  • Today I am going to show you the theory in the Classical Variation of the Caro-Kann defense!
We can reach the starting position of this variation via the move order:
    1. e4 c6
    2. d4 d5
    3. Nc3 dxe4
    4. Nxe4 Bf5!
This move 5…Bf5! is known as the classical variation of the Caro-Kann Defense. Black is attacking the e4 knight as well as developing and preparing to play the move pawn to e6, controlling d5 square and staying really solid!
White will often play the very aggressive moves h4, followed by h5, gaining a lot of space on the king side of the board leading to positions where white’s king will usually castle long!
There is quite a lot of theory in the Classical Caro-Kann but once you will remember the most important moves you will love positions you are getting out of the opening!
Make sure to watch the video until the end to see all the very important moves in the Classical variation of the Caro-Kann Defense!
