    I don't know how the series handled this, but a real officer could be in big trouble. Civilians who drive without insurance generally are punished with significant license suspensions. His commission would be at risk if punishment for the accident leaves him unable to perform his duties. At the very least, Rabb could face a "conduct unbecoming an officer" charge for embarrassing the Navy.

    Remember that this was not a true representation of military justice.
    One thing i hated about the show was how the lawyers treated the enlistedmen like they were innocent of the charges.
    The Uniform Code of Military Justice is Napoleonic meaning that guilt is assumed & innocence must be proven by the defense.
    The show handled cases like a tv civilian court would.
    In my case,my JAG representative was handing everything I told her to the prosecutor who outranked her.
    I had to wait to hire a civilian lawyer after we returned to home port.
    "Oh goody!More pretrial confinement!"
    I got exonerated but my old division in engineering didn't want me back & I didn't want back either so I moved to Deck & finished out my hitch.

      Major General and Lieutenant General are often simply addressed as General.
      And don't forget the French Army, in France it's called General de Brigade, the Brigadier is the Brigadier is the equivalent to Corporal in the Cavalry.

      To be fair most officers of all the branches don't get above O-4/O-5, Lieutenant Commander and Commander in the Navy and Coast Guard, Major and Lieutenant Colonel for the Army, Air Force and Marine Corps respectively. It takes at least 22 years of service to be eligible for O-6 and at least 10 years at O-5, and and open billet/vacancy and a command qualification either as a Commanding Officer or Executive Officer and have connections like everything else.
      Most officers tend to want to retire at O-5, even O-4 if they have the years in. Still young enough to work for the various defense contractors. Their clearance alone is a commodity, make very good money for said contractor and still draw military retirement.
      Hell, if they manage their military retirement money right and live in a low cost of living area, they won't have to work for anyone if they don't want to if they budget right.
      A very different world when one works because they want to not because they have to.

    • @jamesdecker351
      @jamesdecker351 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrismc410 yeah especially if they didn't blow all their money on sports cars and the like when they're younger, they reach a point where they can retire and live a good life. The higher you go, the more difficult the job becomes in other areas (politics, etc.) and it can be hard to transition from being one type of excellent officer to another.

    What's sad about this show is that Harm received many awards, accolades, and promotions during the show's tenure, and every single one of them were made to be a "big deal" in the episodes, i.e everyone was present when he was awarded them. However, when Mac was promoted and received her award in Season 7, they barely made mention of it. In fact, her promotion to Lt Cl was only discovered when she took off her flight vest in Season 5 when stepping off the helo onto the carrier and Harm made a vague mention of it.. It was clear from the start that Donald Bellsario was sexist towards his female characters. He trashed all but two of the female characters (Harriet and Bobbi Latham) and made Mac look like a desperate whore who chased after every man that would show her any attention. Hell, he even killed off baby Sarah! Every woman that AJ got with was a piece of crap, and every woman Harm got with was made to look weak, helpless, or superficial (Annie, Jordan, Renee). It got old.

      ML Champion this, I'm rewatching for the first time since I was a teen and it bugs me so much. All Mac promotions or awards were brushed off, etc. While everyone else's were celebrated. Even Harriet's. Once, you get to season 5/6 you start realising that they were glorying Harm way too much, not leaving much room for Mac's character to grow.
