I have dreamt of doing this to my 07 Speed3 for 9 years now. Life just hasn't lined up right yet. This is the most satisfying video I have seen. Beautiful car and a beautifully made video much love great job wish I could drive it! :)
Glad you went back to your roots. Tb to the early days the first episode I ever saw was you talking about an egr delete and mod list for ur gen2 when it dropped. Glad to see your channel grow
It's actually more like double the hp of the 2.3S. The 2.3S puts down about 130whp, while the mazdaspeed3 puts down about 260whp. Mazdaspeed3 is underrated from the factory like the CTR is. Another interesting fact, the wheels were pig heavy and the factory intake box was a poor design. If you bought the optional dealer intake and bought better/lighter wheels and tires, you had 290whp, which puts the 1st gen Mazdaspeed3 at equal power and weight as the CTR. Watch this video, where that exact setup destroys the Elantra N: th-cam.com/video/ZTfezaecqhw/w-d-xo.html CTR territory for sure.

Good to see they did hpfp. Disappointed with all the Cobb stuff other than the ap other company’s have better products for the speeds. Definitely didn’t think of them at all during my build
5:28 Huge bottle neck right there. The cat back may be 3" but it bottlenecks down to 2.5" at the stock flange on the stock downpipe. Same thing goes for the aftermarket downpipe. No 3" turbo back exhaust is a true 3" turbo back exhaust unless you cut off both sides of the aftermarket parts from the flange to the bottleneck. Otherwise, you have no power gain. Enjoy the power loss, or do it right.
@@XR-qs7mq I normally rag on poorly built mazdaspeed3s, which is 99% of mazdaspeed3s out there. To only have one issue with this build, is pretty impressive. Ok, I should have started with that. 13:53 "definition of rice burner" comes from the sound that turbocharged Japanese cars make from the whoosh sound that come out of the turbo that resembles the sound that a rice cooker makes when you open it. So, literally the definition of rice is the sound of a mazdaspeed3, not a loud sound that a poor quality exhaust makes, which they are implying. Unfortunately, the jokes on them.
Given the placement of the intercooler, I'm surprised that there is no hood scoop. Anyway, I really enjoy the video. I`m very pleased with the final result.
What brand CV shaft was installed on this build? I’ve got an 07 Mazda Speed 6 that I bought brand new in 07. I am working on fixing things here and there as I want to get it back to near new condition and modify it some as I go along. I wish I knew about engines. I’m learning as I go along. Great vid! 👍 👍. Just recently purchased a 06 Mazda 3 2.3 hatch back s5 automatic. Its not a turbo but i would like to get the maximum power ot if it naturally aspirated. Ive tried searching for performance packages or stages, no luck. Its a daily driver and I want any where from 180 to 200 at the fly wheel. Any more and it would spend more gas then what it should. Have any ideas? Thanks!
I’ve been looking at a first gen speed3. But I’ve heard a lot of mixed things about the car I’ve been looking for a fun daily but nothing too crazy so mainly stock some performance mods. I just want to know if the bad rap they get like blowing up, blowing coolant lines, and etc. if they’re true or due to poor owners and modifications done wrong
I have a 2008 MS3, purchased brand new in 2007. It’s been my daily driver and just hit 280K miles. VERY reliable car. It’s needed some things replaced but only within the past few years: clutch, compressor, struts. I also just put some work into it to replace cracked engine mounts, etc. I do want to get some hp added soon just for kicks even though it’s hella fun as-is. Completely agree with Erica. I bought my 1st gen mazdaspeed3 in 2011. Still own it, and have about the same amount of miles. Most reliable car I've ever owned (I've owned toyotas, honda/acuras, mazdas). Stay on top of the carbon clean (aka seafoam cleaning) as all new cars with direct injection require, and you will NEVER have the issues that people talk about having with direct injection cars. Those issues you heard/read about do not only apply to mazdaspeed3s, it applies to all direct injection cars ==>Carbon build up, study it, seafoam clean at every oil change, and you will love any turbo car that is direct injection, especially the mazdaspeed3. Only issue I had with my mazdaspeed3 is the AC compressor clutch went out prematurely at 100k miles. It was expensive at the time... but now its just a $30 part on ebay and 2hr replacement. I did it a 2nd time recently. Other than that, I've just done oil changes, belt, tires, brake pads, struts, motor mounts, clutch. All regular maintenance. Original turbo, original timing chain, original high pressure fuel pump (which are damaged from carbon buildup, but not mine).
@@copperkeyracing6167 I only put 93 in it because that makes a huge difference in performance; it’s the recommended octane. @@ermagerdmuffins I also only use 93octane premium fuel. In some parts of the country, premium octane is 91(california), or even just 90. Sadly, many people/women drive an automatic with two feet, and that's probably what your mechanic is talking about, and why pads are worn badly with what he calls "women" driving.
