cant wait for league content from you. im a little busy on my group iron man run with the boys to do this league but i will be watching all of the content. nice run on fire cape I think if you did it again you could easily get it down to a 24 hour run. Ill be looking to see if anyone else tries it. because i think the real high challenge is "Fire Cape in a day" (>24hrs) edit: Evonabii is a god i dont think you should feel pressured to beat him haha but still doing it less than 24 hours is already crazy
@@DelPlays nah nah, I'm not saying it because the first attempt took a long time. I'm saying it because in osrs, everything takes hours upon hours to complete haha. Fight caves took him 4ish hours (I think), so messing up towards the end is a 4 hour time loss Whereas something like GTAV speedrunning, if you get the cops in an unlucky spot, or crash your car or something, it's like a minute or so time loss. Just a comment on the incredible amount of time simple tasks in runescape take to complete haha, not really the run itself

I wonder if starting zogre flesh eaters for the 2 super restores you get would be faster than getting thieving up and hoping you get grubby keys and chest loot rng.
Yeah that would be amazing, but the ranged pots are very helpful for it as well. The grubby chest is where all of the supplies come together; prayer pots, ranging pots, BREWS, and great food. You can sub the karambwans for sharks / potatoes , and your idea of zogre flesh eaters for the prayer pots, but theres no substitute for brews or the pots. You could argue that the brews arent necessary if he prays well, but even in his completed / wave 60 run he used half of his doses of brews. So for his final invent, he still really needs the ranging pots for that extra dps increase, because thats how hes able to get by with such little supplies. Sadly theres no real way to get ranging potions from drops besides high level mobs, and he cant make them himself because its 72 fuckin herb LOL. Hed need to try a run without the ranging pots to see if he can do it on rotation 2, and if he can he can skip the chest all together, but hed need to do it on a fresh acc cause his stats are alot higher than what they were when he started the cave
I think my favorite part about this whole series is where it stemmed from... Gielinor Games. Swamp man went into the fight caves with rags on and four prayer potions on his maxed account and said "I could've done it with way less" while also demolishing his competitors scores. With the completion of Swampletics, here he is scratching that itch.

@@Settledrs speedrunning is generally about abusing game mechanics and pushing them to their limit. It is not off limits for ultimate irons to get carried, AND even more importantly, it is not trading real life time for better in game time which does seem to go against the spirit of speedrunning. Its just abusing an available and powerful mechanic. The category is Ultimate Ironman. Not completely consistent and ethical ironman
I think an interesting speedrun would be to open the Digsite gate on the east end of Varrock. Y'know, the one that needs 153 Kudos to open? I think there could be some really cool runs cause you can get Kudos in several different ways
Way too much RNG on all of them except quests. It's like the first to camo top speed-run, except instead of waiting a minimum 5 minutes to find out, it's over a day.
Rendi is a force of nature, it would be a sign of weakness for him to not acknowledge this speed run though. But Settled is the king of ultimate iron man as far as I'm concerned. I'd argue that a daily could be used once every 24 hours of game play. If you were to play non stop from start to finish, if you go over 24 hours you could effectively use that daily a second time without trading real time for ingame time.
I did a PvP worlds only UIM with the goal of getting a fire cape. Settled has my time beat by a year and three months. I’m glad I got to see the same journey I took, but far, far more optimized.
Swamp man has such insane focus and organization skills. The amount of research and time put into something like this is insane. Something as little as finding out the anti-dragon shield is the best he can get in a short amount of time proves how much time went into the small details. My adhd brain would microwave itself trying to do something remotely close to this.
So this series isn't going to include the later optimization process? I hope we do get more here than just future runs; I'd really like to see what you're thinking about, what the blockers are, and what you can come up with. Maybe even a chat with evonaabi about it if you guys want to collab.

I quit rs end 09 but this game keeps fascinating me from time to time. Probably the nostalgia. Especially with this 07 build. The normal rs is completely unrecognizable for me but these videos have so many memories from when I used to play. Still a lot of things that were not in the game when i played it. But these videos are very satisfying to watch. Keep them coming settled.

I just came back to OSRS after a 8+ year hiatus so I have a ton to catch up on. I’m looking to get my first fire cape but have had some troubles reaching this goal. When you agro healers, you ran to the north side of the boot. Can jad not attack when you are on the other side of the boot? Did you finish healers off there then return to jad? The stock for that is 0 which means he can't buy that unless somebody else sells one and he isn't an ironman. The best he can buy from Cassie is an iron square which is worse.
Love the content, keep it up. Here is a bit of wisdom, leave it or take it: Don't get into speedrunning competition. Even if it is friendly, it will make you lose your mind eventually if you drag yourself too much into it. You will lose sleep. You will become irritated, you will become aggressive. You'll become anxious and worst paranoiac. And that's only if you have a single competitor. Long story short, you will go into a battle that may never end. It's basically a argument between two politicians from two different parties; pitiful bickering and schoolyard insults that makes you move forward one step only to have someone step on your toes. You'll have to attack, and pre-amatively counter-attack a counter-attack with another counter-attack just to MAYBE discourage your opponent whilst he is plotting a counter-attack to your first attack. This can lead a burnout and eventually exhausting your patience and love for this game. So set your limits.
@@TheSwirlyMango I'm not sure that the communitites are the problem. The problem is the one who wants to be #1 where there is competition. Now if the competition was to become toxic, yeah for sure, they are the problem. Not all communities are fairy tales and rainbow. Once you are top leaderboard, and if you have the will to constantly fight back, and if you get challenged, it gets you in a loop of always being from 1st place to 2nd place to 1st place. Considering that Settled likes challenges, and since he accepted this one, he might get in that loop if he isn't careful. Don't get me wrong, it's fun to strive for something. But having to go through that battle everyday almost can very seriously exhaust you.
I think the dailies use thing should be limited such that for every 24h of playtime, you're allowed 1 daily thing. So if your run lasted 24:00-47:59, you'd be allowed the initial use and one recharge, etc.
Here is the good thing about getting beat by someone who made the time in under 20 hours: while it sucks to play for that long, there are many games where the run is around 24 (sometime more) hours long and requires the accompanying gameplay footage to be the full span of the run so as the rules for this run get made "one uninterrupted session" (which would therefor preclude dailies) could be one rule.
I kind of wish you had at least recognized Verf’s run of the lowest combat UIM fire cape. Although it was a different goal, he still did it with the time in mind. It bridged the gap between lowest combat level fire capes and speed runs like this.
If the guy you are going against is a true speed runner (which, it sounds like he is), then he has already beat his record by 2+ hours. And he is either 1) waiting to beat it by even more because they notice time saves they are missing or 2) are waiting for you to barely beat it, so they can immediately beat your world record again by another sizable margin. If you want this WR, you are going to have to look for a lot of optimizations and beat this new WR by a couple of hours. GL :)

Once you are top leaderboard, and if you have the will to constantly fight back, and if you get challenged, it gets you in a loop of always being from 1st place to 2nd place to 1st place. Considering that Settled likes challenges, and since he accepted this one, he might get in that loop if he isn't careful.
Don't get me wrong, it's fun to strive for something. But having to go through that battle everyday almost can very seriously exhaust you.

I think the dailies use thing should be limited such that for every 24h of playtime, you're allowed 1 daily thing. So if your run lasted 24:00-47:59, you'd be allowed the initial use and one recharge, etc.

Here is the good thing about getting beat by someone who made the time in under 20 hours: while it sucks to play for that long, there are many games where the run is around 24 (sometime more) hours long and requires the accompanying gameplay footage to be the full span of the run so as the rules for this run get made "one uninterrupted session" (which would therefor preclude dailies) could be one rule.
I kind of wish you had at least recognized Verf’s run of the lowest combat UIM fire cape. Although it was a different goal, he still did it with the time in mind. It bridged the gap between lowest combat level fire capes and speed runs like this.

If the guy you are going against is a true speed runner (which, it sounds like he is), then he has already beat his record by 2+ hours. And he is either 1) waiting to beat it by even more because they notice time saves they are missing or 2) are waiting for you to barely beat it, so they can immediately beat your world record again by another sizable margin.
If you want this WR, you are going to have to look for a lot of optimizations and beat this new WR by a couple of hours. GL :)
