Saw this as a child! Loved it then, still love it now!!!!! Halloween is lost on today’s kids. This production had some great educational/historical content, and was just plain fun. In a movie like this, you get all of the monsters in one place. “Hotel Transylvania” is the modern equivalent. But this was surely an inspiration.
Absolutely loved this as a kid. It came out before I was born but it was still regularly shown in the 80's when I was born and my mom taped it. This and Witches Night Out. Halloween just isn't the same now. The specials that were regularly shown when we were children are all but forgotten and it's kind of sad. They were fun and age appropriate. The stuff of today just doesn't hold the same kind of feeling.
Thank you for posting this rare TV special It's good to see it again The other one I also like is The Addams' Family Halloween special and The Paul Lynde Halloween special those were all Far Out enjoyable in my youth.
I ALSO love the very funny Paul Lynde Halloween Special with witches Margaret Hamilton in full witch get up and little Withcie Poo actress Billie Hayes from HR Puff n Stuff
Don't forget the Valuable Lessons learned fm many others like "Pinocchio" & "Jack 'N The Bean Stock". Charlie Brown Christmas - Unedited. Let alone the Lone Ranger & "Davy & Goliath" very good Clay Motion by The Lutheran's. No School shootings - for over like 225 years (less than 1-2%, of today, and V. Rare!). Families & Teachers went to Church, and families - Black & White had the exact same morals & values (most did). I could ride my bike (15- 30 miles) & stop at either/any household & get a drink of water & a cookie, or sandwich!
Thank you for posting this! I watched this constantly as a kid (Halloween time or not) and I was devastated when my dad taped over the VHS once I got older. When trying to hunt it down in adulthood neither my father nor I could remember the title (I couldn't remember much beyond the basic plot and the "open in the night, closed in the day" bit) and I when I finally did I didn't remember that it featured Judd Hirsch and Henry Gibson! Watching it now, every bit came back to me. Nothing was forgotten anymore. Again, thank you for this. And sorry for my long-winded recollecting. I feel like I'm 6 again.
I haven't seen this since I was a child and our VHS wore out. I've been wondering about this for years. It's still as cute as it was when I was small! I'm gonna watch this every Halloween from now on as long as it's uploaded on here. It's classic. Thank you so much! This made my night, I couldn't stop giggling.
I shamelessly bought this on DVD from someone overseas who was probably illegally burning it on disc. This was one of my favorite halloween shows when I was little...and now my kids enjoy it too. 💙
Great. Its like mad monster party with real actors. The actor of count Dracula is super, he talk in the same way like Bela Lugosi. Really so funny with the other classic Monsters. Thanks alot for uploading.
Yay,it’s Halloween finally! I love watching this every Halloween! It’s a tradition in my family to always see this and Raggedy Ann an Andy And the Pumpkin Who Couldn’t Smile! 🎃
Anyone else notice that the Werewolf was played by the late Jack Riley, a.k.a. Stu Pickles from "Rugrats?" And then to add to the connection, John Schuck, who played the Frankenstein Monster, voiced Reptar in the "Reptar on Ice" episode!
I think I watched this on Halloween 1986 when I was five. Funny stuff. And also funny that the actor playing the Frankenstein Monster also went on to play Herman Munster.
I haven't seen this over 30 years. I remember seeing this as a kid. But one thing I mistaken I thought this was in black and white. But wow I can't believe how I good I can remember what I saw on television as a kid. Whatever I can recollect what I saw I then I search it on here. Wow it's amazing I remembered so much I saw as a kid wow.
Frankenstein's Monster was played by character actor John Schuck known from Star Trek and Holmes and Yoyo I liked Jack Riley as The Werewolf, we know him best from The Bob Newhart Show. The Disco song at the end is ""Keep on Thinkin' " sung by: Zenobia THE FILMING LOCATION MANSION is itself a character as it is a the famous Gothic Mansion called Lyndhurst Mansion on the Hudson in Tarrytown NY was used in the two MGM Dark Shadows' movies as well as in TV commercials and other movies.
The disco scene at the end reminded me of a movie that came out a few years after this when Al Pacino was disco dancing in a Miami club with Michelle Pfeiffer. I remember this movie from when I was a kid and haven't watched it in a good 35 years no doubt. Thankx for posting!
Wow this sure didn't age well for me unfortunately. I enjoyed watching this every Halloween season as a kid and I thought I'd give it another go after finding it (I had forgotten about this for many, many years). Upon coming across this thanks in part buy TH-cam and whomever posted it, I was able to relive a childhood tradition. Thanks for that!!
I 100% agree with you jellybabie1984 this movie was my favorite as a kid also.i still watch it still today and can not get enough. Shows toay are not what they used to be. The jokes in this movie still make me laugh. I always cry at the end when the witch says kids this ride is just for you cause its like she is talking to me when i was a kid watching it.
I wonder why the video company that released this on home video back in the 80's decided to change the name, as the original title "The Halloween That Almost Wasn't made a lot more sense. I remember watching this on both HBO and the Disney Channel back in the 80's and 90's. I used to own a copy taped off of the Disney Channel in 1992.
Omg!!!! I remembered watching this!!! It was on Disney channel when saw this. I didn’t know what title it was so called a witch who didn’t want to be a witch anymore. Thought be gone forever but yess glad it’s not👏👏👏

That's pretty much word for word how I feel! The art of making a good family- friendly Halloween special is mostly lost nowadays.
Adamguy2003
They make Halloween specials anymore? Every place around me is ALREADY stocking x-mas stuff..
Alex Brown Boo stocking x-mas stuff!!
Garfield's Halloween Adventure is a good one too.
get out of my head
It's a personal tradition that I watch "The Halloween That Almost Wasn't" and "Witch's Night Out" every October. Thank you for uploading this.
I watch this one and Disney's Halloween Treat. 🎃
So do I. Mariette Hartley is from the town I'm from and went to same school system.
Classic family show. Everything sucks now and is stale. Guess I'm just an old bastard. Thanks for posting this!

Forget this show exsided
"My feet hurt."
"Don't give that! I happen to know they're not your feet."
"Why'd you have to bring THAT up for?"
xD Cracks me up.
Me too! 😂😂😂😂
Judd Hirsch as Dracula reminds me of The Count on Sesame Street-lol!
He may have taken his cues from Count Von Count. :-)
Thank you for posting this! I watched this constantly as a kid (Halloween time or not) and I was devastated when my dad taped over the VHS once I got older. had this on an ancient VHS that came out every halloween in the '80s. can't believe how well i remember the disco scene.
This was the best Halloween special ever
Only an actor as talented as Judd Hirsch could find the right balance to play a role like this and be genuinely funny.
“Is it safe to come out yet? Yes it’s safe to come out and protect my life.” Always cracks me up when hearing that.
I haven't seen this since I was a child and our VHS wore out. I've been wondering about this for years. It's still as cute as it was when I was small! One of my all time favorites... ‘teeny tiny bat...’🤣🤣
Bela Lugosi, Christopher Lee, and Judd Hirsch. Best Dracula's ever!
Something about being a kid that makes Halloween all the more special!
I shamelessly bought this on DVD from someone overseas who was probably illegally burning it on disc. This was one of my favorite halloween shows when I was little...and now my kids enjoy it too. 💙
Lol some of the best movies and shows you have to buy from someone sketchy overseas.
I remember watching this as a kid , i now have it on Dvd, it's the best Halloween ever, love this 0x0x0x0
You honestly don't know how elated I am that I've found this! Thank you so very much for providing me with a blast from my childhood!
Great. Its like mad monster party with real actors. The actor of count Dracula is super, he talk in the same way like Bela Lugosi. Really so funny with the other classic Monsters.
Thanks alot for uploading.
I use to watch this every year when I was little! I never thought I'd be able to see it again!
I remember seeing this once has a kid.
Thanks for posting a great childhood memory.
I watch this every year. Such a classic Halloween special.
Didn't think it was a hummingbird!! LOL
I used to love to watch this on the Disney channel when I was little! #classic
A favorite since my childhood, always loved Halloween! 🎃
Nostalgia Critic was right, this is a wonderfully silly nostalgic movie. Thanks for posting.
906087 so I’m not the only one who came here from him!
This is so bad it's awesome!
Walker is a bigger monster than any of the ones featured here.
Thank you for uploading this show it's fantastic television 😁😁😁
LOVE THIS Halloween special. I have this on VHS and a DVD as well. Both are much better quality than what is shown here.
Fantastic, great theatrically performance of all Actors!
Thanks for sharing! 👍
I remember watching this when I was a little kid back in the 80's. Such a corny, but still very memorable halloween special.
This needs to be remastered for HD
I remember when this was shown on the Disney channel every Halloween as a child and I loved it.
I love this movie!!! Was thinking of it...and here it is!
I loved watching this when I was a kid! thank you for posting it
Everybody in school thought Cher was playing the witch. Lol!!!
Absolutely beautiful story!!! I always love wayching these vintage Halloween shows during October. I dont remember this one but i loved it!
This is a classic! Along with Disneys Halloween Treat
Anyone who enjoyed this will love the show on FX called What We Do In The Shadows........
Oh man. I was feeling a bit down this year. But this. Seeing this once again...brought me to happy tears. Thank you for posting. ❤️❤️
Jen Wolford u rock! Thanx for posting this nostalgic Gem! 😎😎😎😎
I remember this well.. Just recently I was trying to remember the name of it.. thanks for posting!
Yay,it’s Halloween finally! I love watching this every Halloween! It’s a tradition in my family to always see this and Raggedy Ann an Andy And the Pumpkin Who Couldn’t Smile! 🎃
23:44 He throws off his cape and he thinks he's John Travolta.
Grew up watibg this one!!! Great memories!!!
Anyone else notice that the Werewolf was played by the late Jack Riley, a.k.a. Stu Pickles from "Rugrats?" And then to add to the connection, John Schuck, who played the Frankenstein Monster, voiced Reptar in the "Reptar on Ice" episode!
This movie is adorable!!!
Thanks so much for posting this, also funny with John Schuck playing the monster. In 1980 he took the Herman Munster role over.
I think I watched this on Halloween 1986 when I was five. Funny stuff. And also funny that the actor playing the Frankenstein Monster also went on to play Herman Munster.
yes that is character actor John Schuck whom did parts in Star Trek and bad TV show Holmes and Yoyo ?
I know, I remember seeing him in many things.
Couldn't find this for years... then one day I Googled "witch dracula disco"
I did the same thing but I yahoo'd it.
I watched this back during my grade school days in the 70s and I still think it's awesome They should make a Pixar like movie version of this.
What a great movie for Halloween 🎃 I was 7 in 1979 I don't remember this one.
I haven't seen this over 30 years. I remember seeing this as a kid. But one thing I mistaken I thought this was in black and white. But wow I can't believe how I good I can remember what I saw on television as a kid. Whatever I can recollect what I saw I then I search it on here. This special is so underated
Poor Dracula...a victim of fake news. Getting the blame for trying to end Halloween.
I can still hear my mom and dad roaring with laughter at 23:43
Very Euphoric

The Jupiter 2 John schuck the new Munsters October 8th 1988
Thank you and Happy Halloween!
The disco scene at the end reminded me of a movie that came out a few years after this when Al Pacino was disco dancing in a Miami club with Michelle Pfeiffer.
I remember this movie from when I was a kid and haven't watched it in a good 35 years no doubt. Thankx for posting!
It is actually a really obvious reference to the Travolta film "Saturday Night Fever". Which came out 2 years before this , and was super popular.
@@adgato75 In ernest, it's kinda tone deaf since when the special was made and aired in 1979, Disco was dead in the water
This was my fav as a kid
Cheesy fun
Doesn't help that the special didn't get the memo that Disco died when the special was made [1979]
I remember watching this special. It was really funny and I enjoyed watching it
This and the Worst Witch. I miss these days. :/
I have not seen this since it first aired in the 70s.
I loved this as a kid in the late 80s. Was it on Disney channel er sumfin? Glad I can find it online now :D
I saw this on Halloween in 1986 I think it was (I was five). Fun stuff. Too bad it's so rare now but I guess that's why we have TH-cam.
I remember watching this when I was a little kid in the 1980s!
Wow this sure didn't age well for me unfortunately. This was likely made due to the success of the comedy "Love at First Bite" that had come out earlier that year.
I 100% agree with you jellybabie1984 this movie was my favorite as a kid also.i still watch it still today and can not get enough. Shows toay are not what they used to be. 1:21. Be quiet!! 😂😂😂😂
2:48 How dare he suggest such a thing!
They got Judd Hirsch to play Dracula in this?! :O
Judd Hircsh is the closest actor that resembles Bela Lugosi
Except for Martin Landau.
The witch is a real biatch! I love this.
my aunt always showed this to me as a kida and i loved it as a kid
i LOVE this movie
Omg!!!! I remembered watching this!!! It was on Disney channel when saw this. I didn’t know what title it was so called a witch who didn’t want to be a witch anymore. Thought be gone forever but yess glad it’s not👏👏👏
Judd Hirsch kinda looks like Count Chocula...
never seen this. good clean fun for kids.
CLASSIC!!
😂😍 Never seen this.
My feet hurt. Don't give me that I happen to know there not your feet lol lol
Hey thanks that was just so 👌 kute as peace love and hair grease to all and to all a good night from your s truly👻😘😍🔮🐧🎒🐣😃🎃
the song @12:18 reminds me of a Vittorio Monti piece. FYI he's a classical violinist
John Schuck who plays Frankenstein went onto play him again in the Munsters Today show.
Full moon on Halloween 2020 :)
Still have trouble believing that Judd Hirsch played Dracula in this.
"Where are you all?! It's safe for you to come out now and protect my life."
Teeny tiny bat...teeny tiny bat....teeny tiny bat...
Not so very long after this, John Schuck was cast as Herman Munster in an update of "The Munsters." Coincidence? I say thee NAY! :-)
I wish it wasn’t stretched out to widescreen
I remember this when I was a kid I was 17 when I first saw this. And then they stop showing it. Sucks I only saw it once.
Kids... PREPARE TO REMINISCE!!!
I saw this as a kid, but I don't remember it
Why would you stretch the ratio...
Man, I'd say this whole issue between Dracula and the Witch was just a lover's quarrel.
Blackadder and Baldrick as Dracula and Igor. I have a cunning plan make yourself a tiny bat.
I didn't know George Lucas played the Wolfman....
HAAAAAAAA, RIGHT
Jack Riley not George Lucas
ya know, even tho they tryed, the witch wasnt ugly at all, funny lol
Hey why can Cinemassacre reviewed it?!
cant be the 70s without a disco bit randomly put in
