A furniture store in our town gave all the senior girls one of those lane cedar boxes for graduation. They mailed you a congrats card with a gift certificate to bring in and pick up your chest. They kept this up for over 40 yrs until they closed for good. My mom got one, and my sister and I got one.
Thank you George! It really was fun! I love looking at what other people have collected over the years and with you being so knowledgeable about everything, I learned a lot tonight!
George, speaking of Petoskey stones, you're right about one thing Regarding these phenomenal rocks, we Michiganders take them seriously! Here's a little trivia for you: 'The Petoskey stone is fossilized pre-historic coral fossilized rugose coral, Hexagonaria percarinata. Distinguishable by its unique exoskeleton structure, a Petoskey stone consists of tightly packed, six-sided corallites, which are the skeletons of the once-living coral polyps.' Considering these salt water sea creatures lived 300+ million years ago and are still findable today in fossilized rock form in many of our overly-abundant fresh water lakes, is nothing short of a gift from God. So, they are not only funny little shapes formed from water passing over it's surface. 😆 Best wishes from a true Michigan Petraphile and big fan of yours!
In my hometown, the miniature cedar hope chests were congratulations gifts from furniture stores in the 1960's & 1970's for new high school graduates. Usually Lane. You had to go into the furniture stores to register, verify your high school graduation and pick up your little cedar chest gift.
I really enjoyed this particular shop-along video & just howled upon hearing your story of the "neck tourniquet" directive in the Boy Scout Handbook. Hilarious.
I’m so excited you’re going to see Laura Caldwell. I love watching her , her excitement when she is shopping is contagious. Laura has that love for mid century modern and the style you mentioned. I started reading more about it. She’s in Oregon shops in Washington State your neck of the woods. Items found in Northeast are fabulous, so different but so cool. She and her hubby just bought a new Mid Century Modern Home. Can’t wait to see her decorate it. I’m excited and rambling, thank you George. Enjoyed the weekend with you and Xeno.
It is so much fun seeing you get excited when you find a great honey hole. Thanks for taking us along. I think I would be too selfish to take the time to video and give insight, as I'd want to be snagging all the good stuff before someone else does. Plus it leaves you with only one free hand to make a pile & carry your finds. You're a good person for taking the time and letting us share in the excitement with you 😊 💕.
That estate sale though. I don't know how you can choose from so many treasures! That Noritake bird platter had to be my favorite though. Always a good time with you George, thank you
I recently had the opportunity to buy a Hummel Umbrella Girl and nabbed her up thanks to one of your other videos that taught me she still has value. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge!
In my area (Seaside, Or.) they often have yard sales on crazy days. Wednesday at noon or Thursday at 3 🤦🏽♀️. When I lived in California it was Saturday morning at 7. My moms and I went almost every weekend then I moved here and Ive only been to about 5 in a few years. I miss yard sales and EstateSales. ☹️
If you look in my coat closet you will see a brooch on most every jacket and coat in there. This made me start looking on jackets at estate sales too. I have scored nice ones as well, not a $300 yet, but I keep trying. ⭐️🌙
So happy to see that you bought the boho teapot. And all the other stuff. Thank you, Nomad George. You are a natural born story teller. It is fun to follow along on your many adventures!❤️
Wow, you went from trashtastic, as Michael from Cult of Vintage says, to fantastic, w/ a GW bump in the road in between 🤣 Seriously you scored big time @ the unexpected estate sale...great prices on alot of things. I was drooling over the vintage glass. I used to have a few of the toys when i was a kid, but w/ being in the military w/ all the moves we made, all is lost 😥 so when i see them, i get melancholy & can see why my generation are snapping them up. The little metal dollhouse brought back happy memories ☺ Thanks for the excursion, George & blessings to you!
Who would expect to find an estate sale on a Monday? Lucky you!! I was impressed with the amount of items they had. Do you ever ship stuff to your home or rent a trailer to bring items back? Loved the wicker chair.
What a great estate sale! Yes we are lucky in Michigan to have estates sales start on any day of the week. The Petoskey stone has imprints of coral from a “bazillion” years ago. It shows its pattern when wet and people polish them to bring out that pattern. We have lots of them on our beach between Traverse City and Petoskey. Every spring we get a new supply as a result of winter storms and ice on Lake Michigan. All the best, “9a”
That's the goodwill in Fountain Square!!! I recognized the china cabinet as well as what was on the shelves. I actually have fantastic luck there! Its often picked clean as I visit almost daily as do other resellers. Picked up 3 vintage African masks today (my problem is I always want to keep awesome finds like this) and a Pelham Puppet in the box. I was very pleased. Sad I missed you, yesterday was the one day I didn't go because I thought they were closed.
Lol that's why there's nothing! I had the feeling something probably comes through there, I'm glad you are having luck...I've been selling African masks and enjoy Pelham Puppets, so you lucked out that I was there the wrong day! I hope you do well with them (or enjoy having them)
@@TheAntiqueNomad you pretty much have to be there when they're restocking to get the good stuff haha. Really wish I had bumped into you though (even if you scored all the goodies before me lol), you are a treasure trove of knowledge ❤️
Are you ever in the Naples, FL area? Are there any good shows there? I spend the winter there. I couldn't give my china cabinet away. I had to call 6 places. No one wanted anything with glass. Finally a hospital thrift shop came for it. I love old atlases especially children's ones.
Hi, Snowbird! I do get to Naples, I'm up in St. Pete. You used to have a lot of consignment stores but not so much now. Contact me if you and yours need help in future and I'll see what I can do
I think I was told that by Kellie at Moss Stone Vintage when she gave me mine! I'm embarrassed to say she told me more interesting stuff about Petoskey stones than I can recall now
Gosh, you found a piece of Delft!! No one else I watch picks up Delft! I collect small pieces of Delft in memory of my mom. She had a very respectable collection of it when I was growing up but she had to sell it all later on to pay for her heart surgery. So, in her memory I have been collecting small pieces that I find from various places. I even have a few pieces of jewelry. Will you be selling that windmill?
Most of us in western Michigan are not of a Dutch background and don’t necessarily collect Delftware. Saying that in Texas I picked up an unfinished wooden pair of shoes from Holland and not Holland, Michigan. I am not sure what I will do with it. Maybe put spurs on it considering where I found it.
I do not know which is my favorite that you found along highways & byways!!! The clothes rack is kinda towards the top, can't beat the price and usefulness! But at the other side of the spectrum, the Fostoria piece is just gorgeous and 🤑 such a deal you got!!! Always a blast riding and shopping along with you!
Love your videos George, thanks for doing them! Yesterday( a Thurs) I went to one and found 3 Arthur Rackham prints in a super dusty closet in a dirty envelope! They were 25$ for 3 . They are from the old Peter Pan stories. They are matted but not framed. My question is , are they worth framing or rematting ?
Hey George! There looked like one of the old rocker sewing accessories chairs in that trash pile. I've seen those little things bring more than I ever imagined they would. That aluminium patio set had super-good prices on it. I would've been very tempted. What was the red and brass cylinder thing at the bookends? It caught my eye, and I wondered what it was. I actually like that Tonka fire hydrant. Loved the glamour girl dish. That painted cart is fantastic. That looked like a fun estate sale. Thanks for the take-along!!! Did you get the email about the Dr. Pepper restaurant card and piece I'm looking for? I never know if they go through to you...
Resellers have been doing an outstanding job generating interest in thrifting and reselling. Do you purchase for resale any items that are damaged? How do you mark the and how do you settle on a price?
I usually avoid as-is items unless they're rather unusual or part of a set. I try to always make note of their flaws and I usually price at least 20% below "perfect" prices
😅 I have yearbooks that don’t belong to me. People always ask me why I have them since they’re shelved with mine. They were abandoned. I’m curious. 🤷🏻♀️
I know this video is 2 years old, but I just have to say, that suit at 24:39 is not a knit! It's very clearly woven fabric. Well, you did say you're not a rag picker, so...

@@TheAntiqueNomad yeah but this clown had people chiming in that they had "heard" about this guy...people who never posted on any of your comment pages. Con job.
Estate sales are better than thrift stores in midwest😊
Ahhhh. Well, that was fun. Because my old feet and knees hurt, it's so happy and satisfying to go estate sale-ing with George !!! Sigh.
I'm glad you enjoyed this one! Thanks

I got one and so did my Mother. I now have hers too!
I still have mine, from the 70’s. It is really handy to store jewelry and trinkets.
Love Allegan antique market.
Me too I’ll be back
Great video George! Thanks for sharing!
When I go where the wind takes me I call it serendipity picking. That estate sale was like a time capsule!
Yes, I love it!
George YOUR videos are brilliant. I throughly enjoy watching and listening to you as you travel long.
Thanks so much!
I like that you can just ‘nomad’ when and where you like
My schedule is pretty tight, but I do like the opportunity when I find it
Loved your Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman reference!
Dumpster diving is awesome! I've found gold, silver, Tiffany diamond necklace, antique coffee grinder, paintball gun, lol a real gun too.
I’ve found some great stuff that way too! Once you set aside your qualms about it, you realize you’re saving cool stuff
Thank you George! It really was fun! I love looking at what other people have collected over the years and with you being so knowledgeable about everything, I learned a lot tonight!

There was some good items at that estate sale. The house was a time capsule too.

Great video George. It is awesome to hear your comments on different items. I learn a lot. Thank you George!

Estate sale on Monday unbelievable, you’re lucky. The things they have are very nice, much more beautiful things than Goodwill.

George, maybe the Goodwills just don't have anything because you've taught everyone what to keep...just a thought...LOL
Or they were already picked clean... That's the goodwill I go to almost daily lol.
