All the conversing voices are clear, sentiment not sentimentality, architecture not hysterics...and the Philarmonia is superb: by far the best rendition of Strauss' most profound work
The sublimation of the tristess for a world that have definitive disappeared with the war catastrofe... two world war in 50 years....... all in this piece of Strauss... and Klemperer understund every note.....
I love it, but some idiot played a glaringly out-of-place A flat in bar 436 (probably 10th Violin, or 5th Viola, but we really shouldn't doubt viola players). However, I rather think I did the same, way back in 1988. I find Klemperer a bit turgid, and I didn't like the overplayed Beethoven in the basses at the end - it really should be shadowy and misty.
You hit the nail on the head. This must be Klemperer in one of his manic states. I much prefer Kempe in this one of the saddest pieces of music ever written. BTW, I'm sure your mother is a wonderful person.
28k people listened to this and not a single dislike. The comment section is a stable for all the most intelligent people.

Thats just about how Klemperer conducts everything. And that's why I like him.
We need conductors like him around now.
This is my favourite piece that we're playing this semester! It's so exciting, even if I'm sitting around for most of the piece.
okay katie jones
Beyond beautiful...
Wonderful quality of the bass capture, love it
Incredible! Even better than von Karajan and the Berliner arkestra! Must be the ultimate version.

My favourite Metamorphosen of Otto Klemperer.
Thanks.

To have gone from the tristess of this piece to the transcendent stoicism of the Four Last Songs. And this from a man in his 80s!
Da, es muss sein!
shut up
