The foothills of the Cascades are only a few miles east of my place and the green countryside is spectacular. Food is great and having a diverse population makes life in Washington state even better. Correction: The largest fault isn’t under the Cascades, it’s under the ocean, about 100 miles off the coast. It’s the CSZ, or the Cascadia Subduction Zone. It’s a mega thrust fault that will produce a 9.0 or greater earthquake. The most active volcano isn’t Rainier, it’s Mt. St. Helens.

Spokane is actually quite beautiful. With its lilac parade and countless dog friendly areas, Riverfront Park, and Mt Spokane, which is a great place for beginners to learn how to ski and hike. No earthquakes, significantly less rain, but we do get beautiful snow.

State Sales tax is 6.5% not 10%. Cities and Counties can add additional amounts to that. Most locations have a rate of 8% or higher but surprisingly Seattle doesn't have the highest rate. That crown goes to the towns of Lynnwood, Mill Creek, and Mukilteo with a rate of 10.5%

      Them: Where do you live?
      Me: Washington.
      Them: Nice DC/Oh DC.

I was born here in Spokane. I grew up in New Mexico and California before our family moved back to Washington state. I love living here on the east side where we have rivers, mountains, scrubland, forests so thick that you can only see in a short distance, rolling hills of wheat, the Palouse Falls, the city of Republic where you can dig for fossils, the Columbia River, Spokane that has two rivers running through it and a city park in every neighborhood. We love the east side!

Close to the Puget Sound anda beautiful area to explore, now that I have left it is almost unrecognizable with homeless. Trash. And too many people. Traffic and crazy folks :( I certainly miss the area I grew up in but will not live there again. Makes my heart sad that it has changed so much and not for the better! What part of Yakima do you live in? People always talk about the crime and the gangs here. My boys went to public school. We are definitely not rich. Our neighborhood is blue collar. From my experience Yakima is a great little city to live.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "mean spirited" but they definitely are not warm. Somebody said it's the "transplants" who are usually the ones giving off the "Seattle Freeze" vibes, which maybe it is, but I'm from the South and am a transplant and am friendly and speak and make eye contact, I only stopped doing so because when I got here, NO ONE else did lol. So I'm sure lots of people from here as well have that same unfriendly, uninviting vibe. It really sucks because it is truly the most beautiful place that I have lived, but the people are like socially remedial. Also, I can tell it's a native Seattle thing as well, because at work I always know which of my crew members are native to Washington, because they are the most passive agressive ones, lol. That's the west coast all day, passive aggressive through and through. Funny enough the most friendly people I've met here, have been other transplants, from the South. However; I will say I recently spent some time in West Seattle and people were much more nice and actually spoke to you there. So maybe I just haven't found a good location yet.

I did two miserable years in Snohomish... dear god....awful. There is nothing convenient about running errands there... and the traffic is shite. And it's expensive and the people are fake fake fake in the big cities... The locals in smaller cities like north or south of Seattle are cranky and don't like "foreigners" There is a thing called the Seattle Freeze... and it's a real deal. Very hard to make friends there... not that you'd really want to know most of them. Honestly I was really disappointed. It's a shame most people aren't as beautiful as the nature.
