The portal of Truth is that large black door in the white space. Those who pass through to see the truth can use Alchemy without a transmutation circle. Alphonse kind of had like a mental block where the trauma blocked his memory of that experience.

I said this before but the show is finally kickin' off. Everything else was just an appetizer, now we dealing with the main course. Obviously I can't tell you my reasoning but all I have to say is strap in, this is where the fun begins.
Have to say, this show has great Cliffhangers as you start to care for these characters pretty quickly! Or worst Cliffhangers depending how you see them.
They are always setting up the final conflict in every episode. This show is jampacked with subtle foreshadowings, clues and world building. This show has absurd rewatch value
So, this is just my theory, but I think it holds water, at least somewhat. Ed canceled Scar's transmutation by basically doing the exact same thing in reverse. Scar is taking it apart, and Ed put it back together at the exact same time. If his timing was off by just a moment, he would not have the materials to build with, and his alchemy would fail, or worse it could cause a rebound. It is a super dangerous move. Basically he is stopping Scar by providing an equal but opposite reaction, like stopping a bullet by shooting another one directly at it.
Yeah I agree and if he messed up slightly like if he did the math and science of alchemy wrong in his head then he would have not perfectly canceled it out, and that includes anticipating how Scar does his alchemy, which luckily for Ed, is the same way every time making it easy to anticipate. Cancelling out someone else's alchemy would likely be impractical against anyone else in any other situation but Scar luckily makes it easy comparatively.

The only thing that might help Ed out would be that they have shown that breaking something that alchemy is making stops the alchemical process, so he only needs to stop it at one point. (In the fights with Greed and Scar, they snap off the spikes that were being created, and the next spike that would actually stab them is never made. I love how emotional this show makes you, cause it’s been 9 years since I first watched it and I still get just as emotional. Wrath joining the fight in person is one of the scariest cliffhangers of all time. Fun fact! One of the largest cuts from the manga is that originally this isn't Ling and Lan Fan's first fight with homunculi. Originally they battle Gluttony and Envy during the Lust fight, keeping them busy so they don't realize the lab is under attack. And they pretty much completely kick the homunculi's ass, to the point that Envy threatens to unleash his "true face" to fight them without holding back. More on that sequence later, but point is, the fact that the ninjas demonstrate that they actually outclass the lesser homunculi in a fight is why Wrath risks exposing his identity by joining in this time- because they're a large enough threat to merit his intervention.
Amestris was named after the wife of the Persian Emperor, Xerxes I. They also used Xerxes' name for the ancient Kingdom which Ed visited the ruins to a few episodes ago.
btw, what Ed realized when digging up what they created when attempting to bring their mother back wasn't that he could create another body for Al. He realized there was a difference between people who just die, and people who are taken by the Truth as payment for a failed transmutation: they couldn't make a new "mom" but then, why was it he could pull Al's soul to bind it into the armor? He realized that, if THAT was possible, then it was equaly possible to pull the rest of his brother out from the Door.He never knew that for sure untill that moment because, as far as they knew, they HAD brought their mother back but they had botched the formula. In fact, if they wanted, they could just use a philosopher's stone and use it as the toll to bring Al back. But they already swore never to use one.
I think for someone like Roy it's almost better for his men to die in battle, for him that just adds fuel to his fire... but seeing the damage, having a friend with a 'ruined' life... that's just guilt he can look at everyday. Edit: also glad you seem to be doing well (appearances are bad for determining that but, you look a little healthier)
Roy is barnone my favorite character of this show alongside Envy, Bradley, Scar, Armstrong, and another character you'll meet later, who's my favorite female character of this show.

Don't be such an elite... Fmab dub is considered one of the best dub ever. Ask anyone. The voice acting is great. In fact people who watch sub mostly prefer dub of fmab.
I watched both series in Japanese dub and rewatched them in English dub. I still prefer Ed's Japanese VA, but overall I think the English cast did a decent job. Lust and Hawkeye's English VAs nailed their characters. Their Japanese VAs honestly sound like a bunch of normal middle age women

Looking back, it's amazing how much they're setting up with this episode. And I always love watching Wrath fight, the guy is a beast.
