  • Another set of easy yet fun designs to make this Christmas season!
    I´ll walk you through decorating these festive bright designs in real time! I always try to include any tips that will make it easier for you when I can.
    If you are a beginner, don´t worry too much about getting right up close to the edge of the cookie. It comes with practice as does getting the right icing consistency. Take your time and use your scribe, and always have fun!

    I don't wanna draw attention from this wonderful lady because she is so amazing and talented! I still love her videos. But there is an easier and even quicker way to decorate sugar cookies if you're quite lazy: thin out a batch of classic stiff pipeable royal icing till it reaches the consistency of a thick custard??? Idk how to describe it but u should get the point. At this point you could split the thick but drippy icing and colour them whatever you'd like. Lastly all that's left to do is individually dip each cookie and that's it! Perfectly "filled" sugar cookies with no need to pipe a border! Just make sure to let the excess icing drip off and gently shake the cookie after turning it on it's icing side facing upwards for a beautifully smooth finish. From here you can get more creative if you wish. Put on some sprinkles, pipe on some patterns with icing or if you're too lazy to pipe at all, just swirl a couple colours of leftover drippy royal icing and change em up. I probably longed this out but the process is deffo quicker than piping and flooding

    I made the cookies and we love to eat them plain as well as decorated. In my first attempt at decorating ANYTHING, I attempted the gorgeous snowflakes. Just like many others commenting, I will need to experiment and practice to get the consistencies correct. I did want you to know that you inspired me to attempt decorating cookies, and as childish as they look, I am ridiculously proud of them. Thanks!

    • @LittleCookieCo
      @LittleCookieCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should be so proud of yourself! It's always hard the first time, and then once you do it you know what you need to improve and can focus on that! Consistency is the hardest thing to get right and is the most important to make clean cookies, but you will get there with practice and you already took the hardest step 😊 we all started the same as beginners and with funny looking cookies, but it gets better, I promise 🥰 I'm so happy you decided to give them a try!!

    I started baking sugar cookies and shipping them to my young grandson 2 states away. It’s not cheap to ship and the cookies are never perfect, but I’m having so much fun sending a dozen or so of my creations before Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and now Christmas. And as I’m making the cookies, I take pictures of the process to emphasize the amount of work (and fun) involved in getting them ready. I want my son, DIL, and grandson to know that this is a “love hobby!”
    I think for additional practice, I’ll give cookies to a neighbor o two.
    After all…. a type 1 diabetic like me can’t eat them all! LOL
    But somehow a good amount of icing always seems to make it to my mouth in the process! 😅🎉❤

Many other vids are good and I watch lots and lots of cookie decorations but they don't show what to do when I make a mistake and I haven't made a perfect one YET! I just didn't know how to correct them. Thanks for this! Excellent vid I could tell when i saw all your piping and flooding bags laid out! These are so cute! I plan to do several of these designs for Christmas! I have always let my flood icing dry overnight before adding any detailing! I don't have a dehydrator; they just sit out on the table. Now this makes me wonder if I can get away with adding details the same day as flooding without having bleeding issues. I would particularly worry about the black stripe and the white stripe on Santa! If you do the red, then the white, then the black, then the yellow, how much time would you allow between each layer? And no bleeding issues?

    • @LittleCookieCo
      @LittleCookieCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!! If you add white colour to your icing when you make it, that helps a ton to prevent bleeding! Also, for smaller areas like the belt or white part you can make your flood a tad thicker, which also helps with bleeding as well. You can also use a fan near your cookies to help speed up the drying process. And another rule of thumb is to do the darker areas first and the light, to prevent bleeding as the dry icing sucks moisture and colour from the wet icing (not really for this case because you're not able to, but just so you know) I would make sure to leave enough time so that icing crusts over before doing another layer so that the icing colours don't mix. With a fan it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour maybe.

      Thank-you so much! Do you add white to all of your colored icing as well or just to your white icing? And approximately how much white gel dye would you add to a 4 cup recipe of royal icing?

    • @LittleCookieCo
      @LittleCookieCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I add it to all my icing, even if some of it will be black or red! I don't really measure, I usually add about a good squeeze or 2 of it.

      I usually dry them in a dehydrator when I'm working on them and then leave them on the counter overnight to fully dry. Do your cookies get soft after they are iced? Mine aren't hard but aren't soft either and are easy to handle. It could be your recipe? They shouldn't really go soft!

      @@LittleCookieCo Quick question though... if I put too much fill will it spill out or will it stay in because the outline has hardened?

    • @LittleCookieCo
      @LittleCookieCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your outline is really thin, and you go to flood (fill the inside with icing) and you fill it a lot, it may go over the border. If your outline is thicker, its harder for it to spill over the sides. Not the end of the world if it does, just let it dry and use a nice and slice it off the side! Once its dry though, it won't move!

    I’m just starting out and I’m so intimidated by the royal icing and decorating. Mixing it to the right consistency, coloring it correctly, piping it...terrifying! I made a batch of star shaped sugar cookies last night and they turned out good, but I wanted to do more decorating. These are adorable and I’m trying them next!

    • @LittleCookieCo
      @LittleCookieCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't be scared!! It doesn't have to be perfect. Everyone has their own consistency preferences, there's no perfect consistency that's right for everyone, so don't stress on getting it perfect! Even myself, I get it wrong a lot of the times but I either fix it to make it better or just go with it and try and make it work as best I can!! I promise with every set you'll see improvement and happy you'll be trying these next 🥰🥰

    I have a question. Do we need 2 different types of icing? Flood and Outline? EDIT: I subbed after seeing the first comment...

    • @LittleCookieCo
      @LittleCookieCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi and welcome 😊 you can do what you feel more comfortable. The reason I prefer 2 consistencies is that I don't have to get them perfect, where if I use 1 it has to be just right not too runny so it doesn't fall off the cookie and not too stiff so I can smoothe it out. And I feel like an outline let's me have sharper designs. Also, I dont find it too much more work because when I make my icing I add enough water to make it my outline icing. Then I colour it, take some out and bag it and then add water to thin down whatever is left for my flood.

    Thank you so much for these tutorials! I have couple questions I would like to ask about your pipping bags. I noticed that when you show your prepared icing that you have two types of bags, One for the outline and one flooding consistency. Do you use two different bags to make it easier on you to see which one is which or do you use different bags for the flooding consistency because there is a reason for it other than to recognize which is which ? Also would you mind to share what colors and type of icing you used on these? Thank you so much for making these, it is so nice to be able to teach my children and have great quality bonding time while decorating .

    • @LittleCookieCo
      @LittleCookieCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! I use the same bags, except normally my outline bag has less icing in it than the flood, because I use much less outline than flood. They may look different because of that but they're the same bags!
      The colours are (all Americolor brand):
      Red Red
      Super Black
      Leaf Green
      Lemon yellow mixed with some egg yellow
      Warm brown mixed with chocolate brown
      Sky blue
      Electric orange

    • @LittleCookieCo

      You can definitely use buttercream instead of royal icing, it won't quite give you the exact same smoothe look but will look beautiful nonetheless. • @LittleCookieCo

      Not a stupid question at all! Once the icing is fully dry, I usually make sure to leave them out overnight to be sure they're dry, you can touch them, handle them and won't ruin the icing. They can be packaged in bags, or boxes with no issues 😊

      Thank you! Yes, once fully dried you can definitely ship these! You can package them, stack them etc and they'll be fine. I would advise though if you are shipping that you bubble wrap them individually, they are sturdy but small details can break off if they aren't handled with care. So if you bubble wrap and then make sure nothing shakes in the boxe (stuff it full) you should be fine!

    • @LittleCookieCo
      @LittleCookieCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much ❤ so for the layer to crust over it can take as little as 30-45 minutes if you have a dehydrator or a fan that you can place nearby. If you don't have that then just leaving them on the counter can take a couple of hours (give or take, if your area is humid it could take longer). Then once it's done I'll always leave them overnight on the counter, make sure not to cover them and in about 6-8 hours they should be fully dry!

    Hello there! Ok, so I’m about to start these beauties here! One question for you..when you prepare outline or flood consistency icings...do you do a big batch of each, THEN color small amounts and bag them? OR, do you prepare each color/consistency separately? Preparing the icing colors/consistencies I find is the most time consuming. Thank you so so much for your professional advice!!! ❤️❤️🎄🎄

    • @LittleCookieCo
      @LittleCookieCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I make a batch of icing and then I separate into bowls, each bowl will be 1 colour. I add my gel colour and at this point my icing is the outline consistency, I put enough in the bowl so its enough for my outline and flood. Once I get the colour I like, I'll bag some of it and then thin down the rest of it with water and that would be my flood icing. There's different ways of doing it but that's the way it works best for me. And it does take forber sometimes unfortunately, especially when you have tons of colours! The only reason I don't do big batches is I find fresh icing pipes the best! But I do freeze my leftover, especially red and black, so I can add it to new icing so it doesn't take as much to colour them.

      You can put them in an airtight container and then when you're ready to defrost them, do not open the container until you're sure they are defrosted completely or at room temperature completely. This prevents condensation on the cookies!

      Yes!! They freeze really well. The only thing is when you go to thaw them, make sure not to open the container until they are at room temperature. If you open it too early, the condensation may cause some issues for the icing, but I've done it many times and following thay they're perfect!

    I live in Sweden so I'm not familiar with recepies for the cookies and icing. Do you think you could write links to your recepies? The cookies look amazing and I would like to try baking them.
