Please please Auston, i hope u see this comment, dont ever touch food with your left hand in Ghana! Taboo, please!
Absolutely agree. She's clearly ignorant of so many things revolving around Ghanaian culture. Comes across as almost too americanized for an African person.
It’s not the biggest abomination that is a bit of a stretch. Yes some people especially the older generation have a dislike for it and do address it when growing up and it’s engraved into our upbringing but there are more and bigger abominations then that. Also sometimes it’s more important explain to people why certain things are the way they are than just leave statements like that with no information as to why that is.
@@MA-bt8tl Well, I didn't think I needed to explain this particular abomination on social media because I assumed that since they are hanging out with Ghanaians already, people like Hayford of Webnation Africa etc,, my info would give them the opportunity to ask him to explain it better, and some societal norms like this particular Ghanaian abomination is better explained and understood in person, since its a bit more layered than just about eating, using of the left hand itself in society, than reading it and making it come across as some flimsy thing from a foreign society to them. I don't think it's a bit of a stretch as u express if u are Ghanaian. I'm surprised that u didn't know that little innocent children who don't even know the rules yet, get slapped on their hand so fast, as soon as the reach out their left hand towards food, or reach out to accept something, and all the things that are seriously frowned upon when u communicate with your left hand. It needs to be explained in person, that's why I made it so that they will urgently ask before they make that mistake in Ghana. The seller will take offense when they pay for something with their left hand, and unfortunately, ignorance makes others assume that every society outside their own, observes the same societal norms as theirs, especially in Ghana. I know all this and went through it all and still go through it because I'm a LEFTIE, BORN AND RAISED IN GHANA, and living overseas recently and enjoying using BOTH hands freely, wherever I go, but still have to remember whenever I get home, not to OFFEND anyone by using my left hand to pay or accept anything, and have to quickly apologize for reaching with my left hand because my right hand was busy...but I don't ever remember, ever seeing anyone actually eating with their bare left hand ever, until recently seeing foreigners who are obviously lefties doing it in Ghana, and sometimes their Ghanaian companion watching them and not helping them out by saying something. My own Ghanaian friends have had to just accept that, when it comes to you can cutlery, I can only use my left hand comfortably. We have several cultures in Ghana, and I think this is the one thing that is vehemently unacceptable in every region, and we all agree upon, so with all due respect, I don't agree that its "a bit of a stretch."
