Well done, an excellent job. I owned a white 1978 RS2000 back in the mid 80s and looking back at the photos of that, the only difference I could see was mine had a pinstripe.
The early ones had a thicker stripe down the bottom towards the sill, they are known as broadstripes in Escort circles. Not sure on when but they changed to having the pinstripe higher up not long after they came out which makes the broadstripes a little more rarer.
@@WhitelandRestorations I was being a bit loose with my language. Mine had the so called broad-stripe too. It didn’t have the big RS2000 decal on the rear quarter.
Beautiful! I am more of a Mk1 man, but still LOVE the Mk2 immensely. Best cars ever made imho. I did own a 2.1 Pinto powered (170bhp) genuine Mk2 Mexico. Only sadness was I was 19 and could only afford the £2500 a year insurance (in 1997) for one year. Bloody quick....bloody good fun. I always loved the F.O.R.D grille better than the blue oval too. Great job chaps! (Yes I mean both of you... I mean it as a term of indirement, nothing disrespectful).

Fabulous job guys. I did some work on my 79 one in the early 80s. Diamond white. It had a coach line higher up which had been previously been 'bottom half' painted to and I got a reaction which took some containing I was using Cellulose. I remember removing the strut top reinforcement plates to do some minor work and then reattaching using plug welds to give the factory look It needed one rear wheelarch due to corrosion. Your black rubber bulkhead cover was in surprisingly good condition for the age. They were always fragile. You may have already answered the question but I've not seen it. Why do you think that the gearbox tunnel entrance had been modified with a hammer? I know on the early standard Mk1s in order to accommodate a Type 9 bellhousing it required some 'relief' with a big hammer. Shouldn't have been necessary on a pukka RS.
Thanks for watching! Our guess is someone got a bit hammer happy when trying to squeeze a bigger gearbox into the shell back in the day. Apparently its quite a common thing..... People did strange things on their driveways! 😂

He said goodbye and walked back down to the place where I had parked it in front of. They call the police and soon afterwards, the rozzers showed up and he went back up there. They were denying everything about stolen property when my mate walked over and showed the copper his mark on the engine head. They got nicked and prosecuted. The car had been completely parted out so I have no idea where the shell ended up. All I got back after a years wait was 1k and a few odd parts that were left in their workshop.
