  • Watch the complete build video for custom building the 1/16 StuG III assault gun model by Monochrome Trumpeter. The kit features a full set of schurzen (armour skirts) and photoetched stowage rack. The build depicts the rather beat up condition Panzer Grenadier Division Totenkopf in Kursk 1943, so you can see how I created all the damages and weathering modelling tricks. The video captures the complete custom build works so it might be a bit long for some viewers, hope you find it helpful!

    Absolutely stunning. I'm nearly done with the 1/16 Das Werk Stug III. I think the camo you picked is my favorite too.

    What pigments are you using, they are so good they made me think the cup itself was actually rusted

    • @henschelporsche1
      @henschelporsche1  ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a pigment mix of Mig's Light Rust + Vallejo's Burnt Siena for rust. I also used Mig's Track Rust for tracks.

    This is not the Kursk marking for Totenkopf at Kursk, it is StuG Abt 911 attached to the 11th Panzer Division at Kursk

    • @henschelporsche1
      @henschelporsche1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, the online tank encyclopedia and the model box say it was Totenkopf of Kursk🤔

    • @chateaudesespoir1380
      @chateaudesespoir1380 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Often see mistakes on kits with markings and paint schemes. The Totenkopf marking for this period was 3 vertical lines. 11th panzer used 3 vertical lines with a horizontal line at the base. The modelling that you have done is most excellent 😊

    Great job! I am building the same kit. Learned a lot from your video, thanks! One question/remark, the front sprockets are sitting way too much to the outside, did something went wrong there or is the kit like this?

    • @henschelporsche1
      @henschelporsche1  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are most welcome and hope you will enjoy building it. The sprocket wheels I didn’t do anything with it, I guess Trumpeter is not all 100% accurate after all but I am ok with their products and the prices. I bought their new late production of the StuG and I hope I could start building it early next year. I think L that one is mainly an add on product to this one with the extra pig nose and the latest schurzen pieces . Have a good weekend!!

      @@henschelporsche1 Yeah, that is a cool kit too, and very appropriate for Normandy 44 too, my main interest. You too! Chipping away at the kit. I have the T. rex replacement sprockets. Even the axle hole in the trump part needs to be enlarged for them to fit. Will wait with that until the rest is in place.

    Schade so sah keine Stug in Kursk aus, so schaut ein panzer aus wenn er jahrelang draussen im regen stand. ist war gute arbeit aber eher für Schrott Fahrzeuge, das ausfürliche chipping passt nicht. Die Fahreugen waren nur voller matsch und alten Staub. (an stellen auch öl und so) Es gibt ein Video in dem ein stug geborgen wird in russland aus einem see und nachdem er gereinigt wurde, sah er fast aus wie Neu. Aber sonst ein gelungendas Modell und ein Tolles Video.

    • @henschelporsche1
      @henschelporsche1  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Vielen Dank, dass Sie sich mein Video angesehen haben! Ja, die meisten echten Panzer, die wir uns heutzutage angesehen haben, sind in makellosem Zustand ohne Chips, hauptsächlich weil sie im Museum restauriert und neu lackiert wurden. Sogar der von Ihnen erwähnte Seegrund sieht fast unberührt aus. Was mein Modell darstellt, ähnelte eher einer künstlerischen Darstellung und ist möglicherweise nicht unbedingt historisch korrekt. Ich denke, das machen die meisten Modellbauer so und deshalb macht es Spaß, Modelle mit der eigenen Fantasie zu bauen 😃

      @@henschelporsche1almost all StuHs had Alkett style fender suppots (pressed not welded MIAG like on kit). AVF Modeller company from the UK sell those (and other resin 1/16 details) but shipping costs are too big for me. In my case I left those as is because I have found picture from the Russian front with welded supports ;). I have also added Atak zimmerit. Rest of details are basically the same as on typical Alkett Stugs.

    Your skills are amazing and you have done a wonderful job - so much better than I could do. However, I think you may have slightly overdone the chipping somewhat. these tanks were painted in this scheme not long before the battle of kursk began and the chipping on the paint looks like the tank has been in combat for years with this paint. Again, your work is incredible but you might have gotten a bit carried away with it. still looks great though and better than 99% of the tank models out there.

      Thanks for your compliment and also comment on the chipping. I do have to agree with you, most of the time I overdone with the chipping - which seems to be the things I enjoy to do with great satisfaction. You point is well taken and I will keep in mind next time on the future builds. Have a good day!!

    Great looking model as usual! The only thing I would have recommended is to replace the dimpled tread plate on the fenders with the AFV Modeler photo-etch set. The way it is depicted in the kit is way over scale. Otherwise, another beautiful model! I am converting mine to an STUH 42, while my Das Werk Stug is being built with the 75.

    • @henschelporsche1
      @henschelporsche1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!! Yes I agree with your view on the tread plates. Perhaps next time when I do another StuG I will. BTW, I also wanted to make a StuH 42 using the trumpeter as base, perhaps I could order those tread plates together with the short barrel from AFV. Will you be getting the barrel from them?

    • @michaellemaire5380
      @michaellemaire5380 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@henschelporsche1 I actually have the short barrel from them and it looks great. I test fitted it to the kit mantlet and the fit is perfect. I have the etch tread plate as well and the set is well worth it. They also have the necessary parts to convert it to a later model such as parts for the roof, three styles of return rollers, etc...

      @@henschelporsche1 Check out their driver's compartment set, ammo stowage, and radios for the Das Werk Stug. The driver's set includes the transmission, gear box, brakes, driver's seat, steering levers and driver's foot plate. It's a great jumping off point to create a full interior forward of the firewall. I'm incorporating these sets in my build along with all of the necessary scratch built components and modifications.

    • @henschelporsche1
      @henschelporsche1  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a thought of that too about the full interior StuG iii, it seems like a good plan with those add ons. Only downside is the cost and also to fill in the rest of the missing links. Might need a full interior 35th scale model to help duplicating the parts. That was what I did for the StuG iv model.
