The timbre of this orchestra is phenomenal in its' clarity and color of sound! Kempe's reading of these works are superb interpretations! What a treasure the Staatskapelle Dresden is and always will be!!!!!!!
Kempe was truly, in my not so humble opinion, the greatest conductor of the German classics following Furtwaengler; Kempe brings to this music the same passion and dignity that he brought to Beethoven, Brahms, Wagner, Schumann, and other of "his" composers. Because of the refined, subtle, and yet intense conducting of Kempe.
Brilliant and sparkling remastering of the Strauss orchestral works conducted by a master of the podium in the last century, Rodolf Kempe. The performances he conducted were always understated, clear, and suffused with subtle enthusiasm. The players sound inspired, as they were. This great upload joins the superb Strauss concertos, also a CMRR Century's recording. My heartfelt thanks, yet again, for choosing to include the best recordings on your channel.
I revel in Strauss's incomparable talent at massive and complex orchestration. It's overwhelming and tortuous and challenging to my hearing apparatus !!
Completely, fantastically fabulous! Nothing is lacking. Tremendous undertaking - if only we could buy this as CDs! This Suite from Der Rosenkavalier is the best I've ever heard - it follows the story Act by Act. God bless you for this and for all your other compilations.
Always amazing performances! Some 30 years ago I was searching a recording of this magnificent musical piece here in México and took me a long time to find one LP. Now, you brought it to many people around the whole world! It's feels like magic! Thank yo again and all the best to you!
Listening to this I just have to ask: Why do Von Karajan and Bohm always get the major accolades when it comes to Richard Strauss? These are amazingly compelling performances, with excellent articulation and tempi in all instances. And brilliantly recorded sound as well. Anyone who doesn't hear the excellence in theses versions is missing out; they are truly of a reference standard.
Two reasons: Herbie von K had a better marketing apparatus with DGG and the Staatskapelle Dresden was behind the Iron Curtain. For me, the SKD was the superior orchestra.
Because they were both absolute masters and their versions are fantastic. Karayan's alpine symphony and Zarathustra as well as his vienna recording of Ein Heldenleben are simply the best versions ever recorded.
Because they are deserving of the accolades and their performances are second to none. Why is there such a need to compare, rate and rank and denigrate musical artists? There is a reason Karajan and Bohm were considered great and that is because they were. Who would even question Bohm's greatness in Strauss after hearing one of his searing performances of Elektra or question Karajan's genius after hearing his singular Zarathustra? Kempe was a fine and, some might say, great conductor.
