Get it Before the Grasshoppers do! (Video 4 of Harvest 2024)

  • A cold start on an August morning?!?! Well, 48 degrees will do that to a truck!
Tim barely misses a road reflector, and takes us along on a backroads combine move. Mustard harvest is slow, so Tony stays busy with small projects and capturing beautiful high-up footage between unloading combines.

Hi Tony. Just watched a couple of YT channels previewing what's new at the farm progress show. Elmer's has a new grain cart that holds 3000 bushels and Massey is debuting the S9425.

Good video, I like the ending. I used to really enjoy it sometimes at the end of a long day and you turn that key off. And just sit and listen to the silence.

Howdy Tony, Tim, I hope ya'll are doing well,
Hey Tony, why is it, every year, you have really heavy grasshopper pressure ?? I remember as kid, up here in Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦 we had a few years of heavy grasshopper pressure, so much, that all our neighbors were talking about too, I remember Mom and Dad saying, if you see grasshoppers with their butts in the ground, to step on them cause they are laying eggs, ever on the hard gravel roads, I never understood how they could dig cylinder holes, into the hard gravel roads lol but we only had a few years of grasshopper pressure, now, years later, they are such a none issue, they got irradiated, but you have heavy grasshopper pressure, every year ??
Stay safe, God Bless and Farm on my Friends

Tony, you have one of the best Ag Channels here on TH-cam, I appreciate your sharing knowledge, practices and equipment details of your farm. I do have a question, have you ever tried spraying molasses on your crops to eliminate the grasshoppers ? It works on all chewing insects plus helps with fungus in the Midwest, but not sure if it works in your area. I appreciate your videos !

Great video as always. But I thought I’d maybe ask ya something.. if they could actually be longer? Being in Nebraska, I’m always curious seeing you and even other TH-camrs. But maybe some additional content while you’re in the combine could be explaining why you plant the crops you do. Such as if it’s bc they’re best suited for your region. If the crops make the most sense for income goals or you’d plant others but the ones you do plant work the best in your soils or bc of lack of rain. Or if they sell the best in that area based on premium or whatever. If you do organic or if anything is GMO. Ya know stuff like that. Sure if you wanna show yield monitor or whatever on that stuff too that’s great but not necessary either. I know how guys like to keep that private.

Tony, had a switch like that go bad same way. Put new one in and everything worked again, for a while. Lol got another one and had to cut back wires and put new ends on. They didn't look bad but it solved the problem. Just saying, probably just my luck...

Great on the drone footage Tony. Really enjoy the channel. Are you getting good harvest numbers on mustard? Never have heard anyone mention how much per acre is low, high or average for this crop.

Im curious to know why you chose macdon heads over honeybee weve got 6 9.90 new hollands we decided to get new heads last year and we demoed a macdon and a honey bee and it seemed like the honey bee did a way better job cutting than the macdon when it came to lentils and peas and the head is a bit lighter too so we bought honey bee for all 6 of our machines and we love em just curious what made u choose a macdon love your vids and looking forward to more 👌👌

Our uneven ground the Macdon works better with the reel staying closer to the cutter bar. Also the contour wheels I like better than the skid plate. I did like the Air Flex er demoed a couple years ago though.

I replaced the windshields on that truck and week later a rock cracked it again. It’s hard to keep glass in trucks on these roads.

  • @John-nc4bl

Why not dump on the go into the semis on those long straight rows instead of using a grain cart and tractor.
I think that it would work out ok and it would mean less fines in the grain from less augering with a cart.

You must make money based on the amount of acres you farm. I've watched for a couple years now and you're crops never seem to be big and you're corn is just a waste of money. Have you ever done a ROI video? How much you spend to make your profit, for those that didn't know what roi is
