a long time…. Bro, take responsibility…. The Chief seems like a kind person, Adeife was abit insensitive with her words at some point… overall beautiful conversation
Yes, he uses the Bible to justify his terrible mindset but that same Bible tells us to work hard, find a skill to excel in etc. He will always be poor the way he is
You nigerians dont ever say what it is the way it is someone says nigeria is not an enabling economy and someone else says theyre making excuses meanwhile even with digital skills you have to look for employment with international companies because nigerians and nigerian companies that claim to be hiring digitals skill cant pay you your worth because of the poor labour laws and they literally cant afford it
Some of the rich people contradict themselves. They say being poor is a choice, but in the end are talking about how some people are 'supposed' to be poor, and some people are 'supposed' to be rich...
yes it still a choice. humans will always be humans. some people will always be poor. because that's just how the world works. but it is still up to you whether to let the laws of the universe be your fate or you defy it.
Exactly, they understand that people are poor by the design of our current society. So they actually need some people to stay down 😅. However, the world hasn't always been this way.
@@magn1fique Exactly why would anyone choose a bad thing for themselves. Being privileged/ rich is not a crime. Its what you do with those privileges that count .
To those that agreed that poverty is a choice, I want to know WHY they think a human being would choose to be poor? Or maybe someone else can answer this question? It’s an insult to the majority of working Nigerians who are up from sun up to sun down, literally the foundation of the small functionality of the country to say that they choose their condition. The country would be nothing without them. We can do without Obi Cubana but we cannot do without the farmers and market women. Also, it was totally unnecessary to point out that the woman in black misinterpreted the question. The viewers can ascertain that on their own. No need to set her up for laughs. Nigerians already look down on poor people.
Poverty is not a choice. Many poor people have tried to leave poverty, but we need to remember that location and circumstances of the poor man will determine how successful they will be. It will have to take one person to help that poor man to be rich in the future. Mindset does play a part to becoming rich, but without opportunity, there is no substance. Mindset can only take you so far. The girl in green-runs with capitalism, hence her perspective and insensitivity. The chief went through a lower socioeconomic status and built his way up, but someone helped him to get there because of the job he had. In Africa specifically, being poor is not a choice. Many have no choice but to be poor, no matter how much they try-education opportunities, parental guidance, career advancement, etc., it all places a part. I disagree with the girl with the green dress on education. Education is a major key to success-doesn’t have to be academia, but as long as knowledge is learnt, it’s very valuable. It’s very obvious that the rich see the world differently because their reality is not based on the everyday struggle of a poor man. Both live in different worlds that are interpreted differently. As someone who was born with a gold spoon in their mouth and never experienced poverty-I cannot imagine myself being poor, because I’ve had friends who were poor, and watching them live their life was depressing. Hence I don’t think being poor is a choice as many factors play key to keep one in poverty, especially in Africa.
Absolutely crazzyy! To think this was meant to be an intelligent conversation Nigerians do away with intelligence and focus on being smart thats literally what keeps killing the country. Its made a culture in Nigeria where people hoard rather than exchange it value for value thats what the whiteman does but nigerians supposedly the most smartest people in the world are operating a democratic economy since 1999 are unable to have something as simple as a working credit system. Theres more than 250 million people in this country young sitting around using vibrators and busting nuts all over the place mean china used 15 years straight amended labour laws to fit US labour laws and asked them to always contract chinese flr manufacturing jobs uptil today when a multinational conglomerate comes to nigeria they just make a headline about how much they are going to invest instead the government say keep your money dont build and office here instead hire our citizens as expertraites to your companies and pay them in accordance to your labour laws and pay them their worth
There is always one woman that has low self-esteem and puts man above her being! Sad saying no husband no happiness. I pray for her to come back to her senses!
Bro just kept mentioning Firepips till it started sounding like a promotion video. 🤔 Was waiting for ADEIFE to use the “F” word and she didn’t disappoint 😂 😂, agreed with some of her takes except the last take on the existing Dichotomy between the rich and poor. (That’s her perspective though) I really enjoyed listening to the Chief speak 😂. Was dishing out unique perspectives on every prompt. Noah needs to work on his mindset. Christopher sounds like someone who’s been let down by the society and is really pained. These are just my opinions and do understand that everyone is entitled to his/her. Overall, it was a very informative and intriguing session.

Personally, I don’t think the first question, was a good choice. Because, there are people in war torn countries that are poor and not by choice! Life just happens man. Even the Bible says, there will always be the poor and needy amongst us. Not everyone will be rich or even comfortable. Are there lazy people? Yes. But the ratio is low. Time and chance happens to people. That being said, hustle ooo, insult plenty.
asking someone why they chose social works for uni when they know there are no opportunities for that in nigeria is the most privileged thing ever. 😂 this is after when he said that he’s been applying for a while, and when he finally got in, that’s what they gave him. you’re asking asking why didn’t he do his research? no, that’s the most disingenuous thing ive heard today. in this nigeria? you must be fucking kidding me.
I totally agree with you... Sounded like she wasn't ready to listen at all... I feel to change someone's mindset you have to be ready to listen but she hardly listened... Kinda insensitive, some of the things she said
I understand you but at the same time even though you want to do a change of course of study, you should do proper research on the course you want to study and its opportunities for employment and productivity.
@@amir_official2007 that is well put, and pretty understandable. it should be the basic thing to do, undisputed. but certain things don’t apply in generic context, especially when there’s individual circumstances. it has to apply peculiarly. listen to his story; this time it’s not just about research now, it’s about a system that’s not ‘working’, the way i like to say it. and this is where privilege comes to play; to save you. the connections that we have; what about people that don’t have access to this? according to him, he’s applied and applied, and never got him, and when they finally gave him something; it was social work he was given. what was he supposed to do? in this circumstance, there’s nothing research could have done; it was either he accepted it or he kept on throwing in applications, yearly (meaning, lesser drive, dampening potential, waste of time, more money leaving his pocket), and mind you this is someone that’s ’self sponsored’, and it’s funnier that this is the reality of average nigerians. and that’s what the other end people are failing to put into context. reality.
I like the fact that you said "in this Nigeria" because studying a course that has zero job opportunities practically leaves you equal to a drop out because it's the same low-paying jobs you will be hustling for. It's disingenuous to accept studying a course knowing fully well it's not practical in the country you live in and expecting a different outcome. The best option would have been to accept the admission then attempt a change of course because after the whole "so I should continue staying at home" it's the same thing you'll do when you are jobless. Let's be real abeg
@@Stephanieuche it would have been better for him not to go because he wasted his time, that he can never get back, and his money. I would say he is in a worst-off position than a jobless person
Poverty is a choice, a person has to be prudent and wise on how he or she spends the money. Poverty can be for a time, especially when proper resources are not in reach to ascribed to success out of poverty. but with determination better will come and wisdom applies to one's spending habits to not go back to poor in poverty Many wants to keep up with the joneses to wear, drive, and spending to get the best things and not having discernment for future knowledge and wisdom in spending habits. POVERTY can also be spiritual, where that family and bloodline is prone to setbacks and HINDERANCE to be poor and broke, if that curse and generational cycles are not broken off to achieve prosperity.
Like Adeife has said, thething is everyone can be rich But society had made it seem that it's wrong, hence most society rules never favours the poor The thing is when you have a stable economy to make people rich some people would still decide why do they need to work They would not want to work, but at least those that want to work has an economy that wants to help them grow
Adeife has valid points but she came off as a bully sometimes especially when she was cutting some of the poor ppl off and even blatantly refusing to see things from other ppl's pov
It’s a choice to be rich but it’s not a choice to be poor especially in countries like Nigeria. It’s harder for those that are poor to escape that kind of life because they don’t have the resources and support needed. Mindset alone isn’t enough. You need support. All 3 of the rich ones got some form of support that helped them get to where they are.
@mikolowiskamikolowiska4993 ask him, not me. Jesus prophecied as he knows the future. He knows some people would be nonchalant about their financial life which is true. Everybody can be rich, but not Everybody is rich. Make your choice to where you want to be.
A society cannot function properly without economic classes, as wealth disparity drives much of the demand for labor. If everyone were wealthy, there would be little incentive for people to take lower-paying jobs, which are essential to keep the economy running. For example, the wealthy would find themselves paying exorbitant prices for basic goods and services-such as $500 for a juice box-because there would be fewer workers willing to accept lower wages to produce, distribute, and sell these items. In this scenario, the rich would face the consequences of inflation, and the overall value of money would diminish as wages and prices escalate across the board, destabilizing the economy.
I think Lawrence was making an excuse for the second friend. While I agree no one owes you anything, he should have just told you outright rather than stringing you on.
35:51 the answer to her question is because this is the best we can do. Unless she happens to have a better system of wealth distribution that isn't outright communism or socialism. But till then, capitalism is the most optimal system of wealth distribution and societal function as a whole.
The notion that socialism is bad is a big misconception. Historically, under socialism before colonization, Afrika and its people was doing much better than under capitalism. All of the countries labeled “underdeveloped” in the world are exploited by others the west and are a product of not only imperialists and colonialist exploitation but also by CAPITALISTS and CAPITALISM.
😅😅 you are correct!! Poverty is a choice one make, either passively or actively. Take responsibility and begin working your way out. We would get there❤.
I love the idea of organizing this. Being able to hear things from different perspective. What I didn't like here is the idea of attaching the rich and poor tag to their names. It was not actually necessary.
Opportunity does not come to us anymore, we all go out to search for it in our different way. But that doesn't guarantee you'll see it early. The only secret to come out of poverty is to be consistent in yourself to become a better person.

Yes
But moving from being poor to being rich is not very attainable.
Nigeria is a very stifling country for poor ppl.

Very interesting conversation. Poverty can be a choice, but I think it's a more complex situation. Circumstances of birth, exposure to opportunities, political factors etc matter. Having the right mindset is the best thing one can ever have and the funny thing about mindsets is that you have to keep updating it and checking yourself to be sure you are not just existing.
Nigeria has let Mr Christopher down and that’s so sad, he needs to first build up his mindset (first things first) before any thing else!

You like being lied to abi.
Exactly. She actually made a lot of sensible points but relayed them very rudely
It's easier to be lazy. For pot require any effort or risk. They're comfortable in the poverty
I would love to be on this show one day to talk on the power of your mindset which lots of nigerians neglect
Gbam!

What did poor do to leave poverty?
To be tagged as poor is wild 😂😂😂
But it the reality of most Nigerians
It’s our reality 😊

Because, there are people in war torn countries that are poor and not by choice!

the Chief and the lady in green (Adeife) are both right. The guy who studied social work didn't do his research, he learnt nothing in school.
Adeife wan kill my guy😂😂😂
asking someone why they chose social works for uni when they know there are no opportunities for that in nigeria is the most privileged thing ever. 😂
this is after when he said that he’s been applying for a while, and when he finally got in, that’s what they gave him.
you’re asking asking why didn’t he do his research?
no, that’s the most disingenuous thing ive heard today.
in this nigeria? you must be fucking kidding me.
There are many valuable lessons to be gained from watching this video.
Poverty is a choice, a person has to be prudent and wise on how he or she spends the money.
Poverty can be for a time, especially when proper resources are not in reach to ascribed to success out of poverty.
but with determination better will come and wisdom applies to one's spending habits to not go back to poor in poverty
Many wants to keep up with the joneses to wear, drive, and spending to get the best things and not having discernment for future knowledge and wisdom in spending habits.
POVERTY can also be spiritual, where that family and bloodline is prone to setbacks and HINDERANCE to be poor and broke, if that curse and generational cycles are not broken off to achieve prosperity.
This was a really good watch.
The lady in green needs to learn how to argue without being rude or disrespectful. Christopher, keep on grinding! It’ll all work out.
For those enduring the deepest poverty, the only riches they can afford to give each other are love and happiness..

Like Adeife has said, thething is everyone can be rich
But society had made it seem that it's wrong, hence most society rules never favours the poor
The thing is when you have a stable economy to make people rich some people would still decide why do they need to work
They would not want to work, but at least those that want to work has an economy that wants to help them grow
I just knew this would be good
Lawrence says it all ""life is not Nollywood ""
Adeife has valid points but she came off as a bully sometimes especially when she was cutting some of the poor ppl off and even blatantly refusing to see things from other ppl's pov

It’s a choice to be rich but it’s not a choice to be poor especially in countries like Nigeria. It’s harder for those that are poor to escape that kind of life because they don’t have the resources and support needed. Mindset alone isn’t enough. You need support. All 3 of the rich ones got some form of support that helped them get to where they are.
Poverty is not a choice.

Oh no this will be another jubilee
A society cannot function properly without economic classes, as wealth disparity drives much of the demand for labor. If everyone were wealthy, there would be little incentive for people to take lower-paying jobs, which are essential to keep the economy running. For example, the wealthy would find themselves paying exorbitant prices for basic goods and services-such as $500 for a juice box-because there would be fewer workers willing to accept lower wages to produce, distribute, and sell these items. In this scenario, the rich would face the consequences of inflation, and the overall value of money would diminish as wages and prices escalate across the board, destabilizing the economy.
immediately I saw Adeife's face, I knew this episode will be goooooooood
Poverty only becomes a choice when you have access to information and opportunities, and you don't make use of it.
Exactly my point
Are they living in the bush naked? There's information everywhere
This makes me excited that there are nigerians that think this way! Poverty is a choice!

If you choose to be poor you will definitely be poor, but if you choose to be rich it doesn't mean you will be rich. Good things dont come easily.
