what the heck? the horn wiggles a little! it seems like the bolts holding the horn on the stator are either loose or missing. i can see a gap between the horn and the stator when it rotates to the side. also, the attack timer could be adjusted just a little bit so it peaks all the way before winding down.
The tunderbolt 1000T is horn wiggle because is a old Tunderbolt 1000T and replace 2001-130 that's new in Federal signal baccause is has gap Tunderbolt 1000T and it was a older siren and new is 2001-130
Whoa, somebody forgot to replace the horn bolts when they swapped out chopper assemblies... That's kind of nerve-racking to watch! Great video, nice to see one of Paducah's running!
Sounds like it's getting all of its air, but a lot of that sound is coming out between the horn flange and chopper cap instead of going through the horn, thus why it sounds so tinny. Gives you an idea of what one would sound like running without the horn though.
There was a cop that came to check up on the siren while it was running. Hopefully he saw the missing bolts. I actually didn't notice them until I started editing the video.
Ever since we moved here, this Thunderbolt was inactive for a while until recently when they either did some repairs or started working again and I could hear it for the Walmart nearby.
Thanks for the comment! Usually they've been replacing the sirens here as they fail, but it's nice to know they actually do work on the sirens if need be. Now only if they could put the horn bolts back
The horn isn't even connected its just being held by the support beams. If it weren't for those beams it would have fallen and crack someone's head open.
That siren loses something at the 0:14 mark. If you pause it, you can see it. Looks like a bolt. After that wobbly start, it didn't look like it could afford to lose anything else.
Woof. These guttural things... They creep me to no end. Even still, for as much as they give me the creeps, they've come to be a tentative favorite and one that I can now recognize easily due to the throatiness the 1000t's have. o_o
@@near5148 if it had no collector rings it wouldn’t run at all. The collector rings are what allow the siren to rotate and get power at the same time, like a substitute for a wire.

Because the horn bolts that secure the horn to the chopper are missing due to poor workmanship, and thus a lot of air is leaking out of the projector horn.
Migausin Leal The blower is definitely working, I could hear it; I was there. It's just that the horn bolts are missing so there's this large gap between the horn and chopper that usually wouldn't be there. The sound doesn't come out the horn as it usually would making this "tinny" sound.
It sounds odd because the gap between the chopper cap and the horn. It allows air to leak out and it sounds odd (you can tell its loose because the horn shakes at the start). Early choppers don't differ with late choppers so the sound wouldn't be different
Brandon Straight There's one in Mt. Vernon Illinois I might record sometime, but don't expect it to be anytime soon. They test on an inconvenient time for me.
Someone forgot to replace the horn bolts near the chopper when they did some repairs to the siren. So, a lot of air is leaking through the gap between the chopper and horn.

I have a request of a new character in tornado siren madness (This Thunderbolt)
@@deleteddeleted172 I just found my 3 year old comment before this channel
You may want to tell the EMA that the horn is missing some screws or that it's loose where it connects to the chopper!
This..... this is the meaning of tornado sirens
Wow. That's awesome. It still has the CD emblem on it
Whoa, somebody forgot to replace the horn bolts when they swapped out chopper assemblies... That's kind of nerve-racking to watch! Great video, nice to see one of Paducah's running!

That's pretty cool. Almost sounds like an A1 at some points. It's just the horn wiggling, hanging on just by the support bracket that's terrifying!
DSRX100 see, thunderbolts in this condition, the kind with rust and loose screws, that makes me actually cry
That sounds like a 3t or 2t22. Never heard a thunderbolt like this before! Nice job
I dont hear it.
The horn is loose so you’re hearing more of what a thunderbolt would sound like without the horn
I think the blower's life is almost over It doesn't sound so good.
@@Jimjam69e it’s the horn being gapped, not the blower
Wow! Nice and refurbished! At the beginning though the horn shook like crazy
this isn’t refurbished. it shook because it doesn’t have any bolts on the horn, resulting in the horn shaking and a leas amplified sound
Ever since we moved here, this Thunderbolt was inactive for a while until recently when they either did some repairs or started working again and I could hear it for the Walmart nearby.

@HSETM As of 2024, this Thunderbolt still stands today, and I can hear it several blocks away it on test day.
This thunderbolt looks quite new, despite the Civil Defense logo.
Wow that thing is really shaking!
I could hear another thunderbolt wind down in the distance after this thunderbolt finished its cycles
Could you do more videos on whelen vortex because they're my favorite siren ever
Yeah, when I get the chance.
I am just fascinated in weather, I might be on the weather channel someday if I want to work there and learn more about weather! 😆
You realize the weather channel just lies because in my town the weather channel said there would be a terrible ice storm and all it did was rain
Wow July 5'th is my birthday
Thank God for those support beams holding up the siren.
There's a whole system of Thunderbolt 1000T's and at least 2 1000's in Louisville KY.
Youd better record them before they're replaced.
I don’t know why most non-rotating sirens don’t have solenoids (excluding most Whelens, 3T22s, and all non rotating electronic sirens)
Because it's more expensive to build and most places don't even need a third signal. Most just use one signal, alert.
Dang, that's a first! Never seen a T-bolt horn hanging on by just the horn support!
Sounds almost exactly like the siren from Silent Hill 1.
The horn isn't even connected its just being held by the support beams. If it weren't for those beams it would have fallen and crack someone's head open.
Or fell into the shed where the blower is.
That is one hell of a Thunderbolt.
That siren loses something at the 0:14 mark. If you pause it, you can see it. Looks like a bolt. After that wobbly start, it didn't look like it could afford to lose anything else.
That... was a bird.
It may have been a piece of the gasket that goes between the horn & stator.
No gasket or piece of material falls off like that. It was a bird. You can tell by the arc of its descent.
"water is coming out of my tailpipe!"
"hmmm, must be coolant leaking into your cylinders"
"....or it's just condensation in the exhaust system."
wtf? A Bird?

Ray Pavon Unfortunately there are no Allertors by him so it's quite difficult for him to record one
Why does this thunderbolt sound so different?
Because the horn bolts that secure the horn to the chopper are missing due to poor workmanship, and thus a lot of air is leaking out of the projector horn.
Oh! That's why the sound is missing that growl
Why is the sound so different than other thunderbolts this one doesn't have that thunderbolt growl to it.
because 2019 me, the horn is missing bolts which causes most of the sound and air to escape between the cap and the horn.
Is the blower working because it dosin't sound like that.
Migausin Leal The blower is definitely working, I could hear it; I was there. It's just that the horn bolts are missing so there's this large gap between the horn and chopper that usually wouldn't be there. The sound doesn't come out the horn as it usually would making this "tinny" sound.

hey, might just be me but this 1000T Sounds a bit different. correct me if I'm wrong but this is either a very early chopper or very late

the screw on the horn din't tight

Wow 😳 that is what my tornado siren sounds like
Why does that Thunderbolt sound so weird?
Someone forgot to replace the horn bolts near the chopper when they did some repairs to the siren. So, a lot of air is leaking through the gap between the chopper and horn.
looks like the horn is gonna break off soon idk
:(
With the support beam it might be hard for that to happen
Not really, that's what the beam under the horn is for.
Yay!
Why does this siren not have its distinctive "Roar"?
+Paul Spomer The bolts holding the horn are missing so there's a gap between the chopper and the horn where some of the sound and air escapes.
+DSRX100 around the 0:14 mark a bolt just falls off the siren XD
no, I think that was debris coming from the open chopper. it could very well be a bolt from the horn tho.
horn is loose dang
