    Just my 2 cents, Randy.
I'm a lifetime fisherman and 66 years old.
Your content is very good. YT might be over saturated with info, but for me, personally, I can only take in so many new techniques. It takes time to gain trust in something unfamiliar. Sometimes a long time.
I'll fall back to old patterns fairly quickly. So, I pick a subject that applies and work with it, then another.
Plus, I'm retired and the products you endorse are pretty pricey.
Anyway, I probably only watch 1 in 4.
You've been honest with me, so that's my input.
    Tight lines, Randy.

I’m a pastor with lots of followers and viewers but love to bass fish. This is JUST MY OPINION!!!! The current culture loves drama over education. It’s unfortunate but true in all aspects of culture. Entertainment OVER Self Improvement!!! In my context, I’m not bitter but just trying to learn to work within it! Please keep the content coming!!!! I Love it and I watch your current and then I always go back to your older stuff when you were in your house. Example jerk baits, watched both videos and tooks notes and marked baits on tackle warehouse!!!! Keep the content coming!!!! Add value and you’ll always have an audience!!!! JMO

Cant really compare views from 3 years ago, Covid and a massive influx of new anglers because of it. You can say the same thing with any subject matter on TH-cam. You have to keep getting more creative, attack it from a different angle. If it was easy everyone would be doing it!

It is wat it is everyone has had to go back to work in the office or on an actual job site 3-4 years ago 90% of the world was at home with nothing to do!

Randy I can’t speak for everyone but the whole tournament scene and packed boat ramps have soured me from bass fishing. I’ve transitioned to salt water. Your tips are legit and I’m from your era and style of fishing. FFS has made it quite depressing to even think of competing anymore without using it and I personally don’t care to invest in it. Honestly I think the glory days of bass fishing is over and it will be up to the scopers to keep it going.

The problem are the drug users. Here, the tournaments are a huge problem, but people will not give them up just like druggies will not give up their drugs.

Randy, I hope you read the comments because I've got news for you: my budget per year on lures is the same as it was for the past 10 years, except for the last 2. Prices for everything have gone up so much, lures including, that I'm fishing my old lures and clean, fix my old gear instead of buying. Here's how bad it is in Canada, our local Canadian Tire (big national retailer) has put rope around the fishing tackle aisle and entrance isn't allowed without assistance. There was too much theft. Economy brought down people's purchasing power. Nobody wants to watch toy review content that reminds them that they can't afford it.... Respond if you actually read these. Thanks

YT is a passing fad. Creators are moving on to other platforms that don't have so much censorship. You have to move into creative techniques and editing like Greg Blanchard in Northern California. His vids are like movies with close ups of flora and fauna. For me, I want to see fishing improvement strategies and PROVE those theories with on the water filming. For example, if the creator says this color matters or doesn't, let's go to the water and test your theory. Thanks Randy.

Now that I have an abundance of lures, I just need to spend more time on the water. For me, anything having to do with different retrieves or things I can do to increase my percentages like lure modifications or things to coax a bass to bite I find especially helpful.

As a relative newbie to Bass fishing 2 years. I followed and absorbed as much info as I could. Yours included. But yes there is a saturation point and I for one have reached that. I am much more selective about how much and whom I watch. When folks get into railing about forward facing sonar and other sensational topics I tune out. Just not interested in hearing folks bellyache to and about each other. So, keep doing your vids and we will watch if and for as long as the provider captures our interest.

Over saturation. It’s real. Happens in every genre. I still watch a few but there’s so many people still trying to survive on TH-cam since Covid it’s insane. And still more popping up. One can only hear something so many times until it’s just background noise. Stick to being you. Keep being real. It’s a rare thing. There are so many wannabe googan clones out there it’s sad. And very obvious. I appreciate the realistic honest approach. God bless, thanks for doing what you do!

The "true" technique type videos are best for people who are looking for specific info. Part of me thinks it's also a combination of when people are engaging. Late winter, gearing up for spring you'll likely see an increase in viewership. There's a seasonality to everything.
I know I've watched a few different youtubers and some are VERY heavy and sharply push specific brands/equipment in an obviously biased way. While you have sponsorships, the information you provide doesn't come out as biased. So part of the way that content creation goes seems to be this: If you're authentic about your presentation, and provide value to your audience, the views will all come. I'm not a "new" angler, but I'm new when it comes to a lot of techniques and such which has me digging for a lot of information/data etc. This is part of why you have been getting a fair bit of my screentime lately!
    Keep it up!

There has to be an entertainment value. Has to create intrigue. Unique and different. A lot of boils down to personality. It’s looking like most people would rather be entertained than educated. I see this happen on my channel because I’m no teacher. I just entertain and document River fishing for smallmouth here in southern WV. Just wade fishing. No boat no kayak. What I’m doing is unique and different and not many are doing it. I’m learning all to well about putting time in TH-cam and seeing what works and what don’t. Catchy title and thumbnail is crucial. We’ve all got our strength and weaknesses but this is an important discussion.

As with the other comments, really just my opinion. I am a very small content creator. When I started my channel it was just to share what it was like to fish on a regular basis and also share what it is like to live at Lake of the Ozarks. I do see the same pattern, but on a much smaller scale. I really think oversaturation is the problem. Young kids are a big chunk of the audience and because of the popularity of shorts and reels and instant gratification, it is tough to get anyone to dig in and watch good content all the way through. Love of drama is a part of it too...no doubt. Thanks for putting out quality content and I hope the trend rights itself.

Randy I greatly enjoy your honesty. I am 65 so I am from that ole school. Yes, the content is saturated however you are correct about entertainment v. educational. Call me crazy but I don't really see any content on the value of fishing. Let me explain, my rod and reel are worth X. My boat and its maintenance are XXXXX. You as a professional fisherman and we do share mutual professional relationships with touring pros who know that the gains and losses are with the equipment. Nobody on the internet has A to Z content on this subject. Batteries are a big deal as are the current electronics. So while there are those of us who run 135K packages on big lakes, there are those who run a jon boat and fish some of the most prized lakes America has to offer. Talk to them. I would love to see a comprehensive review of treble hooks and how to correctly use them...on particular baits. Trolling motors, 2 stroke oil, and greases. Have many more successes!

When you say only two thousand people watched the video and that’s counted as a failure, that seems to be the problem right there.
Two thousand people is a lot of people that want to learn something new or to use a bait in a way that they didn’t know about and catch more bass because of it. To me that sounds like success for two thousand people.
The point of the video is to help people catch bass and learn new things.
If you went to give a presentation in person and two thousand people showed up then that would be a success wouldn’t it.
I’m cheering for those people that tuned in and learned something.
    That’s no small deal.

This is what companies selling goods or services would call market saturation. The same applies to those selling entertainment/education. You are not only competing against other YT fisher-people, but you are competing against all YT creators for people's time. I don't have any convenient stats in front of me but I would almost guarantee the amount of YT creators has gone up exponentially in the last 5 years. So yeah, imo finding ways to create new unique content that is both educational and entertaining is probably the key for your market. I've read through the comments and there are some really good suggestions at least! Folks want live demos of the lures in action instead of just talking about it...that was loud and clear! Good luck and I will continue to support your channel!!

You have a mental library that you could tap into more. Take events or trips you have fished and what you did and why and what was the result? I could listen to that all day long.

I will add my 2 cents worth. Though I have been fishing for something over 70 years, I still want to learn more about it. And that is why I subscribe to your channel as well as several others. I want the information you offer. OK, and I also enjoy watching you guys catching fish when I am stuck at home and can not get out to my favorite ponds or creeks. So look on the bright side of your dilemma. Your viewership has dropped because so many have got the message, learned some of your techniques and are out there fishing at their favorite fishing hole. After all, if life gives you a lemon, make lemonade.

I think the influx of content has caused people to learn a lot, and now they are implementing the knowledge. Makes sense there is an arc of content and viewership. It's like a collective book that has been written on bass fishing. It gets written, an influx of people buy it, study from it; and then it subsides down to a lower average consumption.

Greetings Mr. Blaukat. I'm from Portugal and I've been fishing bass for a year now. I don't know how to do it properly so, I watch YT videos. Yours and Tyler Berger's (BassFishingHQ channel) are the best for me. (and also the other and younger Tyler's channel). I know you don't have more time, so, your kind of videos are more informative and I thank you for that (I learned the double Uni Knot from you). However I never really watched a video where you do actually fish bass, either from bank or boat, without any conversation. I can only fish from bank, so I could watch more footage about that from you, for example. Nevertheless, just keep doing the videos you like to do, because sooner or later, someone new to bass fishing will watch them...and from anywhere in the world too.. like me. Cheers and happy fishing days!

I’d refer you to Tactical Bassin. Matt and Tim have in my opinion the best, most informative bass fishing format on TH-cam by leaps and bounds! Take a look at one year of their videos… I’ve been subscribed to TB for 10 years and I’d be 1/2 the bass fisherman today if I hadn’t! They are both married, they both have children… shoot, Tim quit his job with California Fish and Game… they sold everything, and moved from California to Tennessee. There’s a reason that they have so many subscribers!

I run a Bait shop on the way to the Big Pond in MN. Forward facing sonar. You don't need skill, knowledge or technic when you're playing a video game. When you have 5 or 6 Rods equipped with different lures and all you do is toss that lure at the fish, if it doesn't work after 5 castes they grab a different setup. Keep changing till you piss that fish off for a strike. Just going off of the stories I hear on a daily bases. Customers don't asks what's the HOT lure for the area anymore. No need to when you have the latest tech.

I like you have been fishing all my life and I'm 72 years old and still fish almost everyday. It used to be hard years ago to get real helpful content but not anymore. There are so many u-tubers covering the same content it gets repetative. A lot of the new anglers just figure that if they use FFS that is the most efficient was with just some kind of minnow bait. I agree with you that it hurts our sport but most of the anglers feel that if they don't use it they can't compete.

Your deep dive videos are a treasure trove. An actual pro like you talking through techniques… gold mine. I’m gonna watch anything you put up like that because I’m looking for depth into the subject.
You might think about adding some other elements (breadth, you might say).
Get some of those Ozark hammers on there telling old war stories. Reach across to someone like a Jon B or One Rod to sit down and talk about their success in getting a new generation interested in bass fishing.
Think of Rogan. He can deep dive on MMA better than anyone, but he has the biggest podcast in the world because of the conversations he has.
Even if you don’t do any of that, I’m still gonna check out every deep dive video you do. The education you’re providing folks is incredible. As someone once said to a professional wrestler, “I just wanna thank you for what you do to your body.”

I understand what you’re saying. The videos I’ve seen from almost EVERY you tube fishing video is baits that you have to have stained or dirty water. I’d love to see more videos on what baits and color work in clear water, 6 foot or more visibility. I just watched a video on lipless crank baits and they said they wouldn’t fish them in clear water. I fish a 1700 acre lake that is generally clear, at least 6 foot or more visibility. That would help me out drastically. I don’t fish anything river fed, it was a town that flooded many many years ago. Also at the same time videos for when the water is low. This lake is also a towns water supply. This year has been horrible fishing. The lake has never been this clear or this low in 5 years I’ve fished it. I’ve used colors like green pumpkin, watermelon, and black. The main bites have come off a June bug worm. I can count on 1 hand how many fish over a pound I’ve caught this year. But only able to go out weekly. I also fish out the back of the boat. I’ve used ned rigs, jerk baits, crank baits, swim baits, toads, and super spook jr. Anything about this would help. I am here to learn. Good video Randy.

I consider myself a YT junkie. I watch lots of videos on both fishing and golf. I think you’re correct when you look at “over saturation” of content. It’s a difficult task but you need find new and creative material. The YT golf world has collaborations with other YT creators, and also introduces non-golfers into their space that have a social media presence. By doing so they hope to generate new interest and new subscribers.

Consider this. How many videos do you watch in a week? You spend so much time producing them, you work two jobs, etc.
Same here. There is only so much time to watch them and most days I don't. But I may watch dozens one or two days a week.
A " regular basis " does not mean daily. A couple a week is regular. One video a month about the three top lures for May or June etc is not regular and I don't even look for those. Just keep them relevant and quality. They will be watched but not necessarily within 24 hours. Remember our schedules cycle on weekly basis just as yours does.

Here is a fact. The fish are biting or not for the average fisherman. You can trim the skirt all you want, and if the fish are not biting that does not matter. There is only so much advice on stuff one can know to really make that much difference. For the average person who gets to fish a couple times a month. I enjoy my time on the water just being with my friends on the lake, and if we are catching great. Saturation of content is real ,and I know for most of us to keep it simple is the key. Enjoy the moment with friends if one catches or not.

I have been an avid fisherman for over 60 years. After retirement my wife and I moved fulltime into our lakeside home. It is on a small 900 acre lake in southern Indiana. I have fished this lake for many years, and it was always a good fishery. My best bass was 9 lb 6oz. What I have noticed the past several years is a significant decrease in the fishery. 4 lb. bass once in a while if lucky. Normal 1 to 2 pound. Seeing many dead bass especially after a tourney. Huge bass boats filled with all kinds of electronics screaming all over with no respect for others fishing and ignoring the speed limit. Act like you are infringing on THEIR lake. I am at the point of selling our lake home, boat and equipment to get away from this mess. No joy in bass fishing anymore.
PS. I will still keep trout fishing at the many spring creeks in Missouri. My favorite is Bennett Spring State Park.

Opinion. I live on the California Delta. The time I spend on YT are from California Delta and Lake TH-camrs. That’s pretty much it. They fish where I fish and their techniques are developed here in the waters I fish. Not a knock on any other content creators, but I do not need to watch a guy deep water fishing in the Great Lakes or river techniques on the Lawrence River. My time is valuable and I need useful info on the water I fish. Hope I don’t sound like a a@&hole, but it’s really a regional thing.

This day and age people seem to, unfortunately, gravitate toward piling on and taking in the drama. I started watching every afternoon during the pandemic. Became part of my virtual working day routine. The one difference between the channel and others is there isn’t as much on the water video. I don’t know if that converts to more viewers or not, but it is one difference compared to other channels.

Randy, I'm a longtime steady viewer, fan, and lover of the sport. I appreciate your knowledge and sincerity. Here's my suggestion: You are the leader of anti-FFS in the community. You have history, hacks, opinions, etc that can only be matched by the legends and guys like Parker, Clunn, Nixon. If you want to preserve the past and future, move your show in that direction.
Give others exposure to weigh in on FFS by having split screen interviews. Get tournament stories, memories, and tips on fishing and life from other fisherman, in the sport and outside that love fishing. Let your sponsor reps plug their stuff on your program. You appear to be a humble man. So, exalt others...and in doing so it will be you and your channel that gets exalted!
I would love to see you debate a Garmin rep on FFS. Or have a memory debate with old timers. Or a casting competition against youth fisherman or old timers...not named Shag Shahid.
Jon Gruden just launched his channel and he's bringing back players he's coached or has a great relationship with. And they talk shop, motivation, and I think it could be you. You just have to be you.
I check out all the fishing channels. The one thing that Randy Blaukat is known for...is leading the charge against FFS. That means your voice is known and accepted as the expert on "that" side. We're a Fox vs CNN point/counterpoint culture now. Do everything to promote that conversation. Maybe do a local Brigeford sponsored Blaukat's Back to Basics 1 day challenge that's a no tech, throwback fishing tourney. John boats, canoes, kayaks, any boat that floats...from real people...have a camera crew and get interviews from real participants. Im certain your local Missouri connections or BPS can pitch in to help. Maybe a $50 dollar entry. Do a clinic for kids. Bring Jay Yelas' cast for kids into it where veterans, those with disabilities, or kids can see how much YOU mean to the sport.
Randy, you are a brand. I know you care deeply about the future of the sport...but we all do. We just pick sides on certain things. You picked yours...my suggestion is to lead it!

Randy...your informational videos are educational but to make them really interesting you do need to add more visual content. To make the channel more successful, a commitment to mixing in some actual fishing content illustrating the techniques you highlight would go a long ways. Educating in a more visually interesting way will draw more interest. You have said doing that is challenging given your current life obligations. YT is like any other business it takes sacrifices to grow the rewards. If you can't make them it is perfectly understandable but I also think you have to accept your current result.

I don't have really a TH-cam channel so I could be wrong about what I'm saying I don't know how it all works on TH-cam. However that being said I have often suspected that TH-cams search engine or algorithm or whatever is used to bring videos up so that the most likely people that would be interested in that content would receive it is maybe limited, restricted, or controlled in some way. I have noticed on the internet for example when I first started searching stuff years ago so many titles pertaining to what I was searching for would pop up I had an extremely large variety of things to click on that were all related to what I searched. The search results seem to be less and less extensive as the years have gone on in my observation anyway and I wonder if the same sort of thing is happening on TH-cam I've heard that there are people that specialize in making your TH-cam or Internet content more present to likely viewers for your type of content. Not knowing what that would entail I wonder if something like this could affect your views on TH-cam. If I'm making any sense I'm grasping at straws because I really don't know how everything works but it seems to me things have changed in general on the internet over the years and I wonder what is causing you to have less views on certain videos. It's almost like the internet is restricting viewers from seeing certain content that may even be something that would be a perfect match for them. Just my two cents.

First let me say that I enjoy your videos very much. I’m retired and have only been bass fishing for about 18 months. Your channel has helped me a great deal.
It became apparent to me pretty early on that many of the bass channels are just infomercials of lure manufacturers and although they contain some good information, I’ve stopped watching most of the because I don’t believe I can trust their information. I tend to stick with channels that discuss a variety of lures/manufactures. I also like channels where techniques are demonstrated but I won’t typically watch someone else fish.
Thank you for some truly great content.

The biggest thing in my opinion, as a creator, is how and who the TH-cam Algorithms push videos to. If in 24 hours the video doesn't get the engagement that captures people, the algorithms aren't going to push that content out.
I also think covid boosted viewership.
You have to play the TH-cam Game to get exposure..... Shorts, SEO, Entertainment, Information, the Thumbnail you use for videos, ......
For me, as a smaller channel for now and like you said, its a lot of work to constantly do that, especially when you are not getting any incentive to keep going when your videos do not do great.

To be hpnest iam a newer you tuber and its been hard i film outdoor content and i cant break 20 views. It several thinhs. 1 foward faceing sonar people are tired of tuning in and watchong guys just look at a screen. 2 its you tube on general. Evey since they interduce shorts it like people just want a 30 to 60 sec clip of a big bass. Same in the hunting world they just want the kill shot and not what lead up it. Also not being able to skip the dam adds. I dont think that people dont want to learn. I just think people dont want to watch a 20 to 30 minuite video of guys standing in a boat. People want emotion. Thats why if you watch some of the younger guys like lfg. He does a 5 or 10 minute opening form his house or patking lot of the lake. Then he starts fishing. Hes also explaning while he fishes. I really enjoy your content JMPoutdoors.
